THE DIGITAL ORGANIZATION AND THE ENTERPRISE NETWORK
The promise of digital for your business is all about innovating faster while reducing risk, cost,
and complexity. Your network forms the foundation of your business’ transformation to a Digital
Organization.
Supporting your Digital Organization will require your network to move beyond just connectivity to
be a platform for insights, automation, and security. This is the power of the Cisco® Digital
Network Architecture (Cisco DNA™), offered by Advanced Integrated Systems.
And you must do it at scale. Network traffic continues to grow exponentially. It’s growing because
of the digitization of how we work, play, and learn. It’s accelerating because we want more and
more, faster and faster.
By 2021, the number of networked devices could be over 27 billion, up nearly 60 percent from
2016. In addition, by 2021, IP traffic should exceed 278 Exabytes per month. And average fixed
broadband speeds will nearly double to 53 Mb/s.1
What this means is that your network will be asked to handle twice the devices with twice the
traffic at twice the speed.
-1-
Faster Innovation
The Digital Organization’s promise is that you can increase connection and collaboration with
your customers and peers. This creates the positive outcomes of improved workflow
personalization, improved work/life balance, and happier customers and employees.
But understanding behavior, performance, and threats—in real time—is key to your agile Digital
Organization.
Using analytics to provide deep user and traffic insights can help you take action to optimize your
network. This improves security, connectivity, mobility, QoS, and application performance,
regardless of your users’ location or device.

Regulation (EGDPR) and the Affordable Care Act (ACA). Increased security for wired and wireless
users also provides improved control of your network and connected devices.
The proposed Catalyst fixed-configuration switches are well suited to meet today’s network
needs. They offer:
Single-vendor solution: Advanced Integrated Systems offers bundles of Cisco products and
systems together with Cisco’s extensive portfolio of professional services and financing to
create a complete offer for you.
Implementation services: Deployment scenarios are matched to specific market segments in
the form of architectural implementations. For example, the Cisco Smart Business
Architecture (SBA) for midsize networks is an architectural implementation of the enterprise
network architecture for the midmarket segment. Architectural implementations include
detailed technical approaches in addition to more general guidelines for the segment. They
-3-
may span multiple Cisco architectures. For example, SBA spans Enterprise Networks,
Collaboration, and DC/Virtualization architectures.
Provide BYOD/mobility Manage mobile device surge: The average user now has more devices due to
BYOD and mobility. Internet of Things (IoT) devices, such as sensors and
closed-circuit televisions (CCTVs), are also connecting to the network. Higher
performing switches, such as Catalyst 9300 Series switches and Catalyst 9500
Series switches, and higher performing access points (APs), such as Cisco
Aironet™ 4800/3700/3600/2600/1600, can help you sustainably handle the
exponential growth of devices and applications.
Address traffic growth from emergence of 802.11ax and 802.11ac (IEEE
802.3bz (2.5G/5G BASE-T) multigigabit wireless): As new 802.11ax and
802.11ac Wave 2 wireless technology is deployed, it is important to offload
expanding data volumes at increasingly higher speeds from the wireless to the
wired network.
Going beyond 1 Gb/s with existing Cat5e and Cat6 cables was little more than
a talking point two years ago. Now mGig delivers the ability to extend the life of
an enormous asset—the wired network. The Cat5e and Cat6 installed in just
the last 15 years now exceeds an estimated 70 billion meters of cabling.
Costly. Painful. Sometimes impossible.
For some, a re-cabling isn’t even possible. For others, unfeasible. For the rest,
re-cabling is too costly and disruptive. It’s easy to imagine the value of
delivering multi-gigabit speeds to the more than 1.3 billion Cat5e/6 outlets
worldwide if it doesn’t require the huge headache and expense of a major
cable replacement. The promise of NBASE-T technology has to have nearly
every CFO, CTO, building manager, and IT group breathing a huge sigh of relief.
Solving the Problem – upgrade a switch.
Taking lessons learned from a now mature 10GBASE-T technology, NBASE-T
uses a type of signaling that boosts data throughput over twisted-pair copper
cable and moves beyond previous limitations (up to 100 meters of Cat5e/6).
By upgrading the networking equipment, you can dramatically boost your
enterprise network performance.
Enable pervasive mobility: Newer APs have Cisco RF excellence features, such
as Cisco CleanAir® technology for RF interference management and Cisco
ClientLink, for improved coverage and performance of both 802.11ac/n clients
as well as older 802.11a/b/g clients. Catalyst 9300 and 9500 Series switches
support PoE (15W) and PoE+ (30W) for powering the wireless APs over
Ethernet cables. Catalyst 9300 Series switches also support 60W PoE per port

