1.1 Introduction
The 7302 ISAM is a frame based Digital Subscriber Line Access Multiplexer
(DSLAM), that is, a Digital Subscriber Line (DSL) access multiplexer which is
based on a frame forwarding architecture in a packet aggregation network.

User Side
At the user side, each 7302 ISAM terminates DSL links and a limited number of FE
or GE links.
It is possible to connect subtending DSLAMs to the FE/GE links at the user side in:
• cascading mode: a chain of 1 subtending ISAM per ISAM
• star mode: multiple subtending ISAMs per ISAM
• ring mode (except when there is a ring behind a Hub-ISAM).
Figure 1-2 shows the cascading topology.

Network Side
At the network side, the 7302 ISAM terminates GE or FE links. The following
configurations are possible:
• Connected to one or more Ethernet Switches
The Ethernet links can be connected to one or more Ethernet Switches. These
Ethernet Switches forward the frames over the Ethernet based aggregation access
network until they reach the IP Edge Router or BRAS of the corresponding
Network Service Provider (NSP). At the IP Edge Router or BRAS, the frames
enter the IP backbone of the NSP.
• More than one FE/GE link (link aggregation)
In case of more than one FE or GE, Ethernet link aggregation is used.
• Directly connected to an IP Edge Router
The 7302 ISAM can be connected directly to the IP Edge Router or BRAS. The
Ethernet aggregation network is reduced to one or more parallel Ethernet links.

The LT boards, a.k.a. Line Interface Modules (LIMs), use a different interworking
function between the user side and the Ethernet network side, depending on the board
type. Table 1-2 shows the supported LT boards with their physical interface types,
density (that is, number of lines per board) and Interworking function (IWF)
capability.

Service Hub
The Service Hub (SHub) multiplexes the Ethernet frames into a reduced set of
network links (that is, aggregates traffic from / to subscriber interfaces on one or a
limited number of network uplinks).
The SHub is integrated in a NT board. Figure 1-4 shows the connections of the NT

The NE equipment practice type does not have to be explicitly planned by the
operator, but is autoplanned by the NT at startup, depending on the detected type. At
the same time, the NT will autoplan the maximum number of racks supported by this
equipment practice. The following ISAM types are defined:
• LEEU: Large ISAM EU market (6 racks, 4 subracks per rack)
• LEUS: Large ESAM US market (6 racks, 4 subracks per rack)
• LNEU: Large New Equipment Practise EU market(6 racks, 4 subracks per rack)
Subracks are automatically planned upon detection. The operator can control the
administrative state of a subrack (lock/unlock).
The NE manages different types of boards. A complete overview of all supported
board types in each type of subrack is given in the chapter “Subracks”. Board
planning is supported for all types of boards, including the appliques. For LSMs, the
operator can control the administrative state (lock/unlock).
REMs are connected to the host system via a subrack expander unit
• on 7330 XD equipment, this is the GENC(-E) board supporting 2 uplinks, 10
downlinks and 2 configurable links.
• on 7330 FD equipment, this is the NT I/O board supporting 6 downlinks
(NCNC-B) or 12 downlinks (NCNC-C) depending on the NT I/O board type.
Unlike other LTs, REMs are not able to indicate their position in the system. Their
positioning is provisioned by the operator by provisioning the mapping of the SFP
port ID on the subrack expander unit (GENC or NT I/O) to a remote LT slot position
(rack/subrack/slot) referred to as the equipment port-mapping.
Note — There is no longer a fixed REM slot positioning / SFP port
mapping.
For expansion LTs (that is, LTs in physical expansion subracks), which are capable
of reporting their physical location, this provisioning is used by the system to check
the operator's cabling of the system. If a cabling mismatch is detected, an alarm is
reported.
The provisionable port-mapping also facilitates the network management station to
properly configure the system as a whole, including the SHub LT ports
configuration. It additionally allows a multi-subrack LT-indexing scheme in
CLI/TL1 preprovisioning scripts, including the SHub LT ports configuration.

The ISAM with integrated Voice-band services (ISAM-V) is the product where
voice-band services are integrated in ISAM. It supports the NarrowBand (NB)
services and provides the connection to the Next Generation Voice Networks
(NVGN) for legacy Public Switching Telephone Network (PSTN) users via Voice
over IP (VoIP). It plays the role of Media Gateway (MG), also called Access Media
Gateway (AG).

