The Viet Cong have 3 different Squad Types in FOF and a variation of weapons as

they were a guerilla forced equipped by a combination of North Vietnamese supplied

Chinese weapons and weapons captured from the ARVN. This squad is using the
reliable US M1 rifle taken from ARVN

This VC squad is using the SKS Carbine. The SKS fired the 7.62x39 round, the same
as the AK47. The SKS is semi automatic and fed by an internal 10 round magazine.
The Chinese version is a Type 56 and was commonly used by VC and NVA forces.

This VC squad is equipped with the AK47 firing the 7.62x39 round from the distinctive
30 round detachable curved box magazine. Ostensibly selective fire (semi or fully
automatic), it was typically fired on full automatic. The common VC technique was fire a
clip on full auto and break contact

This VC squad is equipped with various small arms and captured US made M79 40mm
grenade launchers. The weapon was popular with the VC who used it like a light mortar.
The high angle, indirect fire could allow them to attack with limited exposure and then
break contact.

The VC had fewer crew served weapons than the NVA so all their teams are separate
units. The primary machine gun for both the NVA and the VC was the RPD. A belt fed
machine gun firing the 7.62x39 round from a 100 round belt held in the drum. The
Chinese version is called a Type 56 (sorry same as the SKS)

This VC machine gun team is equipped with a M1919A6 captured from the ARVN or
recycled from the French

The RPG2 aka B40 anti-tank recoilless grenade launcher was a Russian adaptation of the
German Panzerfaust. Simple and robust the 80mm grenade fitted to the front of a 40mm
type. The effective range is 100-150m. Able to penetrate over 7 inches of armor the B40
was dangerous to US tanks, however the weapon was commonly employed in general
support. The RPG2 would be replaced by the RPG7 which has a rocket assist to the
grenade giving it greater range and accuracy

The M2 carbine of Korean fame was quite popular with ARVN and VC due to its light
weight. A good weapon for close quarters jungle fighting.

This Fire Team is depicted with the French MAT49 sub machine gun. This weapon was
ubiquitous in the French Indochina War after its introduction in 1949. Its compact design
made it popular. The North Vietnamese rechambered many to the 7.62x25 Tokarev pistol
from the original 9mm.

The NVA and VC snipers were equipped with the Mosin-Nagant M1891/30 with the PU
x3.5 scope. It fires the 7.62x54R full powered rifle round for long range accurate shooting.

The 60mm Mortar either captured from ARVN or a Chinese copy of the US mortar and
was a popular support weapon for VC units, due to its relative light weight and decent
range (up to 1900m). The heavier hitting 82mm mortars were more common with NVA
units.
In an unfortunate bit of counter errata, these counters were not supposed to have the step
dot and were to track usage of the B40 available ammunition on the map. NVA squads and
team have 2 shots, VC only one. Updated counters were provided, however the way to
know is the words 1 or 2 shots – that was the purpose of the counter was to indicate the
remaining B40 shots
