School: Sas Al nakhal school Date: 25 – 10 – 2018

PST: Nawar Rashed Alzaabi Time: 8:20 – 9:05

MST: Amna Al Zaabi Unit: Plants

Class: Number
1/ A of 25
Students:

Prior Knowledge:

- Students already know parts of the plant, and the job for each part, also the students know about the seed and
its parts.

Lesson Objectives:
- By the end of the lesson, the students will be able to describe the life cycle of a plant from a seed forward.
- By the end of the lesson, the students will be able to tell how plants can grow from seeds and other plant parts
- By the end of the lesson, the students will be able to plant a seed and observe the its growth

Lesson Activities:

Opening

- First, I will gather the students on the carpet, then I will ask them questions to tap into their prior knowledge
1- What are the parts of a plant?
2- What are the parts of a seed?
3- How do you think seeds grow?
- After that I will show them a video of how seeds grow, and I will pause the video ask questions, check
understanding, ask the students for predictions, and introduce keywords.
- After the video I will ask the students about what they saw and what the seed needs to live and what harms the
seed.

Experiment:

- I will plant a seed with my students, first I will show the students the different types of seed that I collected,
each zip lock bag will have the name and picture on it.
- Second, I will show the students the materials I will use in the experiment (cotton, water, seed, zip lock bag or
plastic bag).
- Third, I will create a false experiment with all the don’ts (too much water, no water, no light) and I will explain
why we should not do that, then I will demonstrate the experiment correctly showing the students how to plant
a seed.
- Finally, I will send the students to their groups, and distribute the materials, I will observe and help the students
plat the seed and when they are done, I will write their names on the bag and tape it to the class window.
- I will send the students to the carpet, and devide them into two groups and ask them to write/ draw on the A3
paper their prediction of what will happen to the plant.

Explanation:

- Then I will open the PowerPoint on the data show, and I will explain the life cycle of a plant, and how we are
going to observe our seeds to see the life cycle.
- I will state the number of stages and the names of the seed during each stage.
- I will discuss the following questions with the students:
1. What happens when a seed gets what it needs? It grows into a plant
2. What does a life cycle show? it shows how the plant lives and grows and dies
3. What will the seed grow to look like? They will grow to look like the plant they came from
- I will show the students how a plant could also grow from the parts of the same plant as the coleus plant
leaves.
- I will allow the students to predict how the plant will grow and then I will show them pictures to explain what
happens.
- I will make sure the students understand that plants can grow in different ways.

Evaluation / Assessment: How will you know your students have achieved the goal?

- I will see their posters and through them I will assess the students who have full understanding of the process
and the students who don’t.

Personal focus: Related to PDP

In this lesson I am working on my teaching skills, I want to teach a full lesson and explain instead of just making
activities for the students.
