games. Just like other countries, we also have
games of our own. We are going to learn two of
it today.

Students, do you know other traditional games

that you played with your family or your friends? Teacher I know one!

Yes Jane, what is that? Teacher, my friends and I usually plays tamaang tao

How about you, Mae? Teacher I also play patintero and tagu-taguan with
Very good Mae. my friends.

Very good students, all you have mentioned are

examples of traditional games.

Today, we will discuss two traditional games. Yes teacher! We’re excited.
Students, would like to play “batuhang bola” and
“tumbangpreso?

But first, we are going tackle the mechanics and

the right way to play these two games.
We will start first with the game “batuhang (The pupils are listening to the teacher very well)
bola”.

Tamaang Bola (Dodgeball)

Dodgeball is played with 2 teams of 6 players if
the game is played indoors and 10 players for
outdoor competition. The objective of the game
is to avoid being hit by balls the other team is
throwing and eliminate the other team’s players.

Set-up Dodgeball:
 Divide the playing area in half with a
line.
 Place a line or object in the center of this
line to mark it as the middle.
 Draw 2 attack lines 10 feet from the
center line in each direction.
 Draw an “end line” rectangle at the far
end of each team’s playing field.
 Place the balls on the center line -
spaced evenly.

How to play Dodgeball

 Players start the game at the end line
with one foot in the rectangle. At the
whistle teams rush toward the middle
and grab the balls only to the right side
of the marker on the center line.
 Team members throw balls at the
opposite team only after they have
crossed back over their own “attack”
line. Players may never cross the middle
line or step out of bounds.
 Players who are hit with the balls are
out of the game.
 If you catch a ball thrown at you (before
it hit’s the ground) then the thrower is
out. After catching the ball an
eliminated player from your team gets
to come back.
 Hitting a player in the face eliminates
the thrower.

Rules:
A player is out if:
 They throw a ball that is caught by the
other team.
 They get hit by a ball thrown by the
other team. (If the ball does bounce off
an opposing player and is then caught
the thrower will then be out. This is true
even if a different player catches the
ball. However if the ball bounces off
another ball, the ball is dead). Players
may use the ball to block; however, if
the ball is knocked out of their hand
while blocking, they will be out.
• They hit another player above the
shoulders.
• They cross the center line.

A player is not out if:

• Their ball is caught off the wall or ceiling.
• They get hit above the shoulders.

As we have discussed earlier, what is the Teacher, the objective of this game to avoid being hit
objective of the game dodgeball for a team to by the other team and to eliminate the players of the
win the game? other team by throwing the balls to them.

That’s right Niña. The objective of the game is to

avoid being hit by the other team and to hit all
your opponents for your team to win the game.

What are the rules to determine that a player is Teacher, a player is eliminated if they throw a ball
out or eliminated in the game? that is caught by the other team, they get hit by a
ball thrown by the other team, they hit another
player above the shoulders and if they cross the
center line.

Very good Christine. Now let’s move on to the

next laronglahi.

Tumbang Preso
For the purpose of making the game enjoyable
and exciting, the composition of players should
not be more than 9. The principle involved is to
hit and knock down the milk can with the
"pamato," and for the “it” to put back the can
inside a small circle a few meters away from the
toe-line. When a player is tag while re-covering
his pamato, he becomes the “it”.

How to play tumbang preso:

 Begin by drawing a circle on the ground
and a straight barrier line +20ft away. All
players will throw their pamato towards
the circle. Those who throw the pamato
too far or not far enough will repeat
until one person is left. This person is
“IT”.
 The “it” will guard a milk can in the
aforementioned circle while the other
players will attempt to knock it over
with their pamato from the barrier line.
 Players after throwing their pamato, will
have to retrieve it without getting
tagged.
 If the milk can is standing, the “IT” can
tag anyone attempting to retrieve their
shoe only if the milk can is standing
upright in the circle.
 If a player hits the milk can and pushes it
out of the circle, but it doesn’t fall over,
other players may proceed in throwing
their pamato at it until it does fall over.
It makes no difference if you knock it
over within the circle. However, the “it”
must place the pamato back into the
circle in order to tag anyone once it falls.
 Once a player is tagged, they become
the new “IT”.
Rules:
1. An “it”, the one to guard the milk can is
chosen by throwing the "pamato" to the toe line
by all the players. Whoever player whose
"pamato" is farthest from the toe-line is the
“it”.
2. The hitters will line up at the back of the toe-
line and at the sign of the “it”, game is started.
3. The "pamato" must be retrieved immediately
once the can is knocked down; otherwise once
the “it” has placed the can inside the circle, the
one tagged becomes the “it”.
4. When the can is hit and went off the circle but
remains standing, the “it” has the right to tag
the hitter once the hitter leaves the toe-line.
5. The can maybe kicked or knocked down under
situation No. 4.
6. If a hitter is not able to retrieve his "pamato,"
the others can save him by hitting the can.

C. Comparison and Abstraction

What is laro ng lahi? These are the games that promote physical fitness
and wellness of an individual.
Correct. What are the two games that we We learned about tamaang bola or dodge ball and
learned today? tumbang preso.

Very good. What is the difference between The objective of the game tamaang bola is to avoid

eliminate the other team’s players. While for
tumbang preso, he principle involved is to hit and

meters away from the toe-line.

D. Generalization

Students, what do you think is the importance (Students answers may vary)
of playing our very own traditional games or laro Through playing these laro ng lahi or traditional
ng lahi? games, we can show how we promote nationalism
and appreciate the games and activities that were
played by generations of Filipinos.
Aside from that, these also promote healthy
lifestyle and active outdoor play among children in
schools and barangays.

E. Application
So now, we are going to play the games we have
discussed earlier to see how well you
understand the rules and mechanics of tumbang
preso and batuhang bola.
First, we will play batuhang bola. I will divide the (students start playing batuhang bola)
class into two groups. One group will be the “it”
and the other group will be the one to play.

Now we are going to play tumbang preso. (students starts playing tumbang preso)
I need five people to demonstrate play the
game.

To know who will going to be the “it” every

player will flip the can, the one who will not be
able to flip the can will be the “it”

F. Assessment
Read each item carefully. Identify if the (students are listening to the instruction of the
statement tells about Tamaang Tao or Tumbang teacher)
Preso. Write A if it is Tamaang Tao and B if
Tumbang Preso.
