Testing And Adjusting
Important Information
When tests and adjustments are made to the transmission, the parking
brake must be OFF. To prevent movement of the machine and personal
injury do the procedure that follows.
1. Lower all implements to the ground.
2. Put blocks in front of and behind the wheels.
3. Install antipivot pin in the locked position.
4. Remove the axles from both tandems.
5. Let only approved personnel on the machine and keep other personnel off of the machine and in clear view
of the operator.
NOTE: All tests and adjustments must be made with the oil in the power train hydraulic system at normal
temperature for operation. Make sure that the linkage adjustments are correct before any tests are made.

Transmission control linkage adjustment should be made only with the
engine OFF. Accidental transmission engagement and sudden machine
movement could cause personal injury.
Speed and Direction Cables
1. Be sure all of pins (4) for the ends of the cables are in slots (3) of the valve spools.
2. Make an adjustment to nuts (2) on the ends of the cable housing so the extension of the threads on both
sides is the same.
SPEED AND DIRECTION CABLE CONTROLS
1. Selector lever. 2. Nuts. 3. Slot. 4. Pin.
3. Put selector lever (1) in the REVERSENEUTRAL position. Remove the front cover for the controls.
4. Remove the bolt and lockwasher that holds the end (5) to the lever (6).
5. Pull up on the end of the cable as far as it will go. Make an adjustment to end (5) until the hole in the end
is in alignment with the hole in lever (6).
DIRECTION CONTROL ADJUSTMENT

6. Put selector lever (1) in the FORWARDNEUTRAL position.
7. Push down on the end of the cable as far as it will go. If the hole in end (5) is not in alignment with the
hole in lever (6), use the following procedure:
a. Measure the total distance that the holes are out of alignment.
b. Make adjustment to end (5) until it is onehalf the distance out of alignment.
DIRECTION CONTROL ADJUSTMENT
5. End. 6. Lever.
8. Install the lockwasher and bolt in end (5) and lever (6).
9. Remove the bolt and lockwasher that holds the end (7) to the lever (8).
10. Push down on the end (7) of the cable as far as it will go (the selector spool will be in EIGHTH speed).
Now pull up on the end of the cable until four detents are felt (detents for SEVENTH, SIXTH, FIFTH, and
FOURTH speeds). The selector spool is now in FOURTH speed.
11. Put the selector lever (1) in the FOURTH FORWARD position and be sure the lever is in the center of the
notch.
SPEED CONTROL ADJUSTMENT
7. End. 8. Lever.
12. Make an adjustment to end (7) until the hole in end (7) is in alignment with the hole in lever (8).
13. Install the lockwasher and bolt in end (7) and lever (8).
14. Check the position of lever (1) in all of the speeds in FORWARD and REVERSE. Make another
adjustment to end (7) if necessary.
Control Cable For Manual Modulation Valve
1. Remove the cover for the control housing.

PEDAL FOR MANUAL MODULATION VALVE
1. Block. 2. Pedal.
2. Put a block (1) between pedal (2) and the floor plate so the horizontal portion of the pedal is parallel with
the floor plate.
3. Push down on end (3) against the resistance of the spring for the valve spool. Make an adjustment to end
(3) until the hole in the end is in alignment with the hole in lever (4).
CABLE FOR MANUAL MODULATION VALVE
3. End. 4. Lever.
4. Install the lockwasher and bolt in end (3) and lever (4). Remove block (1).
5. Make an adjustment to screw (5) until it is all of the way down.
PEDAL FOR MANUAL MODULATION VALVE
5. Screw.
This part of the adjustment procedure must be done with the axles
installed and the engine running. Keep all personnel away from the
working area and let only one person on the machine.
6. Install the axles and start the engine.

7. Hold down on pedal (6) and put selector lever in FIRST FORWARD.
PEDAL FOR MANUAL MODULATION VALVE
5. Screw. 6. Pedal.
8. Slowly release the pedal until the wheels start to turn. Make an adjustment to screw (5) until it comes in
contact with pedal (6) in this position. Tighten the locknut.
9. Put the selector lever in NEUTRALFORWARD and turn screw (5) in one turn. Tighten the locknut.
10. Push down on pedal (6) and put the selector lever in all FORWARD and REVERSE speeds. If the
machine begins to move in any speed, loosen the locknut and turn screw (5) in one more turn.
