Course Description

This course will provide the student with an introduction on how to use SolidWorks mechanical design software to build
parametric models of parts and assemblies. This is a process based course where the focus is on the process and procedures
used to complete a particular task as well as hands on practice. Advanced sketching and part modeling techniques are
covered, including 3D sketches, part factories and sweeps.

Course Outcomes

Successful completion of this course will enable the student to:


1. Compare SolidWorks as a designing and drafting tool to traditional drawing techniques.
2. Demonstrate 2D sketching methods.
3. Create 3D parametric solids using the extrude feature.
4. Create work features.
5. Create placed features.
6. Create holes using the Hole wizard.
7. Create parametric 3D solids by revolving and sweeping a profile.
8. Practice editing techniques on previously created objects.
9. Utilize advanced dimensioning and constraining techniques.
10. Create a basic SolidWorks part.
11. Create complex SolidWorks parametric solids using advanced modeling techniques.
12. Employ SolidWorks assembly techniques.
13. Create parts using SolidWorks Toolbox.
14. Create 2D orthographic and isometric views according to established standards.
15. Create family of parts using Design Tables.
