Universal Design for Learning (UDL): This tool allows for various types of assessments. This means that
students can use whatever assessment makes them most comfortable and ensures that they are able to
succeed to the best of their abilities. Also, for ELL’s Quizlet offers a feature where flashcards can be made in
various languages, making it rather easy for ELL’s to learn English vocabulary and share with the class how
things are said in their language.
Describe the instructional activities that will occur PRIOR to the SRT activity and how you will introduce
the SRT activity.
The students will watch a brief video before engaging in the SRT activity. The teacher will also review with the
students what they have learned about WW2 while highlighting information from the standard. The activity
will be introduced by the teacher going to the smartboard with the appropriate Quizlet already on the screen.
The teacher will then demonstrate the various types of assessments and encourage students to choose the
one that best benefits them.
Describe the purpose of the SRT activity (check all that apply):
☒ Assess prior knowledge ☐ Anticipatory set (Create interest in a topic) ☐ To illuminate common
misconceptions ☐ Formative assessment of content knowledge (for purpose of differentiation and
mastery for ALL students) ☒ Summative assessment of content knowledge ☒ Test preparation
☐ Survey/Poll ☐ Discussion starter ☐ “Homework” collection ☐ Other (please explain):

Briefly describe what will happen DURING the SRT activity:
During the SRT activity students will complete an assessment within 5 minutes. If the student finishes before
the 5 minutes is over, they can take the same assessment or a different one to improve their score. They will
then take a screenshot of their highest score and share it with the teacher privately on the classroom blog.
Type of questions/prompts used in this activity (check all that apply):
☒ Multiple choice ☐ Multiple select ☒ True/False ☐ Yes/No
☒ Short open-ended response or fill-in the blank ☐ Longer open-ended response
If you are unable to provide a working sample of your questions, please list them below (8-10):
After the SRT students will be encouraged to engage in a whole class discussion in which they identify and
misconceptions. If students are uncomfortable with this the teacher will prompt the class by giving examples
of misconceptions and calling on students to clarify.
The information collected from this activity will be used to guide instruction and clarify/address
misconceptions before the students take a test on the standard. The teacher will share the scores with
parents in order to help students get support from outside of the classroom. The teacher will also discuss the
whole classes performance to encourage the students and help them decide what to focus on. Data will be
used to differentiate instruction by identifying the type of question they were unable to answer correctly and
making sure to guide them as to how to answer that question.
I am hoping that allowing the students to choose the type of assessment will improve performance. I hope to
learn more inclusive ways to differentiate for each student. I hope the students learn there is no one right
way to study or take a test, but to do what works best for them.
Reflective Practice:
I feel that this activity can help impact student learning through the diversity of tools available. Because
Quizlet is a free online resource for both students and teachers, there are virtually no limitations to what can

be learned. Students can learn at their own pace and improve their skills through repetition if needed. To
extend this lesson, students can create their own set of cards and focus on another topic related to WW2.
Student can then post their set on the classroom blog for extra credit.
