Prior Knowledge:
- Students know how to add single digit numbers.
- Students know how to subtract single digit numbers
- Students recognize the terms add and subtract
Lesson Objectives:

- By the end of the lesson, students will be (better) able to solve addition word problems.
- By the end of the lesson, students will be (better) able to solve subtraction word problems
- By the end of the lesson, students will be (better) able to recognize the terms (take away,
how many are left? In all, how many altogether?)

Lesson Activities:

Warm up activity:
- I will choose 10 students and I will call them to the carpet, I will use (- + =) cones to create
real life word problems with the help of the students.
- I will introduce the terms that could be used in subtraction and addition word problems.

Middle:
- I will gather the students on the carpet and I will solve a couple examples of word problems
with them and I will demonstrate to them how to translate the words to numbers.
- I will give all the students a paper with the words on them and then I will give them a
worksheet of word problems that they will solve.
- I will walk around and help the students solve the worksheet, and when they are done, I will
open the worksheet on the data show and solve with them.

Closing
- I will review with the students by repeating the words I already introduced and ask one
student to get up and be a little teacher to repeat what he understood.
Evaluation / Assessment: How will you know your students have achieved the goal?
I will observe the student as they solve the worksheet and then I will complete the lesson based on
my observation of their understanding.

Personal focus: Related to PDP


In this lesson I am working on my time management, I will use a watch to monitor time and
make sure the lesson is going according to the plan.
