Exceptional Leader
With letters of light, the world has historically awarded His
Highness Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, the
Amir, the title of "Prince of Humanity." This title mirrors His
Highness numerous initiatives and unprecedented noble
deeds all over the world. His good works were extended
to people from East, West, North and South irrespective to
religion, nationality or ethnicity. He became the peacemaker
and carrier of love, help and aid.
The name of Kuwait has always been connected to major
humanitarian efforts, and culminated in His Highness era.
Consequently, selecting Kuwait as an international and
world center represents Kuwait high esteem on the world
stage.
The worthy Humanity Leader title is a source of pride and a
strong push for us to do more for our beloved Kuwait which is
now a world trade-mark in works of charity. We are blessed
with our humanitarian and unique leader.
On behalf of myself and KOTC employees, I extend my
dearest congratulations to His Highness Sheikh Sabah Al-
Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, the Amir, for the achievement.
We pray to God to keep Him the supporter of the poor all
over the world.
Happy Eid
Eid Al-Adha is around the corner. It is the time of joy,
reconciling love and goodness to everyone. Happiness is
part of every human heart, and Eid is an inspiring occasion
where old and young meet at the table of love, loyalty and
brotherhood.
In Eid Al-Adha, all eyes look towards Makkah, where millions
of Moslems fulfill Islam's fifth pillar, to pay pilgrimage to the
holy Mosque.
On this happy occasion, we extend our congratulations to

As part of his support for the
national competent employees
and encouragement of the
devoted and loyal youth, KOTC
CEO Sheikh Talal Al-Khaled Al-
Ahmad Al-Sabah honored a group
of security personnel in KPC for
their distinguished role they had
when a vehicle crashed into the
KPC security fence and broke
Gate 1. They managed to control
the situation, capture the driver
and summon the police officers
until a case for the incident was
registered.
Sheikh Talal Al-Khaled said that
we are proud of the security
personnel's role in KPC, and their
handling of this extraordinary
incident during this event. He
said that their courage and good
conduct deserve our full support
as well as for those who show
devotion and sacrifice for Kuwait.

to apply what she had learned

about how she did join KOTC, the
nature of her work and about her
future ambitions.
• Introduction:
My name is Dana SabahAl-Akhond,
joined the Insurance Department.
I graduated from Gulf University
for Science and Technology with
a high honorBachelor’s degree
in business administration –
accounting and a holder of a
master’s degree in business
administration. After graduation,
I worked in a bank experiencing
its various departments through
an internal rotation then I was
assigned as an accountant in the
financial group.
• How did you join work at
KOTC?
I applied for a job at KPC online
when it published an advertisement
offering graduates with business
majors a chance to work at KPC
or one of its subsidiaries. After
successfully passing the English
test, major test, and the interview,
I was selected to work at KOTC.
• What attracted you to work
with KOTC?
Working with KOTC gives me the
chance to apply what I have learnt
in the university in one of the most
important sectors in Kuwait.
• How about your impression

In the first days of work here
I was very interested in our
company’s activities and I was
looking forward to start working
and be an effective member of
this company. I was also very
pleased to see the cooperation
between my colleagues which
was interpreted to me as having
a good team to work with. Since
I joined KOTC, I have gained a
lot of experience in relation to the
oil industry in general, and about
insurance in specific.
• Do you remember the persons
who extended a hand to you at
the beginning?
All my colleagues have been
very helpful since I joined their
department. Their mentorship,
support and encouragement
are motivating me to keep
on improving my skills and
knowledge.
• How about the nature of
your work at the Insurance
department?
I’m assigned here as a hull &
machinery insurance analyst.
Nevertheless, I’m also involved

inthe other divisions of my
department which includes
protection & indemnity and group
life. Currently, my tasks include
handling a set of claims, insuring
our vessels through their routes,
in addition to taking part in the
preparation for policies renewals
and several other tasks related to
the department.
• How about your ambition at
the company.
I’d strive for learning as much as
I can in relation to our company’s
field of work. In addition, I believe
that we’re never too old to learn.
We should continuously improve
our skills for enhanced productivity
and better performance which
leads to a greater benefit for
KOTC. In addition, achieving
efficiency in our tasks is one of
my main goals. I will put great
effort in order to achieve that goal
which in turn will reflect on our
daily operations. At the end, it is
time for us now to give back to
our beloved country through hard
work and dedication to maintain
a healthy economy and preserve
an organic growth.

