Animated and Musical Fountains

We receive frequent requests for dynamic water features and would like to provide
you a brief introduction to our products and systems. Our experience extends across over 4,000
projects and sales, with hundreds of musical and animated fountains. These range from small
residential projects through very large show fountains

In our terminology an “animated” fountain is one that has water heights or color lighting that vary over
time. A “musical” fountain builds upon this by synchronizing these effects to music through
programmed choreography.

Animated fountains once used a motorized cam switch to cycle pumps or mix light colors. This was
followed by the more flexible approach of a Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) which could run a
stored program and make its switch closures less predictable or allow some degree of control over
the sequence or speed. This still limited the flexibility of the project as major changes required a field
visit by a programmer. For over thirty years, variations of our PC based ACCESS system has put
flexible system control, choreography and scheduling back into the hands of the customer.

Musical fountains need tight choreography between the music and the fountain resources of pumps
and lights, but it also needs the ability to develop and edit that choreography productively and by
average individuals. We want our customers to be self-sufficient. You do not need Atlantic Fountains
to be able to add new material to your fountain or to change when it is played. The feature set of our
software is robust and its advantages are discussed on following pages.

Like a human body, a musical project has higher brain functions (PC), a nervous system (data
control) and motor functions (pumps and lights). While some build musical fountains by switching
pumps and lights on and off, we feel that fully variable water and light is much more musical. This
allows us to supply enjoyable systems from modest residential projects with a handful of different
sprays through world class show fountains.

Variable speed pumps provide a desirable alternative to valves in most systems. The pump and
nozzle combination can be simply set into the pool, eliminating almost all plumbing and providing a
system that can usually be rearranged or upgraded at a later date without penalty. Provide us with a
pool diameter, a budget number and an idea of what you want the system to accomplish for you, and
we will go to work and provide you with a balanced configuration.

Regardless of the technology, we will give you value. It is all a matter of finding a balance between
your budget and the effects you desire to see. We have provided components to the hobbyist as well
as multi-million dollar show fountains. All are welcome.

The Fountain of Living Waters

Forgive us a little nostalgia but here is how it all started in 1980.

The Mount Vernon NY Roundabout has a rich heritage Municipal Musical Fountain – Mount Vernon NY
with the city of Mount Vernon and its citizens.
The memorial statue was made in 1927 from metal
recovered from the USS Maine. Viewed by thousands
each day, it is a beautiful gateway to downtown.

Seven choreographed fountains greet you at this
beautiful residential fountain. Multiple variable pumps
and lights respond to the computer and a wireless
remote. A second system behind the house provides a
choreographed cascade.

Indoor Casino Fountain

Mylar strands and 2,500 GPM sprays are illuminated by 67 color-
changing LED fixtures. The result is a beautiful panorama of color
across the water and ceiling, blended to 16 million shades.

 Bombay Dreams Musical New York City

Custom fountain for the Andrew Lloyd Webber

Broadway musical. The system uses multiple variable
speed 3 hp pumps feeding a distribution manifold. 25
high-speed proportional valves then feed an array of
nozzles. The mesh flooring over the 15 foot diameter
pool lowers into the pool for aquatic dance numbers.
Combined with underwater lighting and the multi-million
dollar lighting system and powerful strobes in the
theater, the result is spectacular!

Love Fountain

The Love Fountain began as a charity effort, but has received so much positive interest that it has
achieved product status. Built with 25 pumps and 26 color LED fixtures, the project adds a large
number of vertical smoothbore and frothy columns to four arch nozzles.

The system can be supplied with a fiberglass pool, or with a rubber liner for portable applications.

Matrix Fountains

Rather than use a variety of different

types of sprays, a matrix fountain uses
an array of similar sprays to form
geometric shapes.

A matrix can be made in square or

hexagonal layouts.

Systems can be scaled across a range

of horsepower with 1/4hp single phase
pumps capable of sprays to 15 feet and
larger 1.5 hp systems capable of
heavier sprays to 25 feet or more.

Single phase pumps offer economy

while three phase solutions with high
powered LEDs provide the ultimate in
accurate water control and brightness.

Metropolis Mall

The centerpiece of the Futura Plaza in Plainfield Indiana is the Metropolis musical fountain. Within its
30 ft diameter is a 28ft center geyser and other variable sprays including: aerators, clusters, smooth
bore, fans, twirl jets, crystal arches, 3-tiers, leaping laminars, plus 8 and 26 foot spray rings.

Lighting includes dozens of coordinated RGB LED fixtures. The fountain computer provides timing
data to integrate hundreds of additional LED light fixtures on the towers & buildings for a fantastic
environment of color.

Show Fountains

In 1980 our first musical design began

automatic day and evening performances
that continue to this day.

Since that time we have delighted countless

thousands of people with our animated and
musical projects.

These pictures are of our large Three Rivers

Fountain in Culiacan Mexico. This is a large
fountain with 120 control channels operating
57 pumps and 50,000 watts of color fixtures.

Some products on the market rely on extensive piping structures to supply their spray patterns.
These systems neither fade their lights or their sprays. This requires switching blocks of pumps on
and off to achieve different effects. We contend that fully variable water and light is both more
musical and inherently easier to choreograph. And, because our systems include proportional wind
control, it is also not required to compose different pieces of choreography to handle windy days. The
same show runs, just scaled for conditions.

With the advent of LED technology, fountain lighting is undergoing a fundamental shift. LEDs are
faster, more efficient and last longer than their incandescent ancestors. Atlantic Fountains has been
quick to incorporate these components and are proud to present what we feel is the state of the art in
show fountains.

Atlantic Fountains is a leader in the application of high powered LED technology and was chosen as
the supplier for the restoration of the historic Denver City Fountain shown below. Utilizing (112 ) 70

Show Fountains – Lexus, Escondido California

The Lexus fountain was designed to provide an attractive highly-visible animated entry feature during
the day. At night, it becomes a beautiful musical fountain for the magnificent Vintana restaurant on
the third floor overlooking the fountain. The three tier stepped waterfall pool stretches over 150 feet
making the Lexus Centre without peer in Escondido and in all of southern California.

System equipment includes:

Show Fountains – Famma Events, Puerto Rico

The challenge with the Aqua show was not only to make it spectacular, but to make it portable.

The system has 36 pumps, 39 LED fixtures and is driven by ACCESS 4 software.

Pumps and LED fixtures are cable connected and plug into their respective control units under the
main stage.

The show ran for months with sold out performances and then began a tour across the Caribbean and South
America.

Large Show Fountain

The eleven section layout with an additional front circle of twelve moving nozzles is shown. Within are 99
pumps, 202 LED fixtures and 852 nozzles. Along the top edge is the 80 jet spray curtain. Below this are eleven
zones of sprays alternating around ten programmable sway racks. Smaller systems omit the outermost
sections, but even entry level systems preserve most spray types. As we are not bound by a piping structure,
the entire system can be spread out to cover a larger area as needed or desired.
