Dear Hiring Manager:

Please accept the attached resume as an indication of interest in a position at your school. I have
extensive experience teaching English literature, English language development, and mathematics to a
diverse group of learners in Hong Kong. I believe that such a skill set, along with my ongoing
professional growth and development make me an ideal candidate, one who would be an asset to any
international school.

As a teacher at Delia School of Canada over the past five years, I have strived to create a classroom
environment where students are not only engaged and developing skills that will prepare them for
today’s job market, but also learning how to become critically-thinking lifelong learners who are
proactive about furthering their education. While clear curriculum expectations must be demonstrated
during each unit, students have a large degree of autonomy in terms of the topics, mediums and
formats which they use to show their learning in my classroom. As I complete my International
Educator Certificate for IB, I hope to learn new ways to promote inquiry-based learning and
metacognition in my students.

Technology tools plays a big role in my teaching, as I use online platforms such as Google Classroom,
PlanBoard and Class Dojo and extensions such as Screencastify, Read&Write, and EquatiO on a daily
basis. I model math problem-solving strategies using SmartView and GeoGebra and maintain a
YouTube channel where students can supplement their understanding with videos and playlists I have
created on topics such as quadratics, trigonometry, theme and the writing process. In addition to more
traditional paper and pencil assessment, I also track student learning through sites such as NoRedInk,
Read Theory, and Google Forms. Students in my class have used green screens, script-writing software,
and a variety of digital presentation techniques to complete assignments.

A large part of my success as a teacher can be attributed to my ability to work well with a team in a
professional academic setting. At department meetings, I have taken the initiative of developing unit
plans, helped design and run workshops aimed at preparing students for standardized tests, and aided
colleagues in understanding new teaching tools. In turn, I diligently note and respond to feedback from
team members and administrators, always looking for ways it can help inform my own professional
practice. I have demonstrated leadership by creating or revising course outlines, assessments and
pedagogy in a way that makes for more meaningful, authentic and transparent teaching. I have also
presented to my colleagues on these topics multiple times during professional development days.

My passion for working in a mentor capacity goes well beyond the classroom, as I have been heavily
involved in extracurricular activities at DSC - coaching six different sports teams over the past several
years. Having taught in four different countries on three continents while working with students of all
ages, I know the unique challenges and opportunities afforded by joining a diverse community of
teachers and students in a new learning environment. I am eager to prove how much of an asset I can
be to your school. For more detailed information, resources, images and documentation related to my
experiences and practice, please visit my website: www.paulmcgoey.com
