Procedure Chemical Reaction Observation Inference Name and structure of
product
1. Add 2cm3 of
Potassium
Dichromate to
1cm3 of ethanol
in a test tube.
Then add 2cm3
of dilute H2SO4
to the test tube.
Place test tube in
a warm water
bath and allow
the reaction to
occur for 10
minutes.
2. Repeat
procedure 1
using Potassium
Manganate

3. Add 2cm3 of
Ethanol and
1cm3 of Glacial
Ethanoic acid to
a test tube. Then
add 3 drops of
concentrated
Sulphuric Acid
to the test tube
carefully then
gently warm for
a few minutes in
a water bath.
Pour the product
carefully into a
beaker
containing
sodium
carbonate
solution and not
the smell.
4. Add 1 cm3 of
ethanol to
concentrated
Sulphuric Acid
and bubble the
gas evolved into
an acidified
solution of
potassium
manganate.
