Fitting instructions for type N10370, N10496, N10484 pneumatic
seals
1. General

You must only fit pneumatic seals which have undergone quality inspection under
N 361-71.5.

2. Removing the pneumatic seal:

2.1 Place the valve plate with the pneumatic seal fitted and easily accessible, horizontally on
the floor, or on a steady workbench.
2.2 Remove the pneumatic seal with the moulded-on valve from the valve plate and dispose
of it.
2.3 If there is any damage, make drawings, take photos.

3. Cleaning the existing parts.

3.1 Spray the base of the pneum. seal groove in the valve plate with seal remover and allow
to work. Carefully clean away any remnants of adhesive and other dirt. It may be
necessary to spray the groove two or three times to remove all the remnants of adhesive.
3.2 Then clean the groove with a cleaning cloth. If necessary, finish off with a plastic spatula.
3.3 Make a separate inspection of the conical seat of the valve face in the valve plate, to make
sure that all the sharp edges have been properly rounded off, there is no scoring and
everything is thoroughly clean.
3.4 Blow oil-free compressed air through the compressed-air infeed hole of the valve plate to
clear it
3.5 Then degrease the groove with brake cleaner.

4. Preparing the new pneumatic seal.

4.1 Examine the pneum. seal to make sure that the rubber cone of the valve seat vulcanising
point is thoroughly clean. Nothing must remain of the injection mark. If there are any
remnants of rubber still visible, these must be cut off and the rubber cone smoothed over
with grade 250 wet sandpaper.
4.2 Roughen the adhesion surface area of the chloridized sealing with sandpaper.
4.3 Check the 5.28 x 1.78 O-ring on the valve pin for damage and grease with vacuum grease.
N.B!
Only apply the vacuum grease to the O-ring groove and the O-ring itself!
4.4 Under no circumstances must you apply vacuum grease to the vulcanised valve face!
4.5 Place the pneum. seal with the smooth groove base side upward, on a clean surface.

5 Fitting the new pneum. seal

5.1 Carefully mix the requisite quantity of CEFILGRIP for the groove base and the valve seat
with 3% catalyst ( Durcisseur ), to speed up polymerisation

Warning!
The mixed quantity is only usable for one hour!
Important!
As, later on, the seal will sometimes be used at over 50 degrees centigrade, you should
add the catalyst ( DURCISSEUR ) and wait for full polymerisation ( 2-3 hours), before
using the parts again.
5.2 To increase viscosity and make it easier to coat the parts ( especially at the base of the
groove ), you must thin CEFILGRIP with up to 20% TOLUOL solvent.
Important!
TOLUOL thinners make it easier to apply an even coating and even speed up later
polymerisation.
5.3 First use a soldering fluid brush to apply an even and extremely thin coating of
CEFILGRIP ( prepared as stated under Pts. 6.1 & 6.2 ) to the base of the groove and the
cone on the valve seat in the valve plate.
Be careful with the side faces of the groove, as they must remain free of adhesive!
Then clean the side faces of the groove with rigid foam wrapped in a cloth (the entire
circumference).
5.4 Then, using a soldering fluid brush, apply a thin, even coating of CEFILGRIP ( prepared
as stated under Pts 5.1 & 5.2 ) to only the smooth groove base side and the valve face.
5.5 Insert the valve pin and O-ring to which to which you have applied vacuum grease into
the valve plate hole and then, with the aid of a plastic or metal spatula, carefully press the
seal into the groove without damaging it. Use the screw plug and the modified pressure
gauge quick-seal to screw down the valve plug until it is hand tight.
5.6 Push the pneumatic seal approximately 3-4mm down into the groove in the valve plate
using sequence (1), for the four same-length sides (do not push down as far as the base
of the groove). To do this, you must stretch the pneumatic seal slightly, as the seals are
made to be undersize (stretched length - 3% )
Moisten the seal that is still showing with a cloth which has been sprayed with the Teflon
spray, right round the circumference along the side faces.
Use sequence (2 ) to halve the distance 1 – 1 and push right down to the base of the
groove, then push down on all the points marked with a 3 and with the aid of a plastic or
metal spatula or a metal ruler, carefully push the seal down to the base of the groove,
without damaging it.
Watch out!
Use the narrow spatula for the rounded areas. The pneumatic seal must not protrude from
the groove at any point. Use the flat of your hand and the ruler to check this.
Watch out!
If you twist the valve pin by over-tightening the screw plug, this could destroy valve pin
vulcanisation and even break the valve pin.
5.7 a) Immediately use four screw clamps to brace the fitted seal with a suitable covering
counterplate.
or if you do not have a counterplate !!!
b) Immediately install the valve plate with the fitted seal into the system

Then apply 4.5 or 20 bar pressure to the pneumatic seal and allow to set for approximately
20 mins. Full polymerisation will take 2-3 hours.

Hint!
The only way to push the pneumatic seal into the base of the groove and into the conical
seat of the valve to make a perfect fit and guarantee perfect adhesion, is to apply pressure.