ISAM-V
The ISAM-V connects legacy Narrow Band (NB) user interfaces, including Plain
Old Telephone Services (POTS) and Integrated Services Digital Network (ISDN)
BA, to the NGVN.
ISAM-V supports centralized configurations, where the NB user interfaces and MG
are integrated in the same node, and distributed configurations, where the MG is
located in a hub node and the NB user interfaces in remote nodes.
The remote nodes can be subtended by the ISAM-V acting as a MG, or located
within the EMAN or IP network.
The hub ISAM-V, combined with the subtending/remote ISAM-V, provides the
view of a unique centralized MG. In subtending or remote configurations, the
connection to the hub is via Fast or Gigabit Ethernet (optical or electrical) to the
Service Hub (SHub) node. The Trunk MG links the NGVN with a legacy PSTN
network.
The Softswitch is responsible for call control and charging, and communicates with
the Media Gateways via the Media Gateway Control (MEGACO) protocol H.248.
SIGTRAN is used for ISDN user, i.e. Q921 is terminated in ISAMV and SIGTRAN
is implemented to transfer Q931 messages between ISAMV and ASP.
The ISAM-V internal forwarding is frame based. Frame based forwarding is done
either based on L2 (Ethernet), L3 (IP) information or L4 (UDP) information carried
in the frames.
ISAM-V can host multiple MGs in one shelf. In this case, multiple service providers
could be assigned (one service provider associated with one MG).
Network configurations
Different configurations of the network architecture described above exist (see
Figure 2-2), depending on the aggregation network, and depending on the way that
ISAM-V connects to this aggregation network:
• Switched aggregation network, iBridge or IP-aware bridge:
ISAM-V connects to a Layer 2 aggregation network and implements the iBridge
or IP-aware bridge for forwarding voice traffic
• Routed aggregation network, iBridge or IP-aware bridge:
ISAM-V connects to a Layer 3 aggregation network, and implements the iBridge
or IP-aware bridge for forwarding voice traffic
• Routed aggregation network, IP router:
ISAM-V connects to a Layer 3 aggregation network, and implements IP router
for forwarding voice traffic

NB Subscriber Links
ISAM-V supports Line Termination boards with various types of NB subscriber
interface:
• POTS interface
This is the analogue Z interface connecting to a telephone set. The main common
features are the following:
• Line feeding
• Symmetrical programmable ringing
• Metering tone insertion
• Polarity reversal
• Programmable line impedance with echo cancellation
• Overvoltage protection
• Line testing facility
• ISDN BA interface
ISDN BA interface corresponds to the U reference point of the Digital
Transmission System.
The interface provides full–duplex and bit independent transmission via two
wires at a net bit rate of 144 Kbit/s, a transparent 1 Kbit/s service channel and a
1 Kbit/s maintenance channel for loops and error messages on subscriber lines,
plus synchronization bits.
Duplex transmission is achieved through the use of Echo Cancellation Hybrid.
With the Echo Cancellation Hybrid method the Echo Canceller (EC) produces a
replica of the echo of the transmitted signal that is subtracted from the total
received signal. The echo is the result of imperfect balance of the hybrid and
impedance discontinuities in the line.
The 2B1Q encoding is applied; the symbol rate on the line is therefore 80 KBaud.

Some routers support different Quality of Service (QoS) classes based on the
Differentiated Services methodology. The class of service is defined by the
Differentiated Services Code Point (DSCP) which corresponds to the 6 first bits of
the Type of Service (TOS) field of IPv4, the remaining 2 bits are currently unused.
The IP voice packets (RTP/RTCP) in ISAM-V include a configured DSCP value,
therefore the voice packets can use separate queues from data in the IP network
minimizing delay and jitter. The value of DSCP is configurable. The voice frames in
the ISAM-V are formatted according to IEEE 802.3 and VLAN 802.1Q tagged
including priority queuing according to IEEE 802.1p.

Management Interface
The ISAM-V supports two separate SNMP agents: the NT part and IVPS part. The
NT part supports SNMPv1/SNMPv2/SNMPv3 agent, the IVPS part supports a
SNMPv1 agent. The EMS has to use a different IP address to address a particular
agent.
Local management of the NT part requires the operator to use the serial interface on
the NT.Via this interface, he can manage all the equipment management, alarm
management and SW/DB management functionality using CLI/TL1.
Local management of IVPS is not supported; therefore the trouble shooting and
debugging functions for voice service will be done via a MIB browser. The
management interface for ISAM-V is illustrated below in Figure 2-10.

