Important Information

Specified light vehicles coming to Western Australia from the Eastern States can now
be licensed without inspection
Which vehicles qualify?
• Motor cars;
• Motor cycles, including mopeds;
• Goods/ Commercial vehicles;
• Trailers, including trailer plant;
• Caravans.

Providing your vehicle:


• Is a light vehicle;
Light vehicles have a Tare weight and Aggregate weight less than 4500kg.
Aggregate weight only applies to load carrying vehicles. (GVM, GTM and ATM can be used as Aggregate).
• Is currently licensed in an Australian jurisdiction;
• Has been licensed in your name for at least 12 months;
• Has an approved immobiliser fitted if required.
In WA, every vehicle must have either a factory fitted or Government Approved Immobiliser fitted before it can
be licensed, except the following exempt vehicles:
• Vehicles that are 25 years or older;
• Vehicles that have a Tare weight over 3000 kg;
• Motor cycles.

Vehicle must comply with modification requirements. The vehicle may be licensed without inspection if the vehicle:
• is unmodified; or
• has been modified and issued with a modification permit from an ES jurisdiction; or
• has an “allowable modification”.

Vehicle must not require annual inspection. The following vehicles are not eligible for ‘no inspection’ licensing and
must be examined:
• Taxis;
• Hire Vehicles;
• Omnibuses;
• Driving School vehicles;
• Vehicles with 13 seats or more, including the driver;
• School buses; and
• Vehicles used primarily to carry children to and from school (8 seats or more).
