Jake Owen to perform at Ranger Country USA celebration

MINNEAPOLIS – Polaris, the industry
leader in off-road vehicles, is awarding Pine-
dale with the title of “Ranger Country USA”
with a celebration that will include an inti-
mate performance by country music star Jake
Owen.
To commemorate the Ranger-lifestyle em-
bodied by Pinedale, Polaris is hosting a cel-
ebration on April 12, which will include Jake
Owen’s performance, an official naming cer-
emony and donation of three Polaris Ranger
vehicles to deserving organizations.

Haskell had the opportunity to respond to
the state with another brief but chose to not
do so.
Background
Haskell, who was elected as Sublette
County sheriff in 2014 after defeating incum-
bent David Lankford, was sworn in on Jan. 5,
2015, with he and his command staff wearing
new uniforms.
At their meeting the next day, Sublette
County commissioners asked Haskell about
that uniform order and others he made for
the sheriff’s office before being sworn in and
asked the Wyoming Division of Criminal In-
vestigation to look into the transactions.
After ordering items for the sheriff’s of-
fice before he was sworn in, Haskell asked for
changes to invoices afterward to avoid paying
for them personally, according to special pros-
ecutor Michael Blonigen.
Haskell was arrested and charged in Janu-
ary 2016 with three felonies – obtaining prop-
erty by false pretenses, buying or receiving
wrongly received property and making a false
claim with intent to defraud in connection
with uniforms and badges. He was charged
with two misdemeanors – performing a duty
before being qualified to do so and committing
an unauthorized act as an officer.
Circuit Court Judge Curt Haws moved the
case up to Ninth District Court, where it was

To celebrate building its one-millionth
Ranger utility side-by-side vehicle, Polaris
kicked off the search for “Ranger Country
USA” with Owen. The two-month campaign
featured video profiles devoted to five towns
from across the United States, including Pine-
dale, and asked consumers to vote for the town
Steven Cranfill. Haskell pleaded not guilty to
all charges in March 2016.
Before the trial occurred, the county in-
stigated a civil proceeding for misconduct in
Ninth District Court that saw Haskell, who had
continued to work daily, removed from office.
Several trial dates were set and resched-
uled; the trial eventually began on Feb. 20
with jury selection from a pool of 100 Sub-
lette County citizens. Potential jurors were all
asked if – and swore to – hear the case through
without judgment.
Earlier, Blonigen had offered Haskell a
change of venue, which is a request only
the defendant could make. Haskell declined,
saying he wanted to be tried by a jury of his
peers. The jury of 12 found him guilty of three
felonies and one misdemeanor, with the fifth
charge dismissed by Judge Cranfill.
On July 27, 2017, Judge Cranfill sentenced
Haskell to two prison terms of three to five
years and a third of one to two years, to be
served at the same time. He also ordered a
$1,000 fine for the misdemeanor.
The judge then suspended the prison terms
for Haskell’s successful completion of five
years of supervised probation, to run at the
same time.

After three weeks of voting, Pinedale, was
voted “Ranger Country USA.” Corning, Ar-
kansas; Darlington, Wisconsin; Spring Creek,
Nevada; and Stephenville, Texas, were among
the four other towns vying for the title and were
awarded for their participation in the campaign
with three Ranger vehicle donations this past
week.
Sublette County residents are invited to at-

In order to vote or run for council seats,
residents inside Pinedale’s municipal lim-
its must register to vote with the Sublette
County Clerk’s office.
To register, a voter must meet the follow-
ing qualifications:
• Be a citizen of the United States;
• Be 18 years or older on election day;
• Be a resident in Wyoming and the pre-
cinct in which you register;
• Present a valid Wyoming driver’s li-
cense if you have one and if not, provide the
last four digits of the voter’s Social Security
number;
• Not been convicted of a felony, or if
convicted, has had civil or voting rights re-
stored; and
• Not been declared mentally incompetent
by the court system.

care patients that need additional time in
the CAH beyond the 96-hour limited stay.
The swing beds will fill the gap for those
Medicare patients having intense medi-
cal needs of post-acute care available in
the CAH. Patients who need longer term
post-acute care will be transferred to the
local skilled nursing center, (Sublette
Center), thus providing a local continuum
of care. The Sublette Center currently
serves Medicare patients who are rehab
intensive, and the typical average length
of stay is about 20 days. The proposed
CAH swing bed program is not intended
to keep swing bed patients for that length
of time. In fact, in the financial feasibility
study, only 50 swing bed patient days are
estimated for the first year, which is only
four patient swing bed days per month.”
The letter concluded by saying, “The
fact is, due to the surgical services pro-
posed for the CAH, there will most likely
be an increase in the number of patients
needing the services of the Sublette Cen-
ter.” n