Supplementary Services
Supplementary services are widely used in traditional PSTN network. When
customers consider evolving/migrating from TDM network to NGN IP based
network, they expect feature parity, i.e. to support legacy services. Therefore, the
support of supplementary services becomes mandatory for ISAM-V.
In a H.248 network, the ISAM-V works as a voice access gateway. All call activities
are controlled by the MGC. The supplementary service is provisioned by the
operator on the MGC or registered on the MGC through a registration procedure by
an operation by the subscriber. Such service registration and withdrawing operation
are transparent to the ISAM-V. The ISAM-V responds to the MGCs H.248 message
and allocates resources for the subscriber when a supplementary service is invoked
for this subscriber.
Table 2-3 lists the supported supplementary services in ISAM-V.

Product Architecture
The ISAM Voice Package architecture is that of the ISAM with the addition of voice
services, which translates into the addition of the following boards:
one server board, which is the VoIP gateway for IVPS NVPS
ISAM-V(1)
one LIM board providing ISDN Basic Access (ISDN BA) BALT NBAT
interface connectivity
Notes
(1) This board provides a server function, but is plugged into an LT position
Architecture View
The following applies for the ISAM-V product architecture:
• ISAM-V nodes are connected to an EMAN
• An ISAM-V node integrates either:
• the server board (see Table 2-4) performing the signaling and OAM functions of the
GW
• a number of NB LTs boards (see Table 2-4) performing the media functions
• both types together
• MEGACO and SIGTRAN signaling and external voice service OAM are
terminated at IVPS
• Internal control and signaling communication between IVPS and NB LTs uses
XLES protocol.
• IVPS board is located into a hub node
• From the voice service point of view, one IVPS can control several ISAM-V
cascading nodes (up to 4 levels) with a number of NB LT boards as well as several
ISAM-V distributed nodes (i.e. accessible via a common EMAN) with a number
of NB LT boards
• All User Port in one NB LT are controlled from the same IVPS
Note: Although it is not a system constraint, the network deployment should be
planned so that all user ports in one shelf are associated to/ controlled by only one
IVPS. This is recommended for two different reasons:
• simplest network architecture with an easier operation
• to keep compatibility with further features in order to limit the bandwidth/number
of calls per shelf
• The different traffic flows related to voice service are isolated into different
VLANs which are defined over the EMAN and in the ISAM SHub:
• Voice VLAN:
RTP traffic and XLES signaling is carried over this VLAN
• MEGACO VLAN:
for MEGACO signaling traffic between CS and the media GW and SIGTRAN
signaling between ASP and the signalling GW
• External OAM VLAN:
for provider operation and management
• Both hub and subtending (cascading or remote (distributed)) configurations are
possible. In cascading configurations, the connection to the hub is via Fast or
Gigabit Ethernet (optical or electrical) to the SHub of the hub node.

