Queen’s Speech at the State Opening of Parliament in October or November. Therefore,


it is commonly said that ‘Parliament is sovereign’. Discus the meaning of this statement
and the various sources of UK Laws .
Every new proposed law is known as ill in UK.oth the Houses of Parliamnet and Royal
Assent from Queen is necessary to pass a law in the parliament.til today the queen agve
Royal Assent to 3135 ills of parliament.Till the end of 17th century the monarchs of ritish
were executives one thats means they have the power and right to make and pass new
laws ut from 18th century ritish monarch started to act as a constitutional
monarch.Therefore, it is commonly said that ‘Parliament is sovereign’
uk consists of four countries they are England,Scotland,Northern Ireland and
Wales.Some law is applicale to the whole nation some are applicale only for specific
county or countries mentioned aove.
The principle sources of UK laws are
a. Statutes
The origination of statutes is from parliament.An example of statutes is Equality
Act 2010.Statutes starts witha green paper which is usually known as
consultative paper.Draft statutes which is usually written on white papers is
presented efore parliament and then this draft white paper is known as ill.After
getting the consent of royal memeer it ecomes law in the uk.

Legislature creates legislation.UK parliament in london is the principal of
legislature.UK parliament has the authority to pass laws and apply that in four
countries.Uk parliament consists of two groups House of Commons and House of
Lords.
House of Commons generally have 650 memers of parliament.any candidate who
has the highest numer of electors vote is elected as MP.there is a discussion over
changing this voting sysytem and and introduce an alternative voting system if
this happens then there will e 600 memer of constitutres.

800 peers consist the House of Lords and among them 600 are apponted y the
queen through her recommendation to the Prime minister.people who have
inheited aristocratic titles usually are the other memers of the house of lords.
c. Common law
in uk commomn law generally refers the legal system of England and Walesfrom
the 11th century onwards.in common law the judge has the authority to
interpret the law according to unique circumstances.
d. Eu law
one of the memer of European union ins UK and for this reason sometimes Eu
law gets importance over Uk law as the directives which are approved y all the
EU memer country cominely has to apply each memer states national law.
e. The Europen convention of human rights
Human rights Act 1998 came in UK in effect in 2000as uk is thememer of the sate
council of euorope and signed the european convention of human rights.
