All Vassallo products are visually inspected
for proper workmanship the moment they
are produced. This is to make sure that all
our PVC and CPVC products are homog-

pieces are taken during production hours
for rigorous control testing. Some of these
tests include:

CPVC Pipes and Fittings

(Hot water)
DIMENSIONS AND
PRESSURE RATINGS

Pipes and fittings used in potable water systems are manufactured to the dimensions and
specifications outlined in ASTM D-2846. This product is tan in color and the tubing has
the same diameter as copper tubing. It is therefore, identified as copper-tube-size (CTS).
Tables 1 through Table III show some properties of these types of pipes and fittings.

Table I

HOW TO ALLOW FOR THERMAL

EXPANSION AND CONTRACTION

Like all piping materials, CPVC expands when heated Generally, thermal expansion can be accommodated
and contracts when cooled. CPVC piping (regardless with changes in direction; however, a long straight
of pipe diameter) will expand about 3.5 inches per run may require an offset or loop. For convenience,
100 ft. of length when subjected to a 100ºF tempera- loop (or offset) lengths have been calculated for dif-
ture increase. Therefore, allowances must be made ferent pipe sizes and different run lengths with a tem-
for this resulting enlargement. In addition, the pipe perature increase ( T) of about 80ºF. The results,
must be hung with smooth straps which will not re- shown in the Table IV, are presented simply as a guide
strict the movement. for quick and easy determination of acceptable loop
lengths for the approximate conditions.

stack the pipes next to heat sources such as heaters