IVPS/NVPS
The server board communicates with the voice line boards by means of an “extended
BLES” (XLES) proprietary protocol. The server board terminates the proprietary
signaling messages from the voice boards, provides a MEGACO interface with the
call server and handles the specific OAM needed to support VoIP service.
The server board functions are:
• The signaling interface with the call server or soft-switch (MEGACO signaling)
• Internal proprietary protocol (XLES) for signaling supervision and control with
POLT line termination boards
• Digit Map processing (either under MEGACO reception or by CDE data)
• Specific OAM interface needed to support VoIP configuration and service
• Persistent storage of the voice service database including back-up and restore
• Regarding ISDN signaling, the server board:
• performs message relay between the DSS1 XLES messages containing Q921 and
the IUA over SCTP messages that carry the Q931 info towards the ASP.
• relays the ISDN signalling packets (DSS1) from/to UDP-XLES socket and
translates those related to Q921 info (SAPI, TEI) to/from IUA/SCTP.
• Q931 layer is not processed by IVPS or BALT, but transparently sent/received as
SIGTRAN packets information to/from the Call Server.
• Configuration data:
the server board stores the L1 activation type (per-call or permanent) and the
D-packet switching enabling / disabling for each port. When the communication
with a BALT/NBAT is established, IVPS/NVPS sends this information to
BALT/NBAT.
POLT/NPOT
The LIM board supports up to 48 POTS interfaces and integrates functions such as
ringing, digit detection and tone generation. The LIM board provides a classical
POTS interface towards the subscriber and performs the packetization of the voice
over RTP, sending the voice directly to the network as VoIP over Ethernet.
This is the analogue Z interface connecting to a telephone set. The main common
features are the following:
• Interfacing at subscribers side according to the POTS analogue Z interface:
• Line feeding
• Symmetrical programmable ringing
• Polarity reversal
• Programmable line impedance with echo cancellation
• Overvoltage protection
• Signaling events processing and communication with the server board according
to internal XLES protocol
• DTMF/pulse detection/processing
• Caller identification services (FSK, DTMF, on-off hook)
• Tone generation towards subscriber side
• Howler tone generation
• Tone generation towards network side (needed for ring-back tone)
• Metering pulses generation
• Ringing generation.
• Integrated line testing
• Coding (G.711 and either G.729 or G.723.1) and packetizing voice in RTP and
directly forwarding to/from packet network based on MAC/IP/UDP addresses
• Voice activity detection, comfort noise, packet loss concealment
• Near end echo cancellation
• Fax/modem detection/bypass
• Support of relay of DTMF and some fax/modem tones by means of RFC 2833
• Support for T.38
BALT/NBAT
The interface of the LIM board corresponds to the U reference point of the Digital
Transmission System as defined in G.961.
The interface provides full-duplex and bit independent transmission via two wires at
a net bit rate of 144 Kbit/s, a transparent 1 Kbit/s service channel and a 1 Kbit/s
maintenance channel for loops and error messages on subscriber lines, plus
synchronization bits.
Duplex transmission is achieved through the use of Echo Cancellation Hybrid. With
the Echo Cancellation Hybrid method, the Echo Canceller (EC) produces a replica
of the echo of the transmitted signal that is subtracted from the total received signal.
The echo is the result of imperfect balance of the hybrid and impedance
discontinuities in the line.
The 2B1Q encoding is applied; the symbol rate on the line is therefore 80 KBaud.
In the case of ISDN-BA over IP, the functionality is split between the BALT line
board and the IVPS board. The board supports 24 ISDN-BA user ports and
terminates Q.921 data links; IVPS establishes a SIGTRAN communication with the
MGC which enable the backhaul of Q.931 to MGC. The internal control protocol,
XLES, is enhanced to encapsulate and transport the Q.931 and other communication
needed between IVPS/NVPS and BALT/NBAT.
IVPS/NVPS Redundancy
IVPS/NVPS redundancy adopts the ISAM LSM 1+1 redundancy architecture, which
provides switchover logic interface and communication channel in backplane by
pairs. It protects against the HW failure/SW failure in case the redundant
IVPS/NVPS board is equipped.
IVPS/NVPS works in a active/stand-by redundancy scheme: regular checks and
information update is performed between the two IVPS/NVPS.
The 1+1 HW redundancy interface provides support for:
• Master/slave selection
• Communication channel for fast data communication
The standby card has the information needed to take the control of the VoIP service,
but the call state of the ports is not replicated. Therefore all calls are lost at
switchover time. This means that the static configuration data is synchronized to the
standby IVPS/NVPS, but the dynamic context/state is not synchronized to the
standby IVPS/NVPS. Before the standby IVPS/NVPS is switched to active, the
IVPS/NVPS IVPS must reload the applications and related configuration data.
MEGACO
MEGACO ITU H.248.1 version 1 and H.248.1 version 2 are supported. The used
version of MEGACO is negotiated with the MGC. A CDE item for IVPS indicates
what version has to be answered to MGC. When the CDE item indicates
H248_version = 1, the IVPS has to “filter” the version 2 packages in the reply to an
Audit (Values, Capabilities) MGC request.
XDD Buffering is supported. Basically, this is to prevent loosing digits when, after
matching with a valid dialplan, the user still continues dialling. When digit buffering
is active, detected digits are kept in the IVPS in a buffer as a digit string until a timer
expires or a new matching with the current valid dialplan occurs.

Notes
(1) When a failure of the MGC-MG communication occurs then (a) the MG sends a Service Change (SC)
command with SC method “disconnected” and SC reason “900” to the MGC in current control
association.
If the MGC fails to respond then (b) the MG sends a SC command with SC method “failover” and SC
reason 909 (MGC Impending Failure) to each MGC in its list in turn till it has successfully established
a new control association.
Only part (b) is supported.
(2) To place the MG OutOfService, the MGC sends a SC command with a SC method of “Forced” or
“Graceful”.
Only the “Forced” service change method is supported.
The ISAM-V supports the Service Change (SC) commands from MG to MGC, with
supported SC reasons and SC methods as listed in Table 2-6.