Desired Business Outcome How We Can Make It Happen
with Cisco Universal Power Over Ethernet (Cisco UPOE®) for powering more
endpoints.
Simplify with converged access: Catalyst 3650 and 3850 Series switches have
have an integrated wireless controller that provides a single platform for your
wired and wireless networks. This helps resolve inconsistencies between wired
and wireless infrastructures in order to deliver operational simplicity, business
agility, and a better user experience.
Increase security Define, deploy, and enforce context-based security policies for differentiated
access through integration of Catalyst 9300 and 9500 Series switches with
Cisco Identity Services Engine (ISE): Context is multi-dimensional: who (type of
user), what (device and application), when (time-of-day), where (location), and
how (network type).
Use your network as a sensor for making more informed business decisions:
Catalyst 9300 and 9500 Series switches provide application visibility and
control through Cisco IOS® Flexible NetFlow (FNF). When combined with Cisco
Prime® technology or third-party applications, Cisco IOS FNF can detect and
protect against network abuse.
Simplify security deployment: Transition from device-based security to role-
based security, deploy one policy across wired, wireless, and remote access
with ISE, and more. This is made possible by Catalyst switches with advanced
security features such as Cisco TrustSec® Secure Group Tags, device sensors,
and Cisco IOS FNF.
Simplify IT management Reduce complexity by converging wired and wireless into a single platform:
Catalyst 3650 and 3850 Series switches have integrated wireless controllers.
This helps reduce the number of discrete devices in the network and drive
consistency between wired and wireless networks for simplified management.
Anticipate future innovation: Catalyst 9300 and 9500 Series switches are
future-proofed for software-defined access (SD-Access). With license
portability, you can better prepare for upcoming network advances while
retaining more value from your overall solution.
Simplify on-boarding: Cisco DNA technology enables self-service device on-
boarding and a single policy source for devices across wired, wireless, and
remote networks.
Simplify policy enforcement: Cisco TrustSec Secure Group Tags provide a
simple and consistent way to enforce context-aware policies throughout the
network.
Simplify access switch management: Cisco Catalyst SmartOperations
automates software image downloads, configuration backups, and port
configuration based on connected devices and more.
Simplify programming the network: Cisco Application Centric Infrastructure
(Cisco ACI™) lays the foundation for making the network programmable for
agility and simplicity.

Desired Business Outcome How We Can Make It Happen
Reduce costs Increase energy savings: Extend energy management capabilities throughout
your corporation with the Cisco Energy Management Suite portfolio. It gives you
broader control over power usage, which helps reduce energy costs.
Reduce operating costs: In addition to adaptive, always-on technologies, such
as the Cisco StackWise® and Cisco StackPower® solutions, Cisco Catalyst
SmartOperations helps enable zero-touch installation and replacement of
switches, fast upgrades, as well as ease of troubleshooting for reduced OpEx.
Extend your network’s value: Get more from your current and future switches.
mGig-enabled switching also dramatically improves the performance of your
Cat5e/Cat6 physical assets, increasing speeds up to 5 Gb/s and delaying the
cost and disruption of a cabling upgrade.
