1.0 Movie Summary

The film began with Chardy Hesketh being attacked by Eggsy on his way home in

a tailor shop called Kingsman. Eggsy fled Charlie and his followers in London to chase

the car, but Charlie's robotic arm was cut off in battle and stayed in Eggsy's car and

attacked Kingsman's server through the car's computer and obtained agent information.

When Eggsy was having dinner with his girlfriend and family, Poppy Adams, the leader

of the world's largest drug trafficking group, fired a missile, destroying Kingsman's

headquarters and killing all agents, except Eggsy and Merlin.

From that incident, they started to know the secret behind the Kingsman which lead

them to the Statesmen, the American counterpart of Kingsman posing as a bourbon

whiskey business based in Kentucky. There, they discover that Harry the former agent

of Kingsman also survived from head shooting by Valentine thanks to Statesman

technology, but has amnesia, which mean that it can only be cured by reliving a

traumatic event. The head of Statesman, Champagne offers them their people to bring

down the Golden Circle. Unfortunately, Statesman Agent Tequila started to develops a

blue rash and shows signs of mania, which is cause from the drug and ultimately he

being replaced by another agent, Whiskey, as Eggsy's partner.

During their next mission, Poppy broadcasts a message announcing she has added

a toxin to all her drugs which cause users to develop symptoms like Tequila's, before

succumbing to paralysis and ultimately death. She offering the antidote to the world

only if the President of the United States will end the war on drugs and grant her cartel

immunity from prosecution for the Golden Circle. The President publicly negotiates

and trying to fulfill Poppy’s demand, but secretly decides to let everyone affected die,

as he is more than happy to get rid of all drug users and put Poppy out of business.

1
They manage to track their secret hideout by planting tracking device into Clara

and they manage to get the antidote but it is accidentally broken by Whiskey during an

attack by the Golden Circle's henchmen, which leading Harry to suspect him of working

against them and breaking the sample on purpose. Harry shoots Whiskey in the head,

but Eggsy believing Harry to be delusional due to an incomplete recovery, so Eggsy

saved him. Eggsy, Harry and Merlin successful in discovering the location of Poppy's

hideout in Cambodia, "Poppy Land", and fly there.

At the Poppy Land, after facing many challenge including the death of Merlin.

They manage to secure the laptop that control the drones that are supposed to deliver

the antidote worldwide and he inject Poppy in the neck with a concentrated dose of her

own drug. Unconsciously, Poppy gives them the laptop password for the antidote and

she dies from an accidental overdose. Whiskey trying interrupts them before they can

deploy the drones, revealing that he wants all drug users to die. Eggsy and Harry fight

against Whiskey until he die, then activate the drones, delivering the antidote

worldwide.

2.0 DISCUSSION

2.1 CORRUPT: PRESIDENT OF UNITED STATES

2.1.1 Ethical Awareness:

From the movie in Kingsman the Golden Circle, there are many unethical issues

that we can spot from the movie. One of this unethical issues is corruption. The action

of one the character have make a big impact in the society. Based on argument against

business ethic, in a free market economy, the pursuit of profit will ensure maximum

social benefit so business ethic is not needed. Because of that, the character have make

a decision which is to do corruption to ensure that the world get benefit from it.

However, the benefit that he demand are not only to solve the problem but also to get

rid of a group of drug addict.

2.1.2 Awareness of Stakeholders:

The character that related to this unethical issues is the president of United Stated.

In the movie, Poppy Adams who is the richest and the biggest drug dealer telling the

world about a toxin that she put within every of her drug which will cause the user

develop a blue rash on their body and lastly facing the death through mania and

paralysis. She says that she can provide the antidote to the people only if the President

of United States agree to give the Golden Circle immunity to end the War on Drugs.

The president telling the world that he is going to agree with Poppy’s deal so that the

world can get the antidote. However, behind the people, he secretly intended to let all

the affected user die. He is not only betraying his people but also intended to let the

drug addict die in order to win in politics We can portrayed that he being corrupt

because he lie and dishonest for his own benefit. (Romano, 2017) .The president is also

shown to be a manipulative person as he willing to let the drug addicts whether they

are innocent or not to be killed in the War of Drug in order to maintain his position and

power. He is very treacherous and also a deluded person as he made no hesitation in

3
betraying and locking up Fox which is his Chief of Staff after he learn that she has been

using the drugs for stress relief.

