LIVING ROSARY

October 31, 2018

Commentator:

Good afternoon brothers and sisters. Welcome to our celebration of the

Living Rosary. We are now in the month of October. October is the month
when Catholics honor Mary the mother of Jesus and our mother, in a
special way. And so, we turn to Mary today by praying the Rosary, knowing
that she listens to all her children’s prayers.

When we were baptized, we became one with Jesus, Son of God and Son
of Mary. With Jesus, we look to Mary as our Mother, and God as our
Father. We ask Mary to teach us and help us by her prayers to live as
God’s children.

As we pray the Rosary today, we greet Mary our Mother with the words of
the angel Gabriel saying “Hail Mary…” As Mary’s sons and daughters, we
ask her to pray for us “now, and at the hour of our death,” that we might
be good followers of Jesus, and share in his gift of eternal life.

OPENING BLESSING

Priest: In the name of the Father, and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.

All: Amen.

Priest: The Lord be with you.

All: And with your Spirit.

Priest: Today, we are gather as one community of believers to praise God, through
Mary, our Our Lady of the Holy Rosary. As one parish, under the maternal
care and guidance of Mary, let us lift up our prayers to Him.

Let us pray.

Almighty God, who looked upon the lowliness of the Blessed Virgin Mary
and chose her to be the mother of your only Son: grant that we who are
redeemed by his blood may share with her in the glory of your eternal
kingdom; through Jesus Christ your Son our Lord, who is alive and reigns
with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever.

All: Amen.

Leader: We unite with all the saints in heaven and with all the just on earth; we
unite with you, our Jesus, to praise your holy Mother worthily and to
praise you in her and by her. We renounce all the distractions that may
come to us while I am saying this Rosary.

O Lord, we offer you this creed to honour the faith you had upon earth and
to ask you to permit us to share in that same faith. O Lord, we offer you
this Our Father to adore you in your oneness and to acknowledge you as
the first cause and the last end of all things. Most Holy Trinity, we offer
you these three Hail Marys to thank you for all the graces which you have
given to Mary and which you have given to us through her intercession.

Let us now recite, the “I Believe”.

GLORY BE

Leader: We now meditate on the GLORIOUS MYSTERIES.

Our Lord Jesus Christ, on the third day after his passion and death, rose
again in glory, victorious over death and never to die again.

The First Glorious Mystery - THE RESURRECTION

Priest: After the Sabbath, and towards dawn on the first day of the week, Mary of
Magdala and the other Mary went to visit the sepulchre. And suddenly
there was a violent earthquake, for an angel of the Lord, descending from
heaven, came and rolled away the stone and sat on it. His face was like
lightning, his robe white as snow. The guards were so shaken by fear of
him that they were like dead men. But the angel spoke; and he said to the
women, 'There is no need for you to be afraid. I know you are looking for
Jesus, who was crucified. He is not here, for he has risen, as he said he
would. Come and see the place where he lay, then go quickly and tell his
disciples, "He has risen from the dead and now he is going ahead of you to
Galilee; that is where you will see him." Look! I have told you.' (Mt 28:1-7)

Offering: We offer you, Lord Jesus, this decade in honour of your triumphant
Resurrection. Through this mystery and through the intercession of your
holy Mother we ask for a lively faith. May the grace of the Resurrection
come into us and make us truly faithful.

SONG

Leader: Our Lord Jesus Christ, forty days after his Resurrection, ascended into
heaven with triumph and great glory, in the sight of his most holy mother
and all his disciples.

The Second Glorious Mystery – THE ASCENSION

Priest: As he said this he was lifted up while they looked on, and a cloud took him
from their sight. They were still staring into the sky as he went when
suddenly two men in white were standing beside them and they said, 'Why
are you Galileans standing here looking into the sky? This Jesus who has
been taken up from you into heaven will come back in the same way as
you have seen him go to heaven.' (Acts 1:9-11)

Offering: Do I use Jesus’s ascension into heaven to strengthen my faith and hope
each day? Do I allow the Holy Spirit to come to me to guide and direct my
life?

We pray that we find faith and hope in Christ’s ascension so we too might
follow Him to the Father. We offer you, Lord Jesus, this decade in honour
of your glorious Ascension. Through this mystery and the intercession of
your holy Mother we ask for a firm hope and a great longing for heaven.
May the grace of the mystery of the Ascension of the Lord come into us
and prepare us for heaven.

Our Father...

O Holy Mary, hear the cries of those who mourn the dead...
Hail Mary, full of grace…

O Holy Mary, with a mother's care look gently on parents who bury their children...
Hail Mary, full of grace…

O Holy Mary, cradle the lives of those addicted or imprisoned...

