Ready, Set, Train!

GLOSSARY

Administrative (adj.)- related to leading and running an organization


Appropriate (adj.)- something that matches the situation or level of difficulty
Assessment (n.)- a way to see how much someone has learned
Authority figure (n.)- a person that is respected for their work or knowledge; a teacher that leads a class
where all learning comes from the teacher and students do not have a choice in how the lesson is taught

Case study (n.)- a study of one person or group that looks at many details or a long period of time
Characteristic (n.)- the qualities of a person, place, or thing
Classroom Management (n.)- the skills a teacher uses to keep students focused
Community of practice (n.)- a group of people who have a shared interest of profession
Conduct (v.)- to do something in a certain way; conduct (n.)- how someone presents himself/ herself
Content (n.)- the details within something
Context (n.)- the situation or environment

Dominate (v.)- to control

Evaluate (v.)- to study how well something is done, or how well goals are reached

Facilitator (n.)- a teacher whose role is to encourage students to be more active in their own learning
Feedback (n.) - comments about how well something was done and how to improve it
Flexibility (n.)- the ability to change to a new situation
Formative assessment (n.)- a way to see how much students learn in the moment or as the lessons
happen, not at the end of the unit

Handout (n.)- a printed paper with information or practice exercises

Impact (v.)- to affect; impact (n.)- the effects of an action


Implement (v.)- to put into action
Investigate (v.)- to find information about a topic

Mind map (n.)- a picture that organizes ideas and shows the relationship between them
Modeling (n.)- a way of teaching where the teacher does something and the students copy the teacher’s
action
Motivation (n.)- the thoughts, attitudes, and goals that make someone want to do something

Needs analysis (n.)- a way to find and study the needs of a group of people

Objectives (n.)- statements of what students or participants should learn in a lesson


Observe (v.)- to watch something; for example, an ‘observation’ is what someone sees
Outcome (n.)- the effects of an action

Participant (n.)- a person that does an activity


Participation (n.)- to take part in an activity
Peer (n.)- a person who is similar to another because of their age or job
Persuasive (adj.)- able to make others believe something, or do something
Present (v.)- To talk about a topic in front of a group of people; presentation (n.) the act of talking about
a topic in front of a group of people
Prioritize (v.)- to place goals or activities in order of importance

Random sampling (n.)- a fair way to choose participants where the participants are not known and they
are chosen by chance
Reflect (v.)- to think carefully about a topic after it happens; reflection (n.)- a written reply to a topic
Resource (n.)- in writing, a published work that is used to support an idea with facts; in practical
applications, a material used by people to do other things
Rubric (n.)- a document that explains what a student must do to earn each grade

Skillset (n.)- things a person can do well, the skills a person has
Specific (adj.)- a certain thing; something that can be named
Strategies (n.)- ways to do something
Stakeholders (n.)- people who support an organization and care about its results
Student-centered (adj.)- a way of teaching that includes the students’ personal goals in the lesson and
gives students more responsibility for their own learning
Summarize (v.)- to repeat the main details of a longer work without changing the meaning; summary
(n.)- a shorter writing that repeats the main ideas of a longer work without changing the meaning
Summative assessment (n.)- a way to see how much students have learned at the end of a unit; it is
usually a test
Sustain (v.)- to keep or maintain something

Template (n.)- a guide that other things are based on


Theory (n.)- an explanation of how something works, supported by facts and observations
Trainer (n.)- a person who teaches others how to do an activity well
Trainee (n.)- a person who is taught by a trainer
Training (n.)- an activity, meeting, or class where people learn to improve a skill; a workshop
Transform (v.)- to change

Word web (n.)- a diagram of a word that shows its meanings and words that are similar
Workshop (n.)- an activity, meeting, or class where people learn to improve a skill; a training
Worthwhile (adj.)- something that deserves the effort needed to do it