From our observation, Mr. President do this unethical thing because he wants to

win the War on Drugs. There are two alternative that he has. First, if he agrees with

Poppy, he had to allow the used and business of the drug. Consequently, there will be

many drug addict in the world. Second, if he disagrees, he wins the War on Drugs and

there are no more drug dealer. However, the drug addict will die as they didn’t get the

antidotes.

Both of the alternative have pro’s and con which make it hard to make a decision.

Unfortunately, Mr. President rather to choose the second alternative. The president

decided to quarantines every affected user in a stadium to be locked on in order to make

it looks like he acquiescing to Poppy’s deals. Not only that, he also locked on her

secretary, Fox after she started to develop a blue rash without concerning what Fox has

been through while she became his secretary. His make the decision to make sure that

he win the war and maintain his position. We spot that Mr. President also face a

constraint in the movie. There are two persons beside him when he makes the decision.

These person are his Chief of Staff, Fox and General McCoy. These two person play an

important role to influent Mr. President when he makes the decision. As we know Fox

disagree with Mr. President to let the drug user die. However, General McCoy just agree

with Mr. President and didn’t even trying to persuade him to agree with Fox. He is the

constraints that the character face when he do the unethical behavior.

2.1.3 Ethical Reasoning:

In this movie, there are two views on how they need to solve the problems which

are Mr. President and Fox. From Mr. President’s views, the best alternative to solve the

problem is don’t agree with the contract which means that if he agree he need to give

4
the opportunity to Poppy Adams and the Golden Circle get the immunity. For him these

drug users and drug dealers only cause him a problem. If there are no drug addict the

world going to be peace. He also fell disgusting with the drug addict and using this

opportunity to get rid of them.

However, from Fox’s view, the best alternative to solve the problem is by agreeing

to Poppy Adam’s demands. Hundreds of millions people may be a drug user but we

cannot simply make a conclusion that they are a drug addict. Like Fox said, some of

them may be experimenting, use drug for medicate and kids. They are innocent people

and they deserve the antidote.

The best ethical argument that we can see is Fox’s view which they must agree

with Poppy Adams and get the antidote. As the leader of a country, they must concern

about the safety of the people and not only think about their own satisfaction. After they

agree with Poppy Adams, they can think the other way on how to take back the

immunity that they have gave to the Golden Circle. There are many law and legislation

about the use and business of drug that they can use against the Golden Circle. In this

world, it’s not only United States that have the law and legislation about the drug but

also in other country. For example, in Drug Enforcement in the United States, the

federal government have prohibits the manufacturing, distribution and also the

possession of many intoxicating substance that intended for recreational use. However

they allow the use of this drug only for the medical use (Sacco, 2014). It is true that the

president is can legally bound to execute any laws which means that the president can

help and establish the law only if he thinks that it is necessary for the country.

(McKinney, 2016). In the movie’s situation, it is necessary since it include the life of

the people around the world evenhough they are drug addict. As a president, they must

ethically do his job and always think the best way to solve the problems.

5
2.1.4 Ethical Suggestions:

From our discussion, we suggest that the president must apply Hisbah on their

system. In Islam, the role hisbah is to enforce Allah’s order to enjoin what is good and

forbid what is wrong (Noor, 2015, p. 65). People tend to forget and stray from his

responsibilities. That is why, they need someone to monitoring and reminding them

about their responsibility. To overcome the corruption in the movie, the implementation

of hisbah is needed. Hisbah does not require the creation of special institution. For

example in Malaysia we have The Malaysian Anti-Corruption (MACC) functioning as

a government watchdog to make sure and prevent the corruption, appropriation of

funds and abuse of power (Noor, 2015, p. 73). They play an important role to keep or

country clean from any corruption and it can be apply in United States.

Aside from that, the government also need to put someone that have the power,

influence and good ethical behavior to monitor every decision that had been made by

the president. He also need to stay with the president to make sure he make an ethical

decision. In the movie, both Fox and General McCoy are the person that stay with him

along the meeting. However, both of them don’t have enough power to against him.

Fox make the right decision to get the antidote for the people but unfortunately she

don’t have the power to argue and influence him to change his mind. Meanwhile,

General McCoy may able to change Mr. President’s decision by agreeing with Fox idea

but instead of doing that, he just follow whatever decision that Mr. President decided

evenhough he know that what they did is unethical and wrong.

2.1.5 Ethical Decision Making:

From our discussion, the moral principle to solve this ethical issues is ethic of care.