The Ordeal of Father of Prophets and Farewell Pilgrimage
Two Scenes Mark the Happy Occasion
Eid Al-Adha – the School of
Wisdom and Meanings
Eid Al-Adha is a major religious
rite that has great significance
and solemn meanings with
many moral lessons to be
learned. The Muslim people do
not merely celebrate by being
happy and ornamentation,
but they use the occasion to
meditate its meaning and follow
on its reason and purpose.
The first noble meaning of Eid
Al-Adha is the ordeal of the
father of prophets Ibrahim who
did see himself in his dream
slaughtering his son Ismail
(pbuh). Ibrahim did not do it
in secrecy, but rather share
his son: "My son, I see myself
slaughtering you in my dream,
what shall you do…," Al-Saffat
– 102.
No doubt he knew the answer
of his son to this grave question
which freezes the blood in
one's veins. And the son gives
the reply of a true believer "My
father, do what you have been
told and you shall find me a
patient man," Al-Saffat – 102.
This reply would have caused
the head hair to turn white,
but they were prophets and
the strength of their faith was
enough. However, Allah, for
a certain reason, gives and
takes the blessing, and He is
so merciful. After seeing that
Ibrahim had the faith, Allah
wanted to keep his son to
breed the greatest prophet,
Muhammad (pbuh), “When
he held his head … We called
him and said: Ibrahim.. the
vision has come true.. this is
bad… and we sacrificed him
for a great slaughter,” Al-Saffat
– 103-107.
The second noble value of
Eid Al-Adha is the Farewell
Pilgrimage when the Prophet
(pbuh) gave his universal
speech and put the greatest
humanitarian law that
follows Allah’s instructions.
His precious words were
collective, precise and bled
the hearts of the believers.
They listened to him in his last

speech, but before conclusion,
he reassured them: “I left
something inside of you, if you
follow it, you shall never lose
your way, it is the Book of Allah
and the law of His Prophet.”
The Prophet (pbuh) started his
speech by saying: “People,
listen to what I shall say as
I may not see you again….
Your blood and money are
prohibited until the day you
face Allah,.. when you shall be
asked about what you have
done. This is my message.”
The Prophet (pbuh) had
conveyed his message to all
Muslims until the judgment day.
Will they follow this message
today? And are we, Muslims,
follow this great rite the way
it was held by our ancestors?
Do we get its meaning and
the numerous blessings of his
Almighty? And shall we apply
the contents of the Farewell
Speech by us, families and
societies?

heat, dust and humidity.
What experience you have
gained throughout your work
with KOTC?
I have gained great experience
during my time with KOTC and by
moving between different positions
in the Marine Agency. I worked as a
switch board from 1987 to 1990 then
moved to Ship Service Department
from 1990 to 2008, after which I was
promoted in 1996 to Shift Supervisor
in the same Department. After that
I moved to the Travel Department
as the Agency's Travel Supervisor
from 2008 to 2012. On 2012, I was
transferred and promoted to Senior
Controller – Stores & Custom, a
position which I am still in till this
day, but with a slight change in title,
where it became Senior Analyst –

Tell us about the challenging
situations you were faced with
during your service in KOTC
One situation I shall never forget
when I was working at the Tanker
Service Section. It was a windy with
rough sea and high waves of up to
7 or 8 feet when we received an
emergency call from a foreign tanker.
It was just 4 nautical miles away
after disembarking from the North
Pier in Al-Ahmadi Port. We were
informed about the fall of the Head
Engineer from a high place and of a
double fracture in his right thigh. The
supervisor on duty asked me to take
a doctor and a boat immediately.
We rushed to them and the boat's
front was sinking and rising through
the high waves. It was terrifyingly
throwing us around, but we were
able to complete the journey to save
the man. Thank God, we returned
safely after we carried the injured
man with us on the boat and did
what needed to be done.
What about working in KOTC
during the brute Iraqi invasion of
Kuwait?
KOTC opened a temporary office in
the UAE to manage its affairs during
the brute Iraqi invasion of Kuwait,
where our tankers' activity was
not ceased at that time, contrary
to the Company's work inside
Kuwait which was at complete halt.
Therefore, I did not work during that
time, but volunteered in the Kuwaiti
Army. And it is a pure coincidence
that Sheikh Talal Al-Khaled Al-
Ahmad Al-Sabah, the current CEO,
was a volunteer in the same camp
with us.
Who are your colleagues and
long-time friends at KOTC with
whom you have strong bonds?
I have a good relationship with
everyone I know, thankfully, and I
would rather not mention any names
because my long-time friends are

