Q.1 The water is flowing through a pipe having diameters 20 cm and 10 cm at a section 1 and
2 respectively. The rate of flow through the pipe is 35 liters/s. the section 1 is 6 m above the
datum and section 2 is 4 m above the datum. If the pressure at the section 1 is 39.24 N/cm 2. Find
the intensity of pressure at the section 2 and direction of flow through the pipe.

Q.2 The water is flowing through the pipe of diameter 30 cm. The pipe is inclined and a
venturimeter is inserted in the pipe. The diameter of venturimeter at throat is 15 cm. The
difference of pressure between the inlet and throat of venturimeter is measured by a liquid of
sp.gr. 0.8 in an inverted U- tube manometer which gives a reading of 40 cm. The loss of head
between at inlet and throat is 0.3 times the kinetic head of the pipe. Find the discharge.

Q.3 A piezometer and a Pitot tube are tapped into a 3-cm diameter horizontal water pipe, and
the height of the water columns are measured to be 20 cm in the piezometer and 35cm in the
Pitot tube (both measured from the top surface of the pipe). Determine the velocity at the center
of the pipe.

Q.4 A 300 mm 150 mm venturimeter is provided in a vertical pipeline is carrying oil of

Sp.Gr. 0.9, flow being upward. The difference in elevation of the throat section and entrance
section of the venturimeter is 300 mm. the differential U tube mercury manometer shows a gauge
deflection of 250 mm. Calculate:

(a) The discharge of oil

(b) The pressure difference between entrance section and throat section. Take cd = 0.98

Q.5 The water is flowing through the pipe of diameter 30 cm.

Q.6 Water flows through a pipe AB 1.2 m diameter at 3 m/s and then passes through pipe BC
1.5 m diameter. At C, the pipe branches. Branch CD is 0.8 m in diameter and carries one-third of
the flow in AB. The flow velocity in branch CE is 2.5 m/s. Find the volume rate of flow in AB,
the velocity in BC, the velocity in CD and the diameter of CE.
Q.7 The velocity profile in fully developed laminar flow in a circular pipe of inner radius R = 2
cm, in m/s, is given by u(r) = 4(1 -r2/R2). Determine the average and maximum velocities in the
pipe and the volume flow rate.

Q.8 Water at 10°C ( = 999.7 kg/m3 and μ= 1.307 x 10-3 kg/m · s) is flowing steadily in a
0.20-cm-diameter, 15-m-long pipe at an average velocity of 1.2 m/s. Determine the pressure
drop,