In ethic of care, it need to be impartial. It is used to emphasize preserving and nurturing

concrete valuable relationships. The president should care for those that dependent on

and related to him. It is because the self requires caring relationships are valuable and

6
should be nurtured. To make sure that Mr. President will not neglect his job and

responsibilities as the president, he must think of the people that he loves when he wants

to make the decision. There are three group of people that he can think of. These people

are family, Fox and the society. When the president being corrupt he must think what

will happen to them. For his family, if his secret have been exposed to society, he only

leave a burden to them. Their property will be taken, leaving bad name to his family

and also his family need to deal with media about the corruption that have been made

by the president. Second, he must care about Fox. Evenhough Fox are not his family

but she already contributing many of her time only to serves for his leader, Mr. President.

As we know Fox is also one of the drug user after she started to have a blue rashes and

learn that she has been using the drugs for stress relief. He must understand what Fox

have been through his work as Chief of Staff. It is not easy be one of it since she need

to sacrifices her time day and night only to fulfil his job. It may be quite stress for a

person and we cannot blame them if they decide to take some medicine or drug for

relief her stress. By thinking what Fox have been through, Mr. President should at least

use this opportunity to repay her by getting the antidote from Poppy Adams. Lastly, Mr.

President should care about his people. These drug users may looks like a rubbish in

the eyes of those who only think that they just a drug addict. However he must think

without their vote he will not become and get what he have right now. They may be a

burden for him in the future but they can change. Like what Fox said they may use the

drug for experimenting, medicating and so on. Because of that, Mr. President should

think of his people and carrying his responsibility as the leader of the world. By using

this ethic of care, Mr. President can think of the people that he love and about the

consequences that will affect him and the people that he loves.

Compare to reality in Malaysia, we can see this corruption have been done by many

politicians. For example, Malaysia has been riveted by the 1Malaysaia Development

Bhd (1MDB) case which included our ex-prime minister, Dato Sri Najib Tun Abdul

7
Razak. It’s involve the scandal surrounding Malaysia’s state development fund. 1MDB

was set up by Dato Sri Najib in 2009 and was meant to turn Kuala Lumpur into a

financial hub and at the same time boost Malaysia economy through strategic

investment. However, the Wall Street Journal (WSJ) reported that it had seen a paper

trail that allegedly traced close to $700 from the fund to Dato Sri Najib’s personal

accounts but he has denied all of his wrongdoings (1MDB:The case rgar has riverted

Malaysia, 2016). In the movie, the corruption involves the president of US and it’s the

same in reality which it involves our prime minister. However, the role that the president

of US had been play involve the safety and life of his citizen and people around the

world meanwhile Dato Sri Najib involve the money. Evenhough both of them doing a

different type of corrupt, but still they dishonest with their job and role as the leader of

the country.

2.2 KIDNAPPING: POPPY ADAMS

2.2.1 Ethical Awareness:

From the movie in Kingsman the Golden Circle, there are many unethical issues

that we can spot from the movie. Another unethical issue is kidnapping. Based on

arguments against business ethics, in order to achieve their goals, no business ethics is

required. Because of this, Poppy Adams made a decision to kidnap Elton John who are

her favorite singer, to achieve her purpose. Because Poppy Adam likes the singer very

much, and even built a concert hall for him. But her unethical behavior violated his

personal freedom.

2.2.2 Awareness of Stakeholders:

The character that related to this unethical issues is Poppy Adams who is the richest

and the biggest drug dealer, she kidnapped singer Alton John while Valentine kidnapped

other celebrities, turning the police to doubt about her. Poppy Adams built a concert

hall for Alton John, forcing him to play for her, even with an electric shock collar around

8
his neck. Poppy would charge him when he didn't listen to her. At the same time, Alton

took the drug-containing poison and caused a blue rash in the body. Poppy Adams also

kidnapped others for her virus experiments, using them to let the society and the

president see the symptoms after being infected. She also used antidote for Alton John

to prove to the president to threaten the president's legalization of all drugs. She says

that she can provide the antidote to the people only if the President of United States

agree to give the Golden Circle immunity to end the War on Drugs. She kidnapped

Alton John for her own hobby and even used him. We can portray that she being

unethical.

