Music, arts and dance are undoubtedly part of the joy of humanity. These are well
known techniques of expressing emotions and communicating ideas in a creative and
non-threatening approach especially among children. Researchers worldwide would
agree that these elements could transform lives and could introduce young people to a
wide range of experiences and opportunities.
Doing art – whether music, dance, drama, painting, etc. can contribute immeasurably
to a person’s psychological well-being. Studies reveal that these can help develop
confidence, teamwork, communication and many others. Being able to go from learning
notes and rhythms to producing meaningful music instills children a sense of
accomplishment and self-confidence. Also, group performances and recitals provide a
venue for cooperation and harmony among groups of individual. Moreover, these allows
feelings and thoughts to be cultivated and communicated through nonverbal means.
Psychologists claim that self-expression through music, arts and dance can result to healing
and improvement of overall well-being.
Such activities are highly beneficial to the clients catered at the Home for Girls
considering their limited opportunities for self-expression. This would give them a great
chance to explore their capabilities while discovering creative techniques towards healing
and recovery.
The Home for Girls residents will undergo series of music, arts and dance lessons as part
of their summer activity. Instructor/ facilitators with expertise on above mentioned areas
will be invited to conduct series of sessions with the children. The activity will be done twice
a week for a period of one month. Three sessions will be allotted per area (music,
performing arts, and dance) and the final week will be the recital. All residents will be
enjoined to participate.

PROJECT BENEFICIARIES: Girl-children residents of Region 1 DSWD Home for Girls
REGISTRATION: No registration Fee
In attaining the objectives, the organizers will employ strategies such as lectures and
and workshop activities. After the three-week program, a recital will be the culmination of
the program.
The extension activity is expected to help the girl-children participants cope up with
their traumatic physical, emotional, mental, and sexual experiences. Also, the program
shall be an avenue for the residents for self-expression. This would give them a great
chance to explore their capabilities while discovering creative techniques towards healing
and recovery.
To evaluate the outcome of the program, open forum will be used to gauge
participants’ extent of learning on the different sessions. Feedback sessions will also be
done to find out the participants’ general reactions regarding the conduct of the
program. The comments and suggestions of the DSWD Home for Girls will also be noted.
Further, results of the evaluation will be the basis of improving future similar activities.
