Station #1
Nervous System

Organ System
The Nervous system is the communication system for the entire
body.

My main parts are the brain, spinal cord, nerves, and nerve cells.

I work with all systems but I specifically work with the muscles to
communicate to them when to contract to cause movement. The
special connection I have to the muscles is at the cellular level and
it’s called the neuromuscular junction - Neuro = nerves, and
muscular = muscles. Get it?

Organ
The brain is one of the subsystems of the Nervous
system.

It has three main parts, which have very specific

functions (jobs) to do.

The brain controls everything in the body. It controls

your emotions, your thoughts, and every movement you
make.

The brain is made of more than 10 billion nerves! It’s

divided into three parts and is protected by the skull.

Station #2
Nervous Tissue and Cells

Tissue
This is a tissue of the cerebellum - one of the
parts of the brain.

Each tissue is its own subsystem of the brain

The cerebellum controls motor function, the

body's ability to balance, and its ability to
interpret information sent to the brain by the
eyes, ears, and other sensory organs.

Cell
Nerve cell - is one of the subsystems of nervous
system tissue. Individual nerve cells communicate
with other nerve cells to send the message to or
from the muscles at the neuromuscular junction

Station #3
Musculoskeletal System

Organ System
The main function of the musculoskeletal system is to
help the body move

The skeleton provides structure. The muscles contract to

pull on the skeleton to make the body move.

My main parts are the bones, muscles, ligaments, and

tendons.

Organ – Muscle

Each muscle is a subsystem of the organ system

The muscles receive blood from the heart and instructions

from the nerves

The muscles are attached to the bone through tendons

Muscles contract, pulling on the bone to create movement.

Station #4
Muscle Tissue and Cell

Muscle Tissue
Muscle tissue is a subsystem of a muscle.

Muscle cells are organized into fibers, that work

together like ropes or cables to pull in the same
direction.

Note: you may not see these “ropes” when looking

at muscle tissue through a microscope. These
“ropes” are visible at a larger scale than most
microscopes show.

Muscle cell
Muscle cells are a subsystem of muscle
tissue

There are many muscle cells in muscle

tissue

Muscle cell = individual cells

Muscle tissue = multiple cells and the

surrounding proteins that hold the cells in
place.

Muscle cells contract. When a lot of muscle

cells contract together, the entire muscle
contracts and pulls on the bone. This is how
we move.
