6. Sep 26- World Contraception Day was observed throughout the world to create awareness of

throughout the world to create public awareness on nuclear disarmament matters, educate

9. Sep 25- UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres declared 2019-2028 as the “Nelson Mandela
Decade of Peace” at the UN headquarters in New York. This took place at the Nelson Mandela

peace summit honouring the South African leader at the UN. He also unveiled statue of Nelson
Mandela at the UN marking the 100th anniversary of Mandela’s birth.
10. Sep 22- Rose Day is observed on all over the world every year who are battling cancer
11. Sep 22- Assam government has decided to observe September 22 as “Rhino Day”.During the
10th meeting of the State Board for Wildlife Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal
expressed the idea to make people aware about the importance of Rhinos.

23. Sep 2-World coconut day was celebrated all over the world. This day highlights the
importance and uses of coconuts. In India, World Coconut Day is celebrated with the guidance
of Coconut Development Board in several coconut growing states. On 2nd September 2018,
Coconut Development Board celebrated the World Coconut Day 2018 along with the
Department of Horticulture, Government of Chhattisgarh with the theme ‘Coconut for Good

Tamil Nadu:
1. Asian Development Bank (ADB) approved financing of up to $500 million for a multitranche
financing facility (MFF) infrastructure project in at least 10 cities of Tamil Nadu. The first
tranche of the program amounting to $169 million will target the cities

of Chennai, Coimbatore, Rajapalayam, Tiruchirappalli, Tirunelveli, and Vellore. The Second
one would be a $2 million grant from the Asian Clean Energy Fund, established by the
Government of Japan, to fund the solar energy pilot project. ADB’s financing will be provided
in 3 tranches between September 2018 and March 2022. This assistance is a part of its support
to the state’s Vision Tamil Nadu 2023 to provide universal access to water and sanitation and

develop world-class cities in high-performing industrial corridors.
2. Tamil Nadu Industries Minister M C Sampath announced that, the 2 nd edition of Tamil Nadu
government’s ‘Global Investors Meet 2019’, an investment promotion programme, will be
held in Chennai on January 23-24, 2019. This announcement was made at a roadshow

organized to attract investors prior to the ‘Global Investors Meet 2019’. For ‘Global Investors
Meet 2019’, Rs. 75 crore has been alloted. The previous edition was held in September 2015.
3. Tamil Nadu government signed an MOU with the centre to implement Ayushman Bharat along
with state’s Chief Minister’s Comprehensive Health Insurance Scheme (CMCHIS).Tamil

Nadu is the 30th State to sign up for ABS. This association would benefit about 77 lakh poor
and vulnerable families in Tamil Nadu.
4. Tamil Nadu government announced scheme for the protection of the exotic Neela
kurinji (Strobilanthus kunthianus) plants in Nilagiri district of Tamilnadu. This came after the

complaints of packaging and selling them on commercial basis. These plants flower only once
in 12 years. The Neela Kurinju is a native to the Western Ghats.
5. Chennai Koyambedu bus terminus is going to be renamed as Puratchi Thalaivar Dr. MGR Bus
Terminus. This announcement was made by TN CM Edappadi K Palanichami. In addition that
CM has announced that new bus station is going to set up at Kilambakkam to connect Chennai

6. Former CM of TN Dr. MGR‘s birth centenary’s valedictory function was held at sep 30, 2018

7. Thiru Rakesh Kumar was appointed as the new President of NLC India Limited, Neyveli. He is

9. Hydro carbon project is going to implement in 55 places of our country including 3 places in

1. Parakram Parv or Surgical Strike Day - Second Anniversary of Surgical Strike was celebrated
on September 29 – 30, 2018 by Indian Army to showcase gallant action of brave Army in the
conduct of Surgical Strikes on September 29, 2016. This day was also marked to remember

2. Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs has partnered with Google to launch Loo Review
campaign on Google Map under aegis of Swachh Bharat Mission – Urban (SBM–U). This
campaign aims to encourage all local guides in India to rate and review public toilets on Google

7. According to data provided by the Housing and Urban Affairs (HUA) Ministry, over 15 per
cent of the 54.95 lakh houses sanctioned in last three years under the Centre’s
flagship Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Urban). As per the data, 8.55 lakh houses have been
completed till August 21 , 2018 and work on 30.4 lakh units across the country.
8. The Ministry of Home Affairs announced that, the Centre has increased its contribution in

the State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF) from 75 % to 90 % with effect from April 1, 2018.
The Centre will contribute 90 % and states will contribute 10 % to the relief fund. The

9. The President of India, Shri Ram Nath Kovind, inaugurated the Mahatma Gandhi
International Sanitation Convention in New Delhi on September 29, 2018. It aimed to focus
on India’s target towards achieving Sustainable Development Goal 6 by 2030, especially targets
6.1, 6.2 and 6.3. Target 6.2 of the Sustainable Development Goals to end open defecation.
10. PM Narendra Modi inaugurated the Conference on Academic Leadership on Education for
Resurgence in Vigyan Bhawan with the participation of Directors of 350 universities. This

14. Ministry of Housing & Urban Affairs approved the construction of 6,26,488 more affordable
houses under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Urban). This decision was taken during
the 38thmeeting of the Central Sanctioning and Monitoring Committee. A total of 11 states
are involved in the proposal of the houses. They are: Uttar Pradesh was sanctioned 2,34,879

houses, Andhra Pradesh was sanctioned 1,40,559, Madhya Pradesh: 74,631,Bihar: 50,017
houses, Chattisgarh: 30,371 houses, Gujarat: 29,185 houses, Maharashtra : 22,265 houses,
Tamil Nadu 20,794 houses, Odisha: 13,421 houses, Tripura: 9,778 houses, Manipur: 2,588.
After this approval, cumulative approvals under PMAY (U) became 60,28,608 under CSMC.