2.2.3 Ethical Reasoning:

Kidnapping is wrong and will abducting the captive, typically to obtain a money

or ransom. Sometimes kidnappers will hide their captives longer in order to demand

and get more ransom from the family or relatives of the victim. In this section, we can

see that Poppy Adams is hiding in a man-made manor in the mountains of Cambodia

because of drug trafficking. She is protected by mechanical dogs and her men, so she

has no way to public figures. This may be a reason of kidnapping Alton John, so she

can only kidnap him and let him play for herself. This is an extreme idea and is an

immoral act.

2.2.4 Ethical Suggestions:

Our suggestion for this immoral question is that Poppy Adams should not kidnap

Alton John because it is an illegal act. She violated his personal freedom and even hurt

him. However, Alton John should not use drugs to cause him stained with virus . We

should all act in accordance with the law. Kidnapping is a global and historic issue in

all of the world and good governments should to do as much as they can to ensure that

the kidnappers are captured and punished.

9
2.2.5 Ethical Decision Making:

From our discussion, the concept of a right is also one of the moral principles that

can overcome these ethical issues. The concept of right means there are some rights,

both positive and negative that all people have based only on the fact that they are

human. Legal rights confer entitlements only where the particular legal system is in free

and moral rights confer entitlements to all people regardless of their legal system. The

right of everyone to be free. So, in this movie depending on moral rights, it is

compulsory for the authorities to arrest Poppy Adams because if they allow her to do

whatever she want, she will harm other people. She can’t kidnap others because of her

preferences. The safety of everybody in the society is necessary.

We all know that kidnapping is illegal and unethical, but there are always people

who do it. Compare to reality in Malaysia, we can see that there is an ongoing risk of

kidnapping in coastal areas of eastern Sabah. Terrorist and criminal groups based in the

southern Philippines have in the past kidnapped people from these areas and further

kidnappings are likely.

2.3 DRUGS: POPPY ADAMS

2.3.1Ethical Awareness:

In film Kingsman the Golden Circle, there are several ethical issues that are

presented by the character. One of the unethical issues is producing illicit drugs. The

role plays by the character in the movie have made many of unethical behavior in order

to achieve their goals as based on arguments against business ethic stated that in a free

market economy, the pursuit of profit will ensure maximum social benefit so business

ethic is not needed. Plus, the action plays by the character obviously shows the lack of

social ethics and moral values in dealing with people or business.

10
2.3.2 Awareness of stakeholders:

From systemic level this is ethical questions about the social, political, legal and

economic systems within which companies operate. These include questions about the

morality of laws, regulations and social practice. One of the examples is about the

morality of laws which is selling and producing counterfeit illegal drugs. In this movie,

Poppy Adams has created drugs which can causes users to develop blue rashes before

progressing through mania, paralysis and after that the users will die. The action of this

character is totally unethical because providing the illicit drugs is a crime because it can

cause many negative effects and it can harm the entire world. This can include anything

from health complications, infections, legal issues, financial problems, accidental

injuries, altered brain chemistry and even death.

Next is an individual issue in business ethics which is the ethical questions raised

about a particular individual’s decision, behavior and character. These include

questions about the morality of the decisions and character of an individual. For

example, the decision makes by Poppy Adam to poisoning all of her customers with a

toxin laced within every recreational drug available that causes blue rashes before

killing them. However, she decides to give an antidote that can cures the entire world

if the president of the United States agrees on ending the war on drugs and giving the

Golden Circle immunity. Another example about the character is Poppy Adams who

exhibits the following traits which is lack of empathy and remorse, lack of conscience

and also a lack of fear. She is a sadistic person who takes pleasure in killing hundreds

of millions people and was extremely driven in her pursuit of legalizing all drugs. The

action of this character is obviously unethical which she believed her action is wrong

but she still decides to sell and produce the dangerous drugs to the society in order to

get profit and for the sake of herself. Drugs abuse is a complex issue and it has been a

serious public health problem in this movie and also in reality.

