"FOREST KING"
"If a man speaks in the middle of a forest and there is no
woman to hear him, is he still wrong" (Quote on a small
notepad)
Fortunately men, if you are out in the woods far enough you
can largely forget whether you are right or wrong. At least as
long as you have left the missus behind!!! The fall is just a
great time to be out in the woods!!! Spring, summer and
winter aren't too bad either but fall is best!! Crisp air, warm
sunshine and if I am not running the chain saw or tractor ...
peace!!
Smart men may want to consider taking up residence in the
forest on a full time basis and never come out. If we do, we can
be King of the Forest but if we come out ... we will certainly
face "The Battle of the Sexes". The problem is ... the battle is
now a massacre!! Just look at the propaganda that is spurring
women onward and over us!!
Q: Why do men become smarter during sex?
A: Because they are plugged into a genius.
Q: How are husbands like lawn mowers?
A: They're hard to get started, they emit noxious odors, and
half the time they don't work.
Q: What should you give a man who has everything?
A: A woman to show him how to work it.
Q: Why does it take 100 million sperm to fertilize one egg?
Sports Injuries? A: Because not one will stop and ask for directions.
Q: Why don't men have mid-life crises?
A: They stay stuck in adolescence.
R emember All smart generals understand when it is better to retreat
than to face certain defeat. This general is figuring out what
size cabin I should build and exactly how far back in the woods
I need to go!!

THE POPPY CAMPAIGN BEGINS OCTOBER 29TH

Out of respect for the memory of the more
than 117,000 Canadian men and women who
paid the supreme sacrifice for our freedom,
the Royal Canadian Legion strives to
commemorate their sacrifice and the sacrifice
of their families and friends, and those who are
now serving by conducting the annual poppy
campaign and remembrance ser vices
throughout Canada. Most Canadians know
that the poppy campaign which began in 1925 is both a
fundraising and commemoration event. The poppy campaign
is the Legion’s major fundraising event of the year and all of
the monies raised are used for commemoration and to assist
veterans and families in need.
The campaign is also intended to give Canadians an
opportunity to wear a poppy to remember.
Nationwide, the poppy campaign begins on the last Friday in
October and ends on November 11th - there are, of course,
ceremonial presentations that may begin earlier than this.
Canadians remain indebted to the many who have “answered
the call” for the cause of peace. The “blood-red” poppy HAVELOCK LIONS

Out of respect for the sacrifices of the
many who answered Canada’s call with
an unlimited liability to serve, other
charitable and well purposed
organizations do not usually conduct
fund raising events during the poppy
campaign. As we commemorate the
sacrifices of our veterans, it is useful to
remember “In Flanders fields the
poppies blow between the crosses, row
on row; that mark our place; and in the
sky the larks, still bravely singing, fly;
scarce heard amid the guns below ... if
ye break faith with us who die we shall
not sleep though poppies grow in
Flanders fields” (McCrae).
Wear your poppy with pride and
respect. We will remember them,.

Musings You are invited to the
90th Birthday
Open House
By Debbie Hickey
for Rev. Murray F. Urquhart
on Oct 23, 2010,
THANKFULNESS from 2-4 pm
Thanksgiving Day is behind us, but perhaps we can hang
onto the idea of thankfulness just a little longer. Mike and I at Belleisle Community Centre,
took the dog and our granddaughter for a stroll in the "back 1648 Route 124, Springfield, NB.
40" on Thanksgiving Monday. The sun was shining, the
leaves were at their best and the smell was delicious. We Best Wishes Only.
then went home and had the family over for supper. The end
of a perfect weekend.
As I got ready for work the next morning I reflected on the
attitude of thankfulness. It is so easy to remember the one
"pain the butt" thing that happened in the run of an
otherwise great day and completely negate all the good stuff
that also occurred. The wait in traffic, but not the fact that
your favourite song EVER was playing on the radio. The lawn
mower breaking down, but not the smell of the air, the
warmth of the sun and the kids laughing while they played
tag. So I thought I would share a few of the things I am
thankful for.
I am thankful for a great husband who, even though he
delights in teasing and torturing me and is free with the
insults, nevertheless loves me in spite of all those faults that
he is happy to point out! I am thankful to have two daughters
who have grown to adulthood and are now my friends (an
accomplishment those of you still raising teenagers may
doubt will ever come). I am thankful for a granddaughter
who gleefully teases like her "grumpy" and generously
dispenses hugs and kisses like her mother. I am thankful for
my family being close (the furthest away is in Saint John),
and for the continued good health of my Mum. I am thankful
to be able to enjoy the seasons, the sun, the beauty of the
snow and the pleasure of a warm fire on a snowy day. I am
thankful to be able to watch the variety of birds that
frequent the bird feeders on the back deck while I sit in front www.girlguides.ca
of that warm fire on a snowy day! I am thankful for the
laughter and the joy that can be found in every day if we just
look.
You have been given 86,400 seconds today and every day.
Have you used one of them to be thankful? 801