Hail Mary, full of grace…

O Holy Mary, intercede for those who seek to live the Gospel of Life...
Hail Mary, full of grace…

O Holy Mary, remember those who have left home...

Hail Mary, full of grace…

O Holy Mary, look with love on young mothers who are afraid...
Hail Mary, full of grace…

O Holy Mary, hear the prayers of those who seek to make our country just...
Hail Mary, full of grace…

O Holy Mary, stand by those who fear their growing old...

Hail Mary, full of grace…

O Holy Mary, lead the children who are lost home to those who love them...

is now, and will be for ever. Amen.

O my Jesus, forgive us our sins, save us from the fires of hell, and lead all souls to
heaven, especially those in most need of your mercy.

SONG

Leader: Our Lord Jesus Christ, sitting at the right hand of the Father, sent the
Holy Spirit into the upper chamber where the apostles were gathered
together, with the most Holy Virgin Mary.

The Third Glorious Mystery – THE DESCENT OF THE HOLY SPIRIT

Priest: When the time for Pentecost was fulfilled, they were all in one place
together. And suddenly there came from the sky a noise like a strong
driving wind, and it filled the entire house in which they were. Then there
appeared to them tongues as of fire, which parted and came to rest on
each one of them. And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began
to speak in different tongues, as the Spirit enabled them to proclaim. Now
there were devout Jews from every nation under heaven staying in
Jerusalem. At this sound, they gathered in a large crowd, but they were
confused because each one heard them speaking in his own language.
They were astounded, and in amazement they asked, "Are not all these
people who are speaking Galileans? Then how does each of us hear them
in his own native language? We are Parthians, Medes, and Elamites,
inhabitants of Mesopotamia, Judea and Cappadocia, Pontus and Asia,
Phrygia and Pamphylia, Egypt and the districts of Libya near Cyrene, as
well as travelers from Rome, both Jews and converts to Judaism, Cretans
and Arabs, yet we hear them speaking in our own tongues of the mighty
acts of God. (Acts 2:1-11)

Offering: Do I accept the Holy Spirit into my life to give me strength and wisdom to
live and die as Christ did? Do I listen and follow the Holy Spirit’s
instructions?

We pray that we accept the Holy Spirit into our heart and into our lives.
We pray that we follow His direction to become an instrument of God in
this world.

We offer you, Lord Jesus, this decade in honour of the mystery of Pentecost
in which the Holy Spirit descended in power on the apostles. Through this
mystery and the intercession of Mary, your most holy spouse, we ask for
your holy wisdom that we may know, taste and practice your truth and
share it with everyone. May the grace of Pentecost come into us and make
us truly wise in the eyes of God.

Our Father...

O Holy Mary, hear the cries of those who accept the call to fatherhood...
Hail Mary, full of grace…

O Holy Mary, with a mother's care guide all young women in love and in the truth...
Hail Mary, full of grace…

O Holy Mary, cradle the bodies of those who are dying in pain...
Hail Mary, full of grace…

O Holy Mary, intercede for those who seek to be good parents...

Hail Mary, full of grace…

O Holy Mary, remember the children of those who are dying...

Hail Mary, full of grace…

O Holy Mary, hear the cry of those whom we have forgotten...

Hail Mary, full of grace…

O Holy Mary, pray for all doctors that they may embrace a spirit of life...
Hail Mary, full of grace…

4|Page
O Holy Mary, stand by those who are in despair...
Hail Mary, full of grace…

O Holy Mary, guide those tempted by sin and death...

Hail Mary, full of grace…

O Holy Mary, inspire all women by your example of faith...

Hail Mary, full of grace…

Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit:
as it was in the beginning, is now, and will be for ever. Amen.

O my Jesus, forgive us our sins, save us from the fires of hell, and lead all souls to
heaven, especially those in most need of your mercy.

SONG

Leader: The Most Holy Virgin, twelve years after the Resurrection of Our Lord
Jesus Christ, passed from this life, and was assumed by the angels into
heaven.

The Fourth Glorious Mystery – THE ASSUMPTION OF THE BLESSED

VIRGIN MARY

Priest: Christ has been raised from the dead, the first fruits of those who have
fallen asleep. For since death came through a human being, the
resurrection of the dead came also through a human being. For just as in
Adam all die, so too in Christ shall all be brought to life, but each one in
proper order: Christ the first fruits; then, at his coming, those who belong
to Christ; then comes the end, when he hands over the kingdom to his
God and Father, when he has destroyed every sovereignty and every
authority and power. For he must reign until he has put all his enemies
under his feet. The last enemy to be destroyed is death. (1 Cor 15:20-26)

Offering: Do I try to follow Mary’s example by saying yes when I am called upon to
do God’s will? Is my faith and hope strengthened by Mary’s assumption,
body and soul, into heaven?