Fax over IP
ISAM-V supports Fax over IP (FoIP) according to the ITU-T T.38 recommendation.
This recommendation describes the procedures to be applied in the FoIP
transmission between two standard Group 3 facsimile terminals.
Call establishment for a PSTN or ISDN fax call is exactly the same as for a voice
call. The MGC audits the IVPS to know the T.38 fax capabilities of the
MediaGateway. In this case, the IVPS must reply according to T.38 specifications;
at XLES start-up, the POLTs/NPOTs send their T.38 capabilities to the IVPS/NVPS.
When passing to T.38 mode, the MGC/IVPS configures some T.38 parameters like
version, bitrate, … In this mode, the LTs process the data from a fax device, construct
and transmit the packets to the peer-end according to T.38 protocols (UDP-TL, IFP
(internet fax protocol)). In the downstream direction, the LTs process the T.38
packets from the peer and convert them into fax data which are sent to the attached
fax device.
The transport protocol used in ISAM-V for T.38 is UDP.
Overview
Line testing of user ports is part of a management activity which is performed by the
operator in order to diagnose failure or detect potential problems so as to bring the
customer access back to its normal state of operation whenever a deviation occurs.
Tests can be performed on a routine basis (mainly at night with scheduled facility)
or on demand (required by an operator command). The tests described in this
document are intended to test the terminal equipment and lines, which is called
outward test; and line circuits directly connected to subscribers, which is also called
inward test.
The architecture of PSTN line testing is illustrated in Figure 2-20.

Test requests are sent from the test platform (for example, 5530NA, 112 MD, and so
on). The ISAM-V is responsible for handling the test requests. This includes
verifying that the request is valid, setting up the test environment, performing the test
and providing the test results to the test platform. Once a test request has been
validated, the ISAM-V sets up the test environment including the possible changing
of states and/or related configuration.
Test requests indicate the test to be performed and may indicate the resource(s) to be
tested and the timeout period. The PSTN line testing is performed directly by SNMP
commands sent by the OS through the IVPS boards.
The involved elements outside the NE include:
• Subscriber analog terminal
Telephone set in subscriber assisted tests such as Pulse/ DTMF dialling, etc.
• Network termination
Indicating termination for digital ISDN BA lines.
In order to avoid conflicts between intrusive testing and normal working of the
resources, the Line Testing functionality makes use of blocking mechanisms: a test
command is always rejected if the line is busy and, when accepted, the Media
Gateway has to inform the Call Server to block the line.
To evaluate whether a test is passed or failed, a predefined threshold value is used.
These predefined threshold values are defined in the CDE file. If the threshold value
needs to be updated from a specified line test, this can be implemented by the line
test management system.
Note: The test platform 112MD has it's own threshold judgement.
After the completion of that test, the predefined thresholds are restored.

ISAM-V
The ISAM-V sends to/receives from Y-MS with intercepted traffic under the control
of MGC. So from the view of ISAM-V, Y-MS just acts as a normal call connection
termination. The signaling between MGC and ISAM-V is the standard call signaling
(MEGACO). The requirement of the signaling process is the same as for a normal
POTS call. There is no signaling interface between Y-MS and ISAM-V, the traffic
between Y-MS and ISAM-V is set up by the MGC. Y-MW does the packet
replication. ISAM-V does not need to implement packet replication function, i.e. LI
is transparent to ISAM-V. ISAM-V does not need any modification for LI when
working with A1357 system

General
This section describes the initialization of the 7302 ISAM.
After the SHub subsystem and the Intelligent Access termination, Control and
Management (IACM) subsystem are powered up, the boot sequence starts for each
subsystem.
Local NT Initialization
The following phases are identified for the local NT initialization:
• Boot phase
• Overall SoftWare (OSW) startup
• Initialization phase
• Restore data from non-volatile memory
In this phase, the LT boards boot and wait for the NT board to get their OSW.
System Initialization
In the first phase of the system initialization, the NT board detects the LT boards, the
ACU and the appliques (HW) and downloads the appropriate SW to the LT boards.
The LT boards start up with their SW and perform their specific initialisations.
After these initialisations, each LIM board sends a signal to the NT board. The
second phase of the system initialization begins when the NT board receives this
signal. Now the NT board configures each LT board.

