The faces of death come in
many forms in the present as in the
past. There are those that are the
results of sickness, accident, old
age. And there are those of greed,
crime, war, famine and poverty.
But there are deaths too that come
because of people’s hatred of the

Family for Christ Hosted a Whole Day New Life Seminar

he Family for Christ conducted a whole day New life
Seminar last November 18, 2018 at the Parish Hall with
the theme: “Family Life Spirituality”. There were 28
participants but only 11 completed the four topics.
After a brief orientation, Brod. Rey Alava, FFC Head
Servant, an inspirational message was given by our beloved
Msgr. Jose Marie Amado S. Delgado. He clearly pointed
our relevant features on family relationships. “What God
has bind into one, nobody can detach from except death.
Husbands and wives must give attention to the teachings of
the church regarding marriage and family in order to have a
strong and closer tie with God and with the whole members
of the members of the family. Continue
spreading the word of God by attending
seminars, formations and other catechetical
teachings to share with the whole family,
eventually, evangelization starts with the
home”. Msgr. Delgado gave his blessings to
the community.

A Partnership of the Church and the State
I
s there really a separation of Church and State? Do
government people not seek God? Do they honor the
Lord’s Day? Where do the law- makers base their laws to
be enacted? Are they from the Ten Commandments? Where
did the Ten Commandments originate from?
Public school teachers practice their religion and deep in
their hearts they thirst for God. That’s why, they yearn for a
recollection to break from their busy world in teaching and
be with God. Last November 17, 2018, the Jaro I Elementary
School Teachers held a recollection at the Jaro Cathedral
with Msgr. Joemarie Delgado as their facilitator and with the
assistance of the catechists of the parish. Thirty-nine (39)
teachers and eight (8) catechists were present. It was also the
Feast of St. Elizabeth of Hungary.
Msgr. Delgado was very happy of their disposition. He
appreciated the willingness of the teachers. He expressed
his thoughts in the light of the these two entities, public and
religious as partners in forming the school children not only as
good citizens of the country but above all as children of God.
The first part of his talk was self-evaluation. As Christian,
the Word of God is very important. While we need God Who
communicates to us – feel the Spirit of God in His Word,
beyond what eyes can see to assess ourselves. Msgr. referred
this truth to Rom 7:14-20. “We know that the law is spiritual;
but I am carnal, sold into slavery to sin. What I do, I do not
understand. For I do not do what I want, but I do what I

rs. Ma. Eloisa S. Penado, President of the Ladies of
Charity, Jaro Unit in her desire to propagate this
Association and to enlighten and encourage its
members, has assigned some members to study and research
about the Association.
During our regular monthly meeting last November 18,
Mrs. Lourdes Villa enlightened the group on the foundation
of the Ladies of Charity. On August 20, 1617, while St. Vincent
de Paul (at that time Pastor at Chatillon-les-Domes, in the
diocese of Lyons, France now Chatillon-sur Chalaronne in
the diocese of Belley); while he was vesting or Mass, he was
informed that at afarm about half mile away, all the members
of a family wre ill and in dire need. He was greatly affected
and in his sermon, he spoke of the plight of the poor family.
His words were so persuasive that everyone was touched
with compassion. Many kind-hearted people went to assit
the poor family bringing them bread, wine, meat, etc. After
Vespers, Abbe Vincent also went to the farm. Seeing the
large number of people coming and going in response to
his appeal, and finding that an abundance of provision had

hate. Now if I do what I do not want, I concur that the law is
good. So now, it is no longer I who do it, but sin that dwells
in me.”
Going deeper, he asked reactions from the teachers. One
of them stood up and frankly said, “I know that to be late is
wrong, but until now I am still late for some reason.” One
group said that they are telling something about their husbands
which somehow affected them, but in a way taught them
lesson, another one said that to cover up is wrong, especially
in guidance of the children, scolding inside the classroom
is another misgiving in discipline. With these remarks, the
teachers looked at this deeply, internalizing it.
Why am I doing this? The moment we move a little deeper
into this matter we are becoming man and woman. We are on
the process of introspection. There is already a deep reflection
to understand, that is, in reasoning why. Read The Parable
of the Weeds among the Wheat. …Let them grow together
until harvest, then at harvest time I will say to the harvesters,
‘First collect the weeds and tie them in bundles for burning;
but gather the wheat into my barn.
The second part is healing. How to heal ourselves of the
shortcomings we did, PALEGAS was discussed as a guide.
This is an acronym for the seven capital sins; pride, anger,
lust, envy, gluttony, avarice, sloth. Avarice is different from
gluttony, because avarice is kadalok sa pagkabutang, while
gluttony sa pagkaon. Sloth is being tamad ukon uyaya.
Then the last part is the celebration of
the Eucharist, which is already an anticipated
Mass, and Agape.

exercising great charity, but it isnot well organized. This poor
family will have too many provisions at one time and some of
them will be spoiled and wasted, in a short time, this family
will be reduced to their former state of need. Would itnot be
possible to induce these good women to give themselves to
God to serve the poor permanently?”
On August 23, Abbe Vincent assembled 20 ladies of the
parish and proposed that they associate to succor the poor
in the village with corporal and spiritual nourishment. The
ladies agreed. He outlined rules and regulations which
received the approbation of the Archbishop of Lyonne and
resulted in the foundation of the Confraternity of Charity.
Then it spread to other parts of
France, Italy, Poland, etc. Then on June 1950 Rev. fr.
Zacarias Subinas, C.M. Provincial visitor coalesced the district
or ganization into a ntional organization named Ladies of
Charity of the Philippines,INc. Soon after, parish units sprang
up in Roxas City and Jaro in 1958. At the Special National
Convention on April 29, 1994, the name of the Association
was changed to Ladies of Charity – AIC Philippines, Inc.;
and its New By-Laws were approved by the Securities and
Exchange Commission on November 15, 1994 and renewed
in 2014.
To appreciate and imbibe more fully the charism of the
Association, Mrs. Villa explained the following:
1. The Purpose of the Association is to imitate the divine
Savior who is the source and model of all charity,
alleviating the sufferings of the poor, the oppressed
and disadvantaged bringing corporal and spiritual
nourishment to them.
2. The Spirit of the Association consists of those virtues
which the Ladies of Charity should practice in the
corporal and spiritual service of the poor who are the
representatives of our Lord Jesus Christ composed of
the following: 1) humility makes the Ladies accept who
they are, their giftedness, their talents, treasures, skills
even as they also recognize their limitations, weaknesses,
loveliness and even nothingness. Only humility can drive
the Ladies to serve the poor. She looks to God alone as
the witness to her charity, her la- bor and sacrifices. She

sets with her eyes fixed. She does seek recognition, she
goes straight to the goal by means of faith, religion and
experience suggest. She works faithfully for the poor, and
in her contact with them, is not affected either but their
word or manner.
