Internal recruitment takes place when staff within the organisation are invited to apply for a
position in the company while external recruitment occurs when candidates outside the
organisation are invited through advertisements to fill a position in the company.
The advantages of internal recruitment are: staff promotion and development, steep staff
learning curve due to shorter time for orientation and training while for external the major
advantage is new people bring in new ideas, skills and knowledge.
The demerits of internal recruitment is lack of required level of creativity and innovation.
With external recruitment, the disadvantages may be resentments, gentle learning curves
i.ee long time to adapt to the environment and expensive procedure.
