Pre-Assessment

This pre-assessment showed me that students were curious about the human body. They were
aware of some of the names of the different body parts but not really sure what they meant or
what they did. X-Ray man is empty because all we did was introduce him to the class and
explain that we were going to give him body parts as we learn about the human body

This formative assessment tells me that all students understood that bones help you do you
daily activities and keep you from being a ball of mush. This assessment was taken during
share time for morning meeting. Some students chose to pass and I talked with them later in
the day where I asked them the same question. All but one answered. Another student was sick
for an entire week so they missed the entire lesson.

12 out of 18 students were able to complete the mid-term assessment. The six students who did
not complete the assessment were either receiving services outside of the classroom, absent,
or did not turn something in. This assessment lead me to change how I was going to give my
final summative assessment.

9 out of 18 students got a perfect score which is exactly half the class. 4 students got one or 2
parts wrong. Only one student used the incorrect color for a body part but knew where they
belonged on the body. 3 students glued the body part to the wrong part of the body. This might
be due to the fact that cutting with scissors is still difficult so some of the pieces were too large
to determine where they were actually glued on the body.
The L section of the KWL had so much new information I had to go on the back of the paper.
Also students were making so many connections and understanding so much more about the
various body parts I had to limit how many things I was writing for the sake of time. Students
were very responsive to X-Ray man and we even used him to stretch out the word ears which is
written as “Erz”. All students contributed to the KWL chart and would engage with the X-ray
man portion of the lessons.