11
Compared with the movie of “Kingsman the Golden Circle” that shows many of

unethical behavior about drugs, we can also find in reality that drug is one of the serious

issues and it is difficult to handle. Statistic shows that more than 7 million people suffer

from an illicit drug disorder and one in four deaths result are from illicit drug use. In

fact, more deaths, illnesses and disabilities nowadays are associated with drug abuse

than any other preventable health condition. Taking drugs also can have a higher risk

of unintentional injuries, accidents and domestic violence incidents. Illicit drug is an

issue that continues to plague societies worldwide as for example in Malaysia, the

number of registered drug users is about 250 000 are reported in 2008. It is expected to

reach half a million by 2015 and there is also a worrying trend of high relapse rate of

50% which has consistently seen in the past decades. The major factor to drug abuse is

actually because of peer influence and curiosity. In Malaysia, opiates are the most

commonly abused drugs, followed closely by cannabis and amphetamine-based

stimulants, such as Adderall that are used to treat patients. Many severe cases have

occur due to illicit drug as for an example, four Indian nationals sentenced to death for

drug trafficking and they had faced two charges under Section 39B (1)(a) Dangerous

Drugs Act 1952. They were found guilty of trafficking 1,506.9 grams of ketamine on

the same day and at the same time. (Muthiah, 2018)

2.3.3 Ethical reasoning:

There are some factors that can determine ethical and unethical behavior such as

knowledge, values, personal goals, morals and personality. Cultural norms, internet,

family and friends are categorized as social factors. But situational opportunities can

provide an unethical behavior among people with the freedom of choice that can lead

to bad decisions. In the movie of Kingsman the Golden Circle, greed and selfishness

are the factors that lead the character in the movie to do unethical behavior. The goal

only makes she thinks about herself rather than others and end up the selfishness crosses

its limits and it turns into greedy. Greed means a selfish or excessive desire for more

12
than is needed for deserved, especially of money, wealth and possession. The character

which is Poppy Adams became greedy because she want to conquer the world. In order

to ending the war on drugs and because she want to receive the Golden Circle immunity,

she had made the wrong decision by “spreading the problems and sells the solutions”.

She makes the dangerous drugs that will cause blue rashes and the user will die. At the

same time, she provide an antidote that will heal the entire world, but Poppy Adams

will give the antidote if the president of the United States agrees to ending the war on

drugs and giving the Golden Circle immunity. To satisfy her greed, she follows the

unfair means, betrayal and crime and her action makes others life miserable. Even after

doing so much, the greed of wealth, power and possession never ends but brings fear

of losing what she have which is she fells insecure about losing the Golden Circle.

2.3.4 Ethical Suggestion:

The suggestion for unethical behavior from this movie is the character should not

make the wrong action or decision about exposing the dangerous drugs to the society.

This is because it may cause many bad effects especially to the entire world. Poppy

Adam should think wisely before doing any action either her decision may cause good

or bad to others. The authorities also have to take the right action towards people that

might hurts or do bad to others. If anyone play their roles properly, it can reduce the

action of unethical behavior among people.

2.3.5 Ethical decision making:

Solving ethical issues can be a complex process. Every step that someone need to

take will vary slightly depending on the circumstances. However, there are several of

moral principles that people can use to overcome the ethical issues. In the movie which

is Kingsman the Golden Circle, one of the best solutions to resolve the ethical issues is

using the moral principles of utilitarianism. Utilitarianism holds that what’s ethical and

moral is whatever maximizes about total happiness while minimizing total pain. The

13
words ‘total’ is important because if people act ethically according to utilitarianism,

they are not maximizing their happiness but the total happiness of the whole human

race. Basically, there are two branches of utilitarianism which is act utilitarianism and

rule utilitarianism. Act utilitarianism argues that everyone should always choose their

actions based on what will cause the greatest amount of happiness, while rule

utilitarianism argues that every people should figure out what sort of behavior usually

can causes a happiness and make it as a rule. In this movie, it should use rule

utilitarianism which is the authorities have to take an action by sending Poppy Adams

to prison. This is because in general convicts she must be punished for her crimes, even

if there is no chance that she will commit future crimes. The authorities should follow

the rules, according to this argument even if in this particular case the rule isn’t

necessary.

Next, the concept of a right is also one of the moral principles that can overcome

these ethical issues. The concept of right means there are some rights, both positive and

negative that all people have based only on the fact that they are human. Legal rights

confer entitlements only where the particular legal system is in force and moral rights

confer entitlements to all people regardless of their legal system. So, in this movie

depending on moral rights, it is compulsory for the authorities to arrest Poppy Adams

because if they allow her to do whatever she want, she will harm other people. The

safety of everybody in the society is necessary.

2.4 KILLING: GARY“EGGSY”

2.4.1Ethical Awareness:

On this section, we can see the unethical issue in this movie where Eggys killed

Whiskey. At first, Whiskey was the highest-ranking in the secret American spy agency

Statesman and a double agent who had the intention to take revenge on the drug addicts

14
in behalves of his unborn child and his late wife. Egssy and Whiskey cooperated each

other until Harry shoot Whiskey because he is a double agent. After providing him the

first that he get in the form of Alpha-Gel, the group returns to the Statesman.

