Classification of Stars

There are many galaxies in our universe which are containing billion of stars. Stars come
in a wide varieties of size. Our sun is a medium star and other stars can be bigger or smaller.
These are basically three types of stars based on the size: small, medium and large.
The first category of stars based on the size is small stars. It usually called tiny red dwarf
star because of the size that smaller than the usual size of star. It also because the color of those
stars which usually are red. These are stars which the mass is no more than half the mass of sun.
The number of dwarf stars in Milky Way galaxy are quite big. One example of dwarf star is
Proxima Centauri. It was discovered in 1915 by Robert Innes, inside the G-cloud, in the
constellation of Centaurus. Proxima Centauri is the closest dwarf star to Earth. It has about 14%
of the sun’s size and the diameter is only a little larger than Jupiter.
The second category is medium stars. It also
known as a yellow star. A medium star is a star with a
mass about the same as the sun’s mass and also about
0,5 to 0,8 bigger. Our sun is an example of a medium-
sized star. The diameter of sun is about 1,4 million
kilometers. Although the sun is the biggest thing in
solar system, it is concerned as a yellow dwarf star and
just average compared to other stars. But when the sun
grow older, it will get bigger 300 times than the original size.
The last category of stars is large stars.
Stars that are considered large are those who
were born big and reached old age. The number
of large stars in this universe is quite few and
far away from earth. Those large stars have
some characteristics. They are hot, very
luminous, great pressure and temperature.
Large stars have shorter life than average and
small stars because they produce helium really
fast. An example of large star is VY Canis
Majoris. It is the largest star we have ever known and located in the constellation of Canis Major.
It also known as the most massive and luminous star. It has a radius of approximately
1.976.640.000 kilometers.
Those are three categories of stars based on the size. There are many stars in this universe
and they were born with various size, whether it is small, medium, or large. I think no matter
how small or big those stars are, they are beautiful and astonishing.