Search Committee under the Chairmanship of former Supreme Court Judge, Justice Ranjana

16. A five-judge Constitution bench chaired by Chief Justice of India Dipak Misra on 28th
Sep,2018 ruled out the provisions of Kerala Hindu Places of Public Worship (Authorisation of
Entry) Rules, 1965. According to this, women of the age group 10-50 were denied to enter the
Sabarimala Temple. The Supreme Court struck it down as it violated the right of Hindu women
to practice religion.

17. Union Minister for Tribal Affairs launched “Punch Tantra Diwali collection” and announced
World Boxing Champion Mary Kom as Brand Ambassador of “Tribes India” in Vigyan Bhawan,
New Delhi. The Punch Tantra range of tribal arti-facts consists of handlooms and handicrafts
inspired and promoted by Mary Kom. The Punch Tantra collection comprises Sarees, Stoles,
Dupatas, Shawls, Kurtas/Kurtis, Lamp shades (Kandels), Sky Lanters, Diyas, Gift hampers, etc.

18. Nepal-Bharat Maitri Pashupati Dharamshala was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra
Modi along with Nepal PM K P Sharma Oli in Kathmandu, capital of Nepal. Nepal-Bharat
Maitri Pashupati Dharamshala is rest house for pilgrims in Kathmandu, built with Indian
assistance. It is located on banks of Bagmati River. It has provisions to meet the requirements

of pilgrims including dining hall, kitchen, family rooms and multipurpose halls to meet the
requirements of travellers and families on pilgrimage to Pashupatinath Temple. Pashupatinath

20. The merger of Idea Cellular and Vodafone India has been completed after it was cleared by

National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT). The merged entity is named Vodafone Idea Ltd and
dislodges current market leader Bharti Airtel from top position, by its sheer size and scale. This
merger has created India’s biggest telecom service provider. New board has been constituted
for merged entity with 12 directors (including six independent directors) and Kumar Mangalam
Birla as its Chairman.

21. A MoU for implementation of 90 billion Indore-Manmad rail project has been signed among
the shipping and railway ministries, Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra governments. It will
have 55% share and Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh will have share of 15 per cent each.

22. A conference on Motivating and Attracting Youth in Agriculture (MAYA) was held at National
Agricultural Science Complex (NASC), in New Delhi on 30-31,Aug 2018. The conference was
inaugurated by Dr. Trilochan Mohapatra, Secretary (DARE) & Director General (ICAR). The
conference offered an opportunity to discuss various options for attracting youth to agriculture
and motivating them towards entrepreneurship in agriculture and related fields.

24. A draft rules on sale of drugs by e-pharmacies to regulate online sale of medicines across

India has released by Union Health Ministry. It is mandatory for online pharmacies to register
under Central Drugs Standard Control Organisation (CDSCO) and obtain trade licence
applicable across India from any state government. E-pharmacies only need to take one licence
in any state. They can sell drugs all over the country even if they have one licence. These rules

25. The proposal of Jharkhand Government to rename Nagar Untari town and railway station as

mechanisms are set up to make these rights functional and enforceable by law.

27. For the development of rural circuit in Kerala, Malanad Malabar Cruise Tourism Project
under Swadesh Darshan Scheme has sanctioned by Ministry of Tourism. Under this project,
Ministry of Tourism will be developing three cruises with budget of Rs. 80.37 crores. The
three approved Cruises were Malabari Cuisine and Culinary Cruise (Muthappan Cruise): It will
start from Valapattanam and cover distance of 40 km to reach Munambu Kadavu in

Valapattanam River. Valapattanam River- Theyyam Cruise: It will begin from Valapattanam and
will go up to Pazhayangadi in Valapattanam River. Mangrove Cruise: It will be running on
Kuppam River covering distance of 16 Km from Pazhayangadi to Kuppam.

16. The first ever midair refuelling of indigenously developed light combat aircraft (LCA) Tejas
has successfully carried out by Indian Air Force (IAF). LCA Tejas is lightweight single-seat
multi-role jet fighter, powered by single engine. It has tailess and compound delta wing
design made entirely of composite structures. It is pegged as world’s smallest and lightest
supersonic fighter in its class. It was named ‘Tejas’, which means ‘radiance’, by former

this aircraft. Its maiden flight took place in 2001. For this test, Russian-built IL-78 MKI
tanker was launched from IAF’s base in Agra while LCA Tejas fighter was launched from
Gwalior. Nine more tests will be held which will also include wet tests where actual transfer

involved dry linkup, meaning no fuel was actually transferred between IAF Il-78 tanker and

22. Union Finance Ministry has doubled pecuniary limit to Rs. 20 lakh from Rs.10 lakh for filing
loan recovery application in Debt Recovery Tribunals (DRT) by banks and financial

bank or financial institution or consortium of banks or financial institutions cannot approach
