1.0. PHILOSOPHY

Literature 101 covers Philippine writings in different regions. These regional writings
extend modern and old time stories of the past that were given value as an identity of
their own culture in that region; and so, it is needed to be appreciated by students
whose culture in a way or another different to each other because of intercultural
values.

Literature inhibits reading ability of students in English, in Filipino and in vernacular


most specifically in Philippine writings. The writings in different regions were given
emphasis to be read and discussed.

This course would like to encourage young students in writing stories, poems,
and narratives during classroom lectures, activities and test.

2.0. AUDIENCE

This course is intended for second year students who have gone through English
communication classes.

Learning is facilitated through Teaching using slide presentation and Lecture-


discussion, Take-home Assignments and Writing Activities.

Major examinations, quizzes, assignments, and writing outputs are 60% passing
(P= Score/Total number of Items x 62.5+37.5).

Attendance

Attendance will be checked regularly. A student with more than 6 absences will
be dropped from the subject. Three occurrences of tardiness are equivalent to 1
absence. A student arriving in class after the first 15 minutes is considered
absent.

Missed Exams

Make-up examination will be conducted provided that an admission slip from the
Guidance Office is presented to the instructor.

Class Participation

Students are encouraged to participate actively during classroom discussion to


develop confidence and test retention.

Academic Dishonesty

Cases of academic dishonesty will be given a grade of 0 for the examination /


activity.(Refer to the Students’ Norms of Conduct)

Dropping

Official dropping may only be done before midterm examination. If the absences
are incurred after midterms, the student will be given a grade of 5.