2.4.2 Awareness of Stakeholders:

The stakeholder of the unethical issue mentioned in ethical awareness is Eggys.

The issue is why Eggys killed Whiskey? When arriving at Poppy Land, however,

Whiskey finds all Golden Circle members including Poppy and Charlie already dead,

and Eggsy and Harry about to open the case containing the protocol to unleash the

antidote. Whiskey betraying them by using his equipment which is lasso and throws it

around Hart's neck, aiming a gun at Eggsy while doing so. He want the suitcase,

revealing that he wants to use this opportunity to kill and destroy all of the drug users

to revenge for the deaths of his wife and unborn child. He also expects the stock price

of Statesmen Whiskey to rise after the elimination of all other drugs since people will

now depend more on alcohol for recreational purposes, which would make him and

other Statesmen agents rich.

However, before Whiskey manage to continue his plan and destroy the case, Eggsy

move faster than him and temporarily make him blind with the flash from his watch.

A battle happen between the three agents which is Whiskey, Eggsy and Harry. Eggys

killed him because Whiskey ruins their attempt to steal a cure for Poppy's poison and

is shot in the face by Harry, who realizes Whiskey is a traitor Eggys had to choose if he

do not killed Whiskey, he wants to use the opportunity to kill all drug users to bring

closure for the deaths of his wife and unborn child.

15
2.4.3 Ethical Reasoning:

On this section, we can see that Merlin do not know about Whiskey who want to

betray Eggys and Harry. Merlin had to sacrifice himself to save both Eggsy and Hart's

lives while killing a few of Poppy's soldier. The fact is Whiskey wants to use that

opportunity to kill all drug users. The stakeholders that has the strongest ethical

argument is Eggsy and Harry because they can see that Whiskey betrayed them.

Whiskey uses his lasso and throws it around Hart's neck, aiming a gun at Eggsy while

doing so.

2.4.4 Ethical Suggestions:

Our suggestion for this unethical issue is Eggsy should not smashing Whiskey into

the meat grinder. The whole of his body are grinded till it became meat. Like us at

Malaysia, we cannot make a judge or kill someone even they did wrong. We have laws

and we must follow it. Usually, we give the offenders at police and let them solve due

to our rules or laws at Malaysia.

2.4.5 Ethical Decision Making:

The best solution for this unethical issue is Eggys should let the police solve it.

This is due to the legal right. Legal right means an entitlement that derives from a legal

system that permits or empowers a person to act in a specified way or that requires

others to act in certain ways towards that person. We know that Eggys in a desperate

situation but all the decision is not at our hand. In Islam, killing animals deliberately is

also considered a great sin. It shows that murder is a major mistake. Due to M Star

online, it stated anyone who strikes, kicks, tortures, neglects or abandons any animal

may be sued for animal cruelty under the Veterinary Bill. In Malaysia, the method of

execution of the death penalty is through hanging technique. The offense of murder
16
with the intention and the offense of possession of a firearm is among acts that may

lead to a death sentence.

In the legal system in Malaysia, a person will go through a number of trials before

the death penalty is executed. The first stage is the punishment by the High Court

followed by the Court of Appeal and lastly by the Federal Court. If the three stages of

the Mahkamah decide on the guilty verdict against the accused, an appeal for remission

of offenses shall be made to the Yang di-Pertuan Agong or His Royal Highness the

Sultan or the Speaker of the State, depending on where the offense is committed. This

decision is considered final and if the sentence is retained, the court will order the Prison

Department to execute the death sentence to the offender.

A person who has been sentenced to death by court, from the legal aspects passed

by them takes a long time. The experience of Taiping Prison, found that the average

person undergoing punishment from the date of commencement of law by the high

court varies and takes years. There is a time between 1 year and 9 months and that takes

up to 7 years and 10 months.

After all the legislative process expires and the appeal to alleviate the sentencing

has been rejected by the Pardons Board, the prisoners involved will wait for instructions

to execute the sentence. When a sentence is issued by the court, the Prisons Department

will handle the execution of the sentence based on 5 phases of action.

A pardon is a jurisdiction located under a State or Governor (State) where the crime

is committed, or the Yang di-Pertuan Agong may act to pardon the criminals if the crime

17
is committed in the Federal Territory or when involving members of the armed forces.