well aware of themselves and of
our strong bond inside and outside
work.
What do you think of the current
Kuwaiti staffs in KOTC?
The current Kuwaiti staffs are
talented; they need the opportunity
and support to prove themselves,
and the Company must evolve their
skills and abilities and preserve its
competencies and give them space,
because this will bring benefit to the
Company and the homeland.
What are the advices you would
give to KOTC employees?
To listen closely to your seniors at
work, perfectly perform the required
assignments, loyalty, respect
other opinions, show team spirit
with colleagues, and to have the
Company's success as their goal,
because it is a success for us all.
How do you see the past and
present communication between
the Company's employees?
The employees, naturally having
good relations with each other, were
and are still communicating. The
modern technology means have
recently contributed in increasing
the closeness and bonding, which
made all employees one family.
Had you not joined KOTC, where
would you have worked?
My wishes were to either work in
any of the sister oil companies, or
in the Kuwaiti Airlines. Eventually
I was destined to work at KOTC,
thank God.
What about your future plans?
I aim to continue my path, work hard
and prove myself to my superiors
so if I am destined to get in a higher
position than I am right now, it will
be well deserved.
In conclusion, what would you
like to say?

Head of Fleet Quality & HSE
Section, joined KOTC in 1999
as a student in the marine
scholarship. He studied the
maritime sciences in South
Tyneside College, U.K, and
got Second Officer Certificate,
then Senior Captain Certificate
and Overseas Captain from the
Arabic Academy for Science,
Technology and Marine
Transport, Egypt.
Al-wazzan worked on deck
of KOTC fleet in 2003 as a
Third Officer at the products,
crude and LNG tankers. His
journey as a sailor ended
after promotion to a Senior
Officer. In 2012, he joined the
administrative works at the
Quality & HSSE Group at the
head office as the Head of
Fleet Quality & HSE Section.
Yacoub Al-Wazzan believes
that his years at the overseas
Fleet deck were the most
important part of his life when
he acquired experience,
learned discipline and for 10
years met people of various
nationalities. He has a rich
memory of good and bad
events, from pacific days to
stormy seas with strong waves
that mercilessly hit the tanker.
Al-Wazzan says that work in
the sea helped him a lot in his
administrative work as a Ship
Auditor at Fleet Quality & HSE
Section. He was persistent
in continuing education and
developing his skills until
he got the certificate of First
Auditor for quality ISO9000,
environment ISO14000 and
health & safety ISO18000,
and certificate of Ship Safety
Administration Auditor.
He also participated in several
conferences and training
courses, both inside and
outside Kuwait.

Factory & Agency Purchasing Engineer, and now Senior Engineer
- Purchasing in Purchasing & Contracts Department.

Humanity Leader
One of the most prominent examples of humanitarian
giving in our modern times is probably His Highness
Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, the
Amir. His unprecedented humanitarian initiatives and
contributions reflect the true nature of the Kuwaiti people
as well as the noble principles of Islam. Whenever the
international diplomacy is mentioned, the name of HH
Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, the Amir,
comes first. Kuwait's name has always been connected
with the world major initiatives that have peaked during
the era of His Highness.
In this regard, the selection of Kuwait by the United
Nations as a "World Humanitarian Center" and naming
HH Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, the
Amir, as the "Leader of Humanity" were in appreciation
of Kuwait's role and high esteem at the world level,
which was achieved through the wisdom of His
Highness.

salute the wise leadership for this achievement. Our
congratulations go also to the Kuwaiti people and the
Islamic nation.
