Dear Cuong,
Thank you for your email and expression of your interest in working on a PhD under my
supervision. Your previous projects do overlap my research interests.
In order to apply for an IPRA scholarship, it is high competitive and will normally require a
number of publications. Also, there is a need for a two page research proposal to accompany
the candidature application. Do you have an idea of what kind of projects you would like to
work on as a PhD project?
Please refer to the following link for the scholarship and candidature application.

Dear Cuong,
I am very interested in supervising a project that applies online incremental learning models to
data streams. As UNE is traditionally strong in the agriculture area and our CS group here has
had a number of collaborative projects with staff from Precision Agriculture Research Group,
etc., we are considering if the algorithmic development part of your thesis might be applied to
an application in the agriculture setting. More and more applications in agriculture are relying
on IoT and big data, and we have access to some relevant datasets here for our research.
Would you be interested in situating the applied side of your research proposal to the Agro-
informatics domain? This might increase the chance of success in your scholarship application if
your research aligns with one of UNE's research priorities.
I have spoken with Dr. Greg Falzon, my colleague in CS and close collaborator, who has a
number of grants relevant to the agro-informatics area, and he is happy to suggest some
application areas to go along with your proposal.
I gathered from your CV that you already have an IELTS score of 6.5 for English, so should be
able to satisfy our English requirement both for candidature and scholarship applications.
If you are keen to apply, as I said, the deadline for IPRA this round is March 16, so you will have
to move quickly to complete both the candidature and scholarship applications.
Best Regards,
Paul
Hi Cuong,
Regarding some helpful materials to enhance your research proposal to making impact to the
'digital' agriculture area, please refer to the following link:
http://www.crdc.com.au/sites/default/files/P2D%20Precision%20to%20Decision%20Agricultur
e%20Final%20Overview%20CRDC.pdf
which is the strategy that will be adopted by the Australian Government to enabling digital
agriculture in Australia. If IoT sensors for capturing different environmental, climatic and/or soil
data can be processed in real-time and learning models updated incrementally, I think there is a
great potential for your proposed research to make contributions to this important goal of the
Australian Government and the Agricultural section.
Could you enhance your research proposal to situate it in how it might impact/benefit digital
agriculture research and applications?
Best Regards,
Paul

Hi Cuong,
Thanks for being interested in working with us. I am very impressed with your CV and your research
experience.
The main scholarship round at UniSA is in August, but we have a couple of scholarships that can be
offered for excellent candidates at the moment.
Would you please follow the following link to apply for a scholarship as soon as possible?

Dear Pham,
Your background and experiences look attractive to me. I notice that you already had quite a lot of co-authored
papers. Would you mind me knowing what your individual contributions are in these papers? I will explore some
scholarship opportunities and then get back to you soon.
Cheers, Kai
