The main objective of the Chilean National Parks is to protect samples of natural
environments and the evolutionary processes that take place in them, as well as preserving
their cultural and scenic heritage.
Therefore, we authorize education, research or recreation activities only to the extent that
they are consistent with our goal of preservation. (Chilean law 18.362)
The detailed regulations stated below are inspired on the protection of this park’s resources
and the precautions you must take into consideration to have a safe visit. The weather
conditions of the Patagonia are changing and unpredictable , and any act of carelessness
can be fatal.

RESTRICTED ACTIVITIES
CONAF allows low impact recreation activities under certain rules. Failure to comply with
these regulations will result in immediate expulsion from the park.
Pets
Their entry is not allowed, since they disturb the wildlife and can also transmit
and spread disease. In turn, your pets may also contract wildlife disease.
Wildlife watching and Photosafaris
It is only allowed from official trails marked on the map and in daylight. Any
activity off trails is prohibited, as the contact between humans and wildlife

Catch and release fishing, meeting the requirements stated on Law 10256
(fishing license, fishing season, gear type, etc.) is only authorized in the
Serrano River and Lake Toro. Due to the fact that Didymo is already present
within the park, disinfection of the fisherman’s complete gear and equipment
at the checkpoints in the presence of a park ranger is compulsory. Please help

Use of fire
The use of any heat source inside the park is prohibited by Law 20 653.
Violators will be put under the custody of Carabineros (Chilean police). The
breach of this rule may be punished with fines of up to CLP $2,000,000 or up
to three years in prison.
Camping
It is only allowed in the authorized areas indicated on this map. It is strictly
forbidden to spend the night elsewhere.
Cooking
Only small cookers or stoves that do not use plant material as fuel (BioLite
type) are allowed, and can be used exclusively in the specially equipped areas
of each camp or camping zone. Anywhere else is prohibited and
punishable by Law 20653.
Biking
It is authorized in vehicle roadways but it is not allowed on the trails of the W
and Macizo Paine circuits; Check with the rangers for other authorized routes.
For safety, always cycle with a partner given the risk of attack by pumas.
Horseback riding
It is only allowed through the services of companies authorized by CONAF and
in the special trails indicated on this map.
Climbing
It is only allowed under conditions stated on special permits that must be
processed at the Administrative Headquarters of the park.

Sailing
It is only allowed under conditions stated on special permits that must be
processed at the Administrative Headquarters of the park. In addition, all
watercrafts (kayak, inflatable boats, etc.) and related equipment entering the
park must show a certificate of disinfection issued by independent companies
operating in Puerto Natales. This document is valid for 48 hours and will be
held at the guard post.
Use of drones or radio-controlled equipment
It is prohibited because they disturb wildlife. If you are caught, you may be
reported to the General Directorate of Civil Aviation.
Paragliding, base jump and parachuting
It is prohibited in the entire national park.
Swimming
It is prohibited in all bodies of water in the park (lakes, ponds and rivers)
because of the high risk of drowning.
Filming
The park, as well as the other units of the National System of Protected Wild
Areas of Chile, is available for imaging (video, film, photo). If the purpose is
domestic use, press activity (photo and TV) and taken in public areas of the
park, no formal authorization is needed. Those activities that require
assembly, greater logistical deployment and/or are projects for profit,
advertising, or commercial ends are subject to charges and prior authorization.
No smoking
All wildfires that have affected the park have been caused by human

IMPORTANT INFORMATION
Litter: You must take any litter from your visit away from the park.
RV: Overnight stay of rigid-sides vehicles (RV, motorhome, caravan) is authorized
in certain camping areas: Serrano (Caja de los Andes) and Pehoe (Sodexo). They
can also stay in the parking areas that have public restrooms (as long as they
don’t make any discharges) located in Laguna Amarga, Sarmiento, Grey, Pudeto
and Administrative Headquarters checkpoints. Overnight stay elsewhere is
prohibited.
Cell Phone Coverage: There is no cellular signal in the park. In case of an
emergency, contact a park ranger, tour guide or driver that has radio equipment
(frequency 143,800 Mhz). If you have a satellite phone, you can call the Park
Administration Office at +56612360496 or Carabineros at +56612761139.
BEHAVIOR IN THE TRAILS
The trails go through the habitat of many species. Tread through them quietly to enjoy the
sounds of nature. Playing music through loudspeakers and running is not allowed.
If you have vertigo, please keep in mind that there are two suspension bridges over 20
meters high between Gray and Paso camps.
Walking through the trails without daylight is forbidden
Hiking in the dark is dangerous because you can get lost, fall or be attacked by a puma. The
wildlife has increased activity at nighttime, so human transit and using flashlights alter its
behavior.
Walk accompanied by someone else, only through authorized paths
Most fatal accidents in the park have occurred to those who walk alone or outside the
authorized trails. In addition to putting your safety at risk, hiking outside the demarcated
routes will cause soil erosion and irreparable damage.
Respect the Wildlife
If you become close to an animal, your presence can disrupt and harm it. Stay away and do
not approach. Do not touch the animal and never feed it. Keep children close to an adult at
all times. You can contribute in keeping our nature wild.
