For those who love strawberries, blueberries, vanilla ice cream, and patriotism,
this Jell-O will make you wish you could hit all the notes in “The Star-Spangled
Banner.” Now is the time to use that star-shaped mold. Note: This ice cream
treat is best served cold immediately after unmolding.
First Layer To make the first layer, in a bowl, sprinkle the gela-
1 tablespoon (1 envelope) tin over the cold water and allow the gelatin to absorb the
unflavored gelatin powder water for 2 minutes. Add the boiling water and stir until the
1/4 cup cold water gelatin is fully dissolved. Stir in the sugar. Refrigerate until
1 cup boiling water thickened (see page 9). Arrange the blueberries and straw-
1/2 cup sugar berries in a pattern on the bottom of a 6-cup mold, then
1/2 cup fresh blueberries gently spoon the clear gelatin over the top. Refrigerate
1/2 cup sliced fresh strawberries until the gelatin is set but not firm (see page 9).