Death sentences in Malaysia are carried out on the suspension concept as provided in

Section 281 of the Criminal Procedure Code. Pregnant women and children cannot be

put to death. There are two types of suspended sentences which are hanging suspense

and hanging suspense to death.

2.5 UNPROFESSIONAL: JACK DANIELS/AGENT WHISKEY

2.5.1 Ethical Awareness:

On this section, we can see the unethical issue in this movie where Whiskey arrived

at Poppy Land, he found all Golden Circle members including Poppy and Charlie

already dead and Eggsy and Harry happen to open the case containing the protocol to

unleash the drone containing the antidote. Whiskey used his lasso and throws it around

Harry’s neck, aiming a gun at Eggsy while doing so. He asked them to give the suitcase

to kill all of the drug user on behalves of his death wife and unborn child revealing that

he's working alone. He also expects by doing that, the stock price of Statesmen Whiskey

rise because no more drug or dealer and people will depend more on alcohol for

recreational. This issue related to business ethics. Ethics is the discipline or rule that

examines one’s moral standards and moral standards of a society to evaluate their

reasonableness and their implications for one’s life. However, business ethics is more

to specialize the study of moral right and wrong that concentrates on moral standards

as they apply to business institutions, organizations and behaviour. Arguments against

business ethics say in a free market economy, the pursuit of profit will ensure maximum

social benefit so business ethics is not needed. So as long they obey the law they will

do all that ethics requires. Due to this case, Whiskey just think about the profit. This

shows that Whiskey is very unprofessional person.

18
2.5.2 Awareness of Stakeholders:

The stakeholder of the unethical issue mentioned in ethical awareness is Whiskey.

Why? At first, yes we see that Whiskey collaborate with Eggys and Harry. Meanwhile,

inside the cabin Harry, who is still recovering tells the shocked Eggsy that Whiskey is

a double agent. Unfortunately, Eggsy does not believe it and it’s become horrible when

Harry shoots Whiskey in the head when Whiskey comes back into the cabin. After

providing Whiskey with first aid that he get from Statesman in the form of Alpha-Gel

which will ensures Whiskey's survival, the group returns to the Statesman. As Hesketh

already blown up the lab, they need another way to find an antidote.

At the beginning, they plan to get the antidote from Poppy Adams and they already

found the hideout that located in the forests of Cambodia. While Harry, Eggsy and

Merlin fly to Cambodia, Whiskey regains his consciousness in the Statesman

headquarter. His brain loss is have been reversed by Ginger Ale who traumatizes him

by showing him a photo of his dead wife. Snapping back into his real identity, Whiskey

get out of the building after learning that the group has located Poppy Adams. He flies

and follow after them, claiming that Eggsy needs backup. Whiskey did all because he

still keep revenges on the drug addicts due to the death of his wife and unborn child.

And also financially profiting from the elimination of drugs due to his shares in

Statesman Whiskey. Actually, he cannot do like that. He can use the other alternatives

like help Eggys and Harry save the world. His revenge cannot return back his wife and

unborn child.

2.5.3 Ethical Reasoning:

On this section, we know that Eggys do not know that Whiskey want to betray him

and Harry. At first, Harry told him that Whiskey is a double agent but Eggys do not

believe on Harry. Eggys realized when they at Poppy Land. Whiskey uses his lasso and

19
throws it around Harry's neck, aiming a gun at Eggsy while doing so. He demands the

suitcase, revealing that he's working alone and wants to use the opportunity to kill all

drug users to bring closure for the deaths of his wife and unborn child. The stakeholders

that has the strongest ethical argument is Harry because he can detect that Whiskey has

his own mission compared to Harry and Eggys. That’s why he said that Whiskey is

double agent.

2.5.4 Ethical Suggestions:

Our suggestion for this unethical issue is Whiskey should not uses his lasso and

throws it around Harry's neck, aiming a gun at Eggsy just to get case containing the

protocol to unleash the antidote. We can see that Whiskey is very selfish while Eggys

and Harry are trying hard to save the world. Compared with Malaysia, we have laws

and rules. We cannot make decision based on ourselves. Any decision that related with

our country just let our laws decided.

2.5.5 Ethical Decision Making:

This issue related with religious ethics. As we know, our religious do not teach us

to be selfish and ignore the others. Religious ethics are one of the moral principles that

will guide religions and that set the standard for what is and isn’t acceptable behaviour.