We pray that we may be given strength and grace each day so that we are
prepared to say yes when we are called to do the will of God.

We offer you, Lord Jesus, this decade in honor of the assumption of your
holy Mother into heaven body and soul. Through this mystery and her
intercession we ask for the gift of true devotion to her in order to live a
good life and have a happy death. May the grace of the Assumption of Mary
come into us and make us truly devoted to her.

Our Father...

O Holy Mary, hear the cries of the mother whose child has been aborted...
Hail Mary, full of grace…

O Holy Mary, with a mother's care strengthen those who have grown weak with age...
Hail Mary, full of grace…

O Holy Mary, cradle the children who have died through our neglect...
Hail Mary, full of grace…

O Holy Mary, intercede for those abused or forgotten...

Hail Mary, full of grace…

O Holy Mary, remember those imprisoned by selfishness or sin...

Hail Mary, full of grace…

5|Page
O Holy Mary, look with love on those who long for heaven...
Hail Mary, full of grace…

O Holy Mary, hear the prayers of doctors who seek to heal...

Hail Mary, full of grace…

O Holy Mary, stand by those who work to save the weakest and littlest among us...
Hail Mary, full of grace…

O Holy, Mary, intercede for all who love life and work to protect it...
Hail Mary, full of grace…

O Holy Mary, Teach us by your life to embrace Christ your son...

SONG

Leader: The Most Holy Virgin was crowned in heaven by her divine Son as the
saints rejoiced in glory around her throne.

The Fifth Glorious Mystery – THE CORONATION OF MARY AS QUEEN

OF HEAVEN AND EARTH.

Priest: A great sign appeared in the sky, a woman clothed with the sun, with the
moon under her feet, and on her head a crown of twelve stars. She was
with child and wailed aloud in pain as she labored to give birth. Then
another sign appeared in the sky; it was a huge red dragon, 4 with seven
heads and ten horns, and on its heads were seven diadems. Its tail swept
away a third of the stars in the sky and hurled them down to the earth.
Then the dragon stood before the woman about to give birth, to devour her
child when she gave birth. She gave birth to a son, a male child, destined
to rule all the nations with an iron rod. Her child was caught up to God
and his throne. (Rev 12: 1-5)

Offering: Do I follow Mary’s example each day? Do I open my heart to receive the
grace of God through the Holy Spirit?

We pray that we might follow Mary’s example each day, and with the help
of her intercession, be brought to Christ in heaven to share fully in God
the Father’s presence for eternity.

We offer you, Lord Jesus, this decade in honour of the Crowning in glory
of your holy Mother in heaven. Through this mystery and her intercession
we ask for perseverance and an increase in virtue up to the moment of our
death and thereafter the eternal crown that is prepared for us. We ask for
the same grace for all the just and all our benefactors. May the grace of
the mystery of the Coronation come into us and make us truly humble.

Our Father...

O Holy Mary, hear the cries of those who long for heaven...
Hail Mary, full of grace…

O Holy Mary, with a mother's care lead the dying gently home...
Hail Mary, full of grace…

O Holy Mary, walk with those who seek the way home to your Son...
Hail Mary, full of grace…

O Holy Mary, intercede for those who pray to you today...

Hail Mary, full of grace…

O Holy Mary, remember those who lead and govern us...

Hail Mary, full of grace…

O Holy Mary, look with love on those who honor the name of your Son...
Hail Mary, full of grace…

O Holy Mary, send an angel to protect all who are lost...

Hail Mary, full of grace…

O Holy Mary, pray for the conversion of all who take life by violence...
Hail Mary, full of grace…

O Holy Mary, intercede with your son for all who have lost their way...
Hail Mary, full of grace…

O Holy Mary, walk closely with us in our search for the truth...

HAIL, HOLY QUEEN, Mother of Mercy, our life, our sweetness and our hope! To thee do
we cry, poor banished children of Eve; to thee do we send up our sighs, mourning and
weeping in this valley of tears. Turn then, most gracious advocate, thine eyes of mercy
toward us, and after this our exile, show unto us the blessed fruit of thy womb, Jesus.
O clement, O loving, O sweet Virgin Mary!

Leader: Pray for us, O Holy Mother of God.

All: That we may be made worthy of the promises of Christ.

Leader: Let us pray.

All: O God,
whose Only-Begotten Son,
by his life, death and resurrection,
has purchased for us the rewards of eternal life,
grant, we beseech you,
that meditating upon these mysteries
of the most holy rosary of the Blessed Virgin Mary,
we may imitate what they contain
and obtain what they promise,
through the same Christ our Lord.
Amen.
