OWNER: POWER GRID COMPANY OF BANGLADESH LIMITED
PROJECT: Western Grid Network Development Project (Improvement of Power Transmission in Western Zone)
Lot4: Design, Supply, Installation, Testing & Commissioning of 230/132kV and 132/33kV Substations, Western Zone, on Turnkey
Basis
VT REQUIREMENTS:
Requirement 1:
The burden shall be between 0% and 100% of the rated burden.
Requirement 2:
The voltage drop along the secondary wiring shall not be higher that 0.5% for metering windings and
2.5% for protection windings according to good engineering practice.
CHECK OF VT REQUIREMENTS:
Sn = 75 VA Meets requirement
Requirement 2
Voltage drop along the wiring can be calculated:
U wire R √I R
Χu ' < √ 100 % < wire √ 100% < wire √ 100%
Un Un Rb '
Χu ' ′ Χu max
Χu ' = 0.172 %
Χu max = 2.5 % Meets requirement
Requirement 3 (not mandatory)
The total connected burden shall be between 25% and 100% of VT rated burden:
0.25S n ′ S ' ′ S n
:
25% Sn = 18.75 VA
S' = 2 VA
Sn = 75 VA Doesn't meet requirement
According to the IEC 61869-3 the accuracy class of the VT is guaranteed only when the actual burden
of the VT has:
any value from 0VA to 100% of the rated burden (for the burden range I VTs), or
any value between 25% and 100% of the rated burden (for the burden range II VTs).
Remark 1: This requirement can be especially important (mandatory) when using VT winding for tariff
metering or when high accuracy metering is necessary.
Remark 2: Even for the burden range II VTs an extended range of burden can be specified in
agreement with the manufacturer, e.g. 0VA to 20VA or 0VA to 50VA. Then, the accuracy class is
maintained within this range.