Surprisingly this is similar from one religion to the next, which means that these

fundamental principles flow from the core beliefs and ancient wisdom of religion. Like

Whiskey, even he knows the causes and effects, he still doing without think the other

people that trying hard to save the world. In Islam, selfish means just thinking about

their own needs and wants, do not care about the needs of others and serve only those

situations that benefit them. It stated in Al-Quran "Indeed God does not like people the

arrogant and the proud self". (QS An Nisa ': 36).

20
The characteristics of selfish are always want himself or herself to win, not care

and do not understand the feelings of others, solely disturbing the peace of the lives of

others, not like to hear the advice or criticism of others and they feel everything is

always right. Usually people like this will face a lot of troubles. One of that is it tends

to be arrogant and hated by Allah and His Messenger. So, as Muslims we should avoid

from being selfish especially when becomes a leader. Once a leader selfish, it will

affects everything. People will lose respect and country will be underestimated. Not

only that, but when people look their role model shows negative attitude, they also will

follow.

3.0 Conclusion

Morality is very important to our lives. Morality can make our behavior restrictive

and restrictive. When people lose their morality, it is very unfavorable to the social

environment. In the movie of the ace agent: the golden circle, we can learn a lot about

moral lessons, such as utilitarianism, egoism, and egalitarianism. These moral lessons

can warn us to be moral people in our lives. Meanwhile ethics is the study of morality

which means the standards that an individual or a group has about what is right and

wrong.

In ethics, there are two types of moral specified as moral standards and non-moral

standards. Moral standards is a norms about the kinds of actions that are morally right

and wrong, as well as the values placed on what is morally good or bad. Meanwhile,

non-moral standards in ethics means the standard by which we judge what is good or

bad and right or wrong in a non-moral way. Moral and ethics are the important things

in determining the nature of a society or a culture in it is used as complimentary terms

but they mean different in literal sense. Morals identify the way of individual lives and

in other words, ethics are the set of principles or the theory that decide a person’s moral

values. Individual with good morals is involved in good deeds and always knows it

inside. While a person with bad morals or doing a bad deeds may always consider it

right in adaption to the society they lives but actually, they are having bad morals. When

someone is performing a wrong deed or even a heinous crime, usually they will never

feel any shame of fear because the ethical and moral values of a person have declined.

Most of the times, it is experiences and the way a person is brought up that decide their

actions and hence their morality and ethics. From this movie, we can learn many things.

First, we can learn from the benefits and costs that they will assess the benefits and

costs of society, called utilitarianism. It is also considered to be the correct action in any

utility compared to the utility of all other alternatives (Velasquez, 2012). In the movie,

the president should not sacrifice the lives of drug addicts for his own benefit, because

the president wants to arrest the drug dealer Poppy Adams. Poppy Adams is a drug-

22
trafficking drug, and the drug trade is an illegal act that harms the health and social

environment of others. The illegal drug trade is a huge benefit for Poppy Adams. Even

the drug dealer Poppy Adams threatens the president by adding poison to drugs. Get

legal permission for drugs.

In addition, we can learn caring ethics from this film, and the president should care

about those who depend on and relate to him. When the president is corrupt, he must

think about what will happen. Fox, the chief of staff of the president, when she had a

blue rash, the president chose to keep her with other drug users. He did not assume

responsibility as a leader. He should care more about his people and the subordinate

who works for him.

Next, we can learn about the morals in the movie. The last lesson is right of concept.

When Valentine abducts other celebrities, Poppy Adams took the opportunity to kidnap

the musician Elton John in order to resolve the loneliness. Poppy Adams should not do

whatever she wants, and everyone's safety and freedom are necessary.

Besides, we can learn retributive justice in the movie, Retributive justice is where

the person who doing wrong should be punished and blamed (Velasquez, 2012). When

whiskey prevents Eggys and Harry from saving people, Eggys chooses to kill Whiskey,

although whiskey should be punished for doing the wrong thing, Eggys shouldn't kill

whiskey. He should hand it over to the police to handle the matter.

Lastly, because the wife of the whisky and the unborn child died of drugs, he chose

to retaliate against drug addicts. In addition, due to the share of politicians' whisky, he

gained economic benefits from the elimination of drugs. We can learn religious ethics

from the whole movie. Religion does not teach us to be selfish and not caring for others,

even if he knows that doing so would endanger the lives of others.
