ABOUT VNIT, NAGPUR
Visvesvaraya National Institute of Technology, Nagpur is one of the thirty
National Institutes of Technology in the country. The Govt. of India
conferred on the Institute, the Deemed to be University status (under
University Grants Commission Act, 1956 (3 of 1956)) with effect from 26th
June 2002. Subsequently, the Central Govt. by Act of Parliament (National
Institutes of Technology Act, 2007 (29 of 2007)) declared VNIT Nagpur as
an Institute of National Importance along with all other NITs. The Act was
brought into force from 15th August 2007. The VNIT is located at Nagpur,
very well known as ‘Orange City’. Nagpur is well connected to almost all
part of the country by train. The institute is about 7 km away from Nagpur
railway station and can be reached by taxis, auto-rickshaws etc.
ABOUT ECE DEPARTMENT
The Department of Electronics and Computer Science was created in 1994
from the Department of Electrical Engineering. Later, the Department of
Electronics and Communication Engineering has been created in May
2014. It offers under-graduate program in Electronics and Communication
Engineering and post-graduate program in Communication Systems
Engineering. The department has well qualified and well motivated faculty
members and support staff. There are more than 30 full time PhD students
enrolled in the department in the areas of Image Processing, Embedded
System Design, RF and Antenna Design. The department is actively
involved in R & D as well as consultancy projects and has collaborations
with several industries, academic institutes, and R&D organizations in the
country. Prof. K. M. Bhurchandi is currently serving as the Head of the
Department.
ABOUT THE COURSE
This course will provide a basic understanding of basic signal and image
processing algorithms and their implementation in Matlab. Detailed hands
on training with rigorous practical sessions and complementary lectures will
teach the participants to understand as well as implement the basic signal
and image processing algorithms. After successful completion of this
course the participants will be able to import, process and manipulate the
real life signals and images using Matlab. This course will be suitable for
UG, PG, PhD and faculties who are interested to have hands on
experience about signal and image processing using Matlab.
COURSE CONTENTS
1. Introduction to MATLAB
2. Basics of Signals & systems: Energy and power measurement
of signals. Sampling of signals. Categorisation of signals, LTI
systems & Impulse responses. Convolution & correlation.
3. Signal transform: Fourier theorem and its application for different
signals. Representation of real life signals in frequency domain.
Application of Fourier Transform for denoising.
4. Basics of Filters: Low pass, band pass and high pass filters. FIR
and IIR filters. Examples of real life filters.
5. Case studies of Signals of different domains
a. Biomedical signals : ECG & Ultrasound
b. Speech Signals
6. Basics of Digital Images, Imaging systems and Image
processing. Edge extraction, noise removal, feature extraction
from images.
7. Basics of Machine learning and computer vision.
8. Basics of pattern recognition. Classification and regression with
Artificial Neural Network using Matlab.
