LA PLATA Y SUS ALEACIONES

RESUMEN
La plata es un elemento muy importante debido a sus características y propiedades; la
plata pura exhibe la más alta conductividad eléctrica y térmica de todos los metales,
también es resistente a la oxidación.
La mayor parte de su producción se obtiene como subproducto del tratamiento de las
minas de cobre, zinc, plomo y oro.
En la mayoría de sus aplicaciones, la plata se alea con uno o más metales y se utiliza
por ejemplo en puntos de contacto eléctrico y electrónico aprovechando su alta
conductividad, también se emplea mucho en joyería.
En las aleaciones más importantes y de mayor uso se encuentran las aleaciones de
Ag-Cu, Ag-Ni y Ag-Pd.
Entre las aleaciones en que la plata es un componente se encuentran las amalgamas
dentales, metales para cojinetes y pistones de motores, en general se han establecido
aplicaciones en fotografía, soldadura, baterías, medicinas, odontología, espejos
retrovisores, rodamientos, catalizadores, monedas y barras de control nuclear. Es por
ello la gran valoración que se le da a este metal.

ABSTRACT
Silver is a very important element due to its characteristics and properties; Pure silver
exhibits the highest electrical and thermal conductivity of all metals, it is also resistant
to oxidation.
Most of its production is obtained as a byproduct of the treatment of copper, zinc, lead
and gold mines.
In most of its applications, silver is alloyed with one or more metals and is used for
example in electrical and electronic contact points taking advantage of its high
conductivity, it is also widely used in jewelry.
The alloys of Ag-Cu, Ag-Ni and Ag-Pd are found in the most important and widely used
alloys.
Among the alloys in which silver is a component are dental amalgams, bearing metals
and motor pistons, in general applications have been established in photography,
welding, batteries, medicines, dentistry, rear-view mirrors, bearings, catalysts, coins
and nuclear control rods. That is why the great value that is given to this metal.
