Introducing
Diabetes mellitus disease is a disease that every year always and continues
to increase the number of patients, this disease can not be cured but still can be
controlled by the application of strict diet and healthy living habits. to control
blood sugar levels in order to always be in normal condition. need to understand
glucose is needed by the body because glucose is included in one of the main
energy sources of the body. This disease is a chronic disease characterized by
metabolic abnormalities resulting from a lack of insulin production by the
pancreas or it could be due to a lack of body response to insulin, or it could be the
result of other hormonal influences that inhibit insulin performance.
This disease occurs when the pancreas can no longer produce enough
insulin, or your body becomes less sensitive to the insulin that the body produces
the function of the Insulin Hormone that is to convert glucose into energy. If
insulin production is reduced or ineffective then blood glucose levels become
uncontrolled with optimal this can lead to the occurrence of Diabetes Mellitus
disease.
Diabetes means that your blood glucose (blood sugar) is too high. Here
are the main types of diabetes. Type 1 diabetes: the body does not make insulin.
Insulin helps the body use glucose from food for energy. People with type 1 need
to take insulin every day. Type 2 diabetes: the body does not make or use insulin
well. People with type 2 often need to take pills or insulin. Type 2 is the most
common form of diabetes. Gestational (jes-TAY-shon-al) diabetes mellitus
(GDM): occurs when a woman is pregnant. It raises her risk of getting another
type of diabetes, mostly type 2, for the rest of her life. It also raises her child’s
risk of being overweight and getting diabetes.

B. Discussion (Step to Control Diabetes)

Taking good care of yourself and your diabetes can help you feel better
and avoid health problems caused by diabetes such as:

1
1. Heart attack and stroke
2. Eye problems that can lead to trouble seeing or going blind
3. Nerve damage that can cause your hands and feet to hurt, tingle, or feel numb.
Some people may even lose a foot or a leg
4. kidney problems that can cause your kidneys to stop working • gum disease
and loss of teeth
Use the following activity plan to control blood sugar as follows :
1. Use your diabetes food plan. If you do not have one, ask your health care team
for one.
a. Eat healthy foods such as fruits and vegetables, fish, lean meats, chicken
or turkey without the skin, dry peas or beans, whole grains, and low-fat or
skim milk and cheese.
b. Keep fish and lean meat and poultry portions to about 3 ounces (or the
size of a pack of cards). Bake, broil, or grill it.
c. Eat foods that have less fat and salt.
d. Eat foods with more fiber such as whole-grain cereals, breads, crackers,
rice, or pasta.
2. Get 30 to 60 minutes of physical activity on most days of the week. Brisk
walking is a great way to move more.
3. Stay at a healthy weight by making healthy food choices and moving more.
4. Ask for help if you feel down. A mental health counselor, support group,
member of the clergy, friend, or family member will listen to your concerns
and help you feel better.
5. Learn to cope with stress. Stress can raise your blood glucose. While it is hard
to remove stress from your life, you can learn to handle it.
6. Stop smoking. Ask for help to quit.
7. Take medicines even when you feel good. Ask you doctor if you need aspirin
to prevent a heart attack or stroke. Tell your doctor if you cannot afford your
medicine or if you have any side effects.

2
8. Check your feet every day for cuts, blisters, red spots, and swelling. Call your
health care team right away about any sores that won’t go away.
9. Brush your teeth and floss every day to avoid problems with your mouth,
teeth, or gums.
10. Check your blood glucose. You may want to test it one or more times a day.
11. Check your blood pressure. If your doctor advises.
12. Report any changes in your eyesight to your doctor.
Get routine care to avoid problems. See your health care team at least
twice a year to find and treat problems early. Discuss what steps you can take to
reach your goals.
1. At each visit get a:
a. Blood pressure check
b. Foot check
c. Weight check
2. Two times each year get an:
a. A1C test—It may be checked more often if it is over 7
3. Once each year get a:
a. Cholesterol test
b. Triglyceride (try-GLISS-er-ide) test- a type of blood fat
c. Complete foot exam
d. Dental exam to check teeth and gums, tell your dentist you have diabetes
e. Dilated eye exam to check for eye problems
f. Flu shot
g. Urine and a blood test to check for kidney problems
And most importantly for people with diabetes between :
1. Learning about healthy eating and diabetes self care and special shoes, if you
need them
2. Medical supplies
3. Diabetes medicines

3
Very often people misinterpret diet diabetics. People think the diabetic
diet is very strict diet. But actually this diet is the same as the diet in general. Diet
in diabetus patients requires the patient to regulate the intake of carbohydrates,
fats and also calories into the body. Because if not properly regulated, then the
blood sugar levels can increase. Besides that people with this disease should also
consume more high-fiber foods, such as vegetables and fruits.

C. Conclusion
Lifestyle and habits are very influential for people with diabetes mellitus.
As a health problem, diabetes provides a big burden as a health problem by seeing
that:
1. DM symptoms alone are quite a lot and heavy, each disorder is enough to
challenge members in overcoming it. Faced with a feeling of hunger only, for
example a form of disturbance that is quite severe faced by every patient,
where the desire to refrain from eating.
2. DM is an easy disease "cooperation" with other diseases. If DM cooperates
among high blood sugar groups then they can form a "triangle king of
disease".
3. If DM enters the stage of complication, complications of DM are entered into
all pathways of the human body system.
In general, DM is a public health burden that is quite heavy considering that:
1. Diabetes can not be cured, can only be controlled or intercepted (slowed). DM
will be a lifelong part of a patient's life.
2. Vulnerable to complications, advanced circumstances. This advanced state
can be because the patient feels painless, thus neglecting treatment and care.
In addition it is certainly late to see a doctor to make a diagnosis and
treatment.
3. Diabetic complications are severe and can lead to death.

4
The use of artificial sugar is also not recommended at all. Because
artificial sugar can increase blood sugar levels, especially diabetics. In
addition to a proper diet, people with diabetes can more easily overcome
diabetes mellitus with mild exercise to always maintain body fitness.
