Wishful Snowman Stocking By Julie G. DeGroat

Everyone knows it’s best to have a great big stocking for stuffing. This one
meets that requirement plus it’s easy and fun to make in its folk-art style.

Project Specifications
Skill Level: Beginner
Stocking Size: Approximately 111⁄2" x 15"

Materials
• ⁄4 yard gold felt
1

• Green felt 8" x 11"

• Scraps of red, white, orange, blue and yellow felt
• Brown, gold and red 6-strand embroidery floss
• 3 (3⁄4") star-shaped craft buttons
Scarf
Cut 1 blue
• Basic sewing supplies and tools
Instructions
Step 1. Cut out all shapes as indicated on pattern
pieces.
Step 2. Arrange pieces on stocking front, referring
to photo for placement. Pin in place.
Step 3. Stitch appliqué shapes in place with 2
strands of contrasting embroidery floss. Use both
buttonhole and running stitch for variety.
Step 4. For snowman’s eye, make French knot
with two strands of brown embroidery floss, wrap-
ping thread around needle three times. With same
floss color, stitch three tiny running stitches to

make mouth. Make running stitches to create path Cut 1 red

arms.
Step 5. Referring to photo, sew buttons in place.
Step 6. Pin stocking front to stocking back. Use
buttonhole stitch and 4 strands of brown embroi-
dery floss to buttonhole-stitch around edges. Leave When printing pattern pieces check