Alcatel-Lucent 5526 AMS.
It is also possible to use local TL1 or CLI craft terminal on the NT board to manage
the LTs.
An integrated CLI approach is implemented on the NT board using an CLI agent.
This agent implements CLI commands for the NT Controller / LIMs and the SHub

4.1 Introduction
This chapter describes the different ISAM subrack types supported for the European
Telecommunication Standard Institute (ETSI) market. For each subrack, the
following characteristics are described:
• Subrack dimensions
• Physical areas
• Slot positions
• Supported plug-in units (per release).
4.2 General
The modular organization of the ISAM system allows a wide range of physical size
and traffic capacity options.
The basic building blocks of the ISAM system are the subracks or shelves(*).
(*): Both names are used for the same item.
Subrack Types
Table 4-1 gives an overview of the supported subrack types in ETSI configurations.
The subracks comply with the standards of ETSI 300 386.

Board Types
The XD splitterless subrack can accommodate the following units (Figure 4-2):
• one Alarm Control Unit (ACU) plug-in board
• two Network Termination (NT) boards
• up to 16 LIMs:
Splitters for the xDSL LIMs can not be mounted in the XD splitterless subrack
and will be put in a separate subrack.
• one NT I/O applique:
This applique is a full size board which plugs into both NT I/O connectors,
located high in the DSL cabling area of the subrack.
• one SMAS board:
This small board serves as a subrack identification resource. The SMAS stores the
system MAC addresses and ISAM ID (based on boardserialId). It is plugged into
the backplane and is delivered as an integral part of the subrack.
Restrictions
The following restrictions apply:
• The XD splitterless subrack is not equipped with a TEST/SPARE bus. When the
1:N LT redundancy and/or MTA functionality needs to be supported, the
necessary provisions need to be available in the connected splitter device (refer
to section 4.1.2).
• The XD splitterless subrack will not be ready to support 72-line boards.
1+1 NT Redundancy
NT redundancy is supported on the following boards:
• ECNT-A
• ECNT-C CB
(1 of 2)
(2 of 2)
Note
(1) For non Central Office (Class 3.1E of ETS 300 119-1) environment deployment, check with
Alcatel-Lucent whether Outdoor Cabinet LT (OD-LT) boards have to be used.
(2) The NTIO boards are shared by both NTA and NTB. The active NT takes control of the NTIO board.
Powering
Power cables are directly connected to the power filters in the connector area.
Fan Unit
One fan unit (AFAN-H) provides forced air cooling in the subrack. The fan unit is a
field replaceable unit in the subrack fan area, it plugs directly into the backplane.
There are two variants, one with dustfilter and one without dustfilter. The fan unit of
the subrack in the lowest rack position must always contain a dustfilter (see Rack
Configuration).
The XD-LT subrack is splitterless. Therefore, the splitter appliques for the LT boards
need to be housed in a separate subrack, the XD splitter subrack with Metallic Test
Access (MTA) (XD-SP) subrack.
The XD-SP subrack is supported from R2.0 on.
Mnemonic
The mnemonic is ADSL SPlitter Subrack version A (ASPS-A).
Dimensions
Figure 4-3 shows a front view.
The XD-SP subrack fits into conventional SI transmission racks (600 mm width and
300 mm depth).
Location
The XD-SP subrack can be installed in a CO or a CEV and can be deployed in remote
cabinets requiring extended temperature range operation.

Powering
Power cables are directly connected to backplane terminals in the bottom connector
area.
The XD-LT subrack is splitterless. Therefore, the splitter appliques for the LT boards
need to be housed in a separate subrack. The XD splitter subrack without MTA
(XD-PSP) is a cost-improved version of the XD-SP subrack. The main
characteristics of this subrack type are:
• The subrack has no backplane (no MTA support, no LT redundancy support).
• The subrack can house up to 16 splitter boards, one per equipped LIM in the
XD-LT subrack. Each board is able to handle 48 lines.
• The subrack is mountable in the existing ETS rack frame of an XD Modular
system (above the XD splitterless subrack) or in a standard 19” rack. By
re-orienting the mounting brackets, the subrack can be mounted in frames.

Board Types
The 7302 FD subrack can accommodate the following units:
• NT I/O boards: If not used, this slot can be occupied with LT17.
In the backpanel, there is a provision to equip a maximum of 8 uplinks on the
NT I/O. These 8 uplinks can be either 8 x 1 Gbps Ethernet or 2 x 10 Gbps
Ethernet. On the NT I/O, these uplinks are multiplexed between the 2 NTs on NT
active/standby state.
As an option, the NT I/O can be provided in a redundant way. In that case, the NT
I/O slot is equipped with an NT I/O-motherboard, with 2 NT I/O-mezzanine
boards inserted.
• NT boards: If the redundant NT is not used, this slot can be occupied with LT18,
with an additional EMC plate (5mm).
• LT boards:
16 LTs can be accommodated in splitterless mode. In Combo mode, the LTs must
be equipped in the odd positions with their corresponding splitter in the even
position. This reduces the line capacity with 50%.
HW ready for ADSL2+, SHDSL, VDSL/2 and Ethernet LT.
• Appliques:
Splitters for the xDSL LIMs can be mounted in the 7302 FD subrack in the even
slot positions. The LTs need to be put in the odd slot positions. The connection
between the LT and the correlating splitter is done via the front with a 48 pairs
connector and cable.
At the front of the splitter, there is the 48 pairs connector and cable towards the
PSTN exchange. In this configuration, there is no MTA on the splitters.
1+1 NT Redundancy
When a NT 1+1 redundant configuration is to be deployed, an NT I/O board needs
to be inserted in the subrack. The NT I/O board performs NT board protection
switching for uplinks from the 2 NT boards: only the uplinks from the active NT are
connected to the external up-link interfaces.

+45°C)
Storage
Class 1.1.
Transportation
Class 2.3.
Restrictions
On all hardware of the current release, no specific configuration restrictions need to
be applied.
Due to some fibre handling and routing issues, some limitation apply on the number
of fibres that can be supported by a given subrack type. Two types of fiber are
considered:
• Standard fibre: Ø 3 mm
• Thin fibre: Ø 1.3 mm
The following fiber handling restrictions apply:
LT 02
LT 03
LT 04
LT 05
LT 06
LT 07
LT 08
LT 09
LT 10
LT 11
LT 12

LT 16
NT A
NT B
XD-LT Standard 2 2 2 2 2 2 2 2 2 2 2 2 2 2 2 2 2 2
Thin 8 8
No LT boards are supported with optical interfaces, fiber handling does not pose any
practical restrictions for the LTs.
For fibers directly connected to the NTs (where each NT supports three Small Form
Pluggable (SFP) fiber interfaces), the following applies:
• SFPs with thin fibers (thin fibre cross-section = 1.3mm):
On the NT slots, a maximum of 16 thin fibers or 8 per NT can be wired. So no
restrictions to support the maximum of 2 NT x 3SFPS/NT x 2 fibers per SFP = 12
thin fibers
• SFPs with standard fibers (standard fibre cross-section = 3 mm):
The limit of 4 standard fibers that can be wired for the sum of the 2 NT slots gives
a restriction: that is, maximum 2 SFPs with standard fiber for the sum of 2 NTs.

This section describes which hardware modules are required to support the various
MTA functions and 1:N LT Redundancy.
The current release of the 7302 ISAM does not support 1:N LT redundancy. The
remainder of this section will therefore focus on MTA.
The 7302 ISAM system provides an integrated Metallic Test Access Unit (MTAU)
function. Both limited test-access (no test and split access) and Full test-access (no
test, loopback, monitor and split access) are supported in the current release of the
7302 ISAM.
The following modules are required to implement the MTA function:
• NT I/O board: to provide the (hardened) interface for communication between the
NT and the Test I/O applique in the splitter subrack (TAUS unit). The following
NT I/O boards support this functionality:
• ECNC-A
• ECNC-B
• ECNC-C
• NCNC-B
• NCNC-D
• Test I/O applique (TAUS) in the splitter subrack: to provide the interface to the
test head and manage the Relay Controllers on the LT appliques. The following
Test I/O board types support this functionality: TAUS-A.
• The Test/Spare bus to provide (test or protection) access to a selected line.
This spare bus is implemented on the backpanel of the XD-SP subrack.
• LT appliques in the splitter subrack, that contain the relays to set up the proper
data paths.
Table 7-4 shows for all supported LT appliques in how far MTA (SW and HW
functionality) and 1:N redundancy (HW functionality only) is supported.
Splitters supporting only outward test-access are equipped with only 1 relay per line,
while splitters supporting both inward and outward test-access have 2 relays per line.
