Mass Pass

Type of Game: Initiative

Group size: Max 40 min 20

Approximate time: 40 minutes

Props: Buckets, Hula Hoops, tape, poppers, rubber chickens, rings, balls,
spots, paper and marker

Basic Objective: Gather as many points as possible within a two minute

time frame.

Instructions: Place tape on the ground to determine a two sided boundary

with a large-wide open middle space. Split the group into two groups. Within
their groups, members must decide how many retrievers and throwers they
want. The throwers will be outside of the boundary line throwing the props
into the prop holders. The retrievers will be grabbing the props that were not
thrown into the prop holders and throwing them back to the throwers.

Each group is designated a color which corresponds to the colors of the

props. Each group will receive the following props: poppers, small balls,
rubber chickens, and rings. The amount of props per group is decided based
on the number of people per team. For example, if there are about 10
people per group then each group may have around 2 rings, 4 rubber
chickens, 8 balls and 8 poppers. There must be two different colors of each
props, colors that correspond to the group colors.

For the prop holders, there are 4 hula hoops, 4 spots, and 2 buckets. Two of
the same colored hula hoops will be placed to the right and left diagonally
from the opposite colored teams. The 2 buckets will be placed in the middle
next to each other. Two of the same colored spots will be placed in front of
the opposite colored teams. Corresponding prop color must be thrown into
the corresponding prop holder. In short, each colored prop holders will be
placed on the opposite side of their boundary tape.

Each prop and prop holder have a designated number of points.

Balls = 1 point
Popper = 2 points
Rubber Chickens = 10 points
Rings = 20 points
Hula hoop = 1 points
Bucket = 2 points
Poly spot = 5 points

Points are earned by the equations: prop holder x the amount of props in
that prop holder. Example: bucket (2 pts) x 3 poppers(2 pts) in bucket =
2x3x2= 12 pts.

After two minutes are up, count the points from each colored team then add
up the total amount of points. You may write this on a notepad for the
people to see.

Variations: four different groups with four different colors, you can use
different amounts of props

Debrief: Teamwork vs competition, SMART goals

- Why did you view the activity as a competition?

- When did you realize it was a team effort?
- Was your goal achievable?

Notables: Retrievers may not defend their side by blocking or intercepting

the props, throwers may not cross the boundary line, after first round you
may ask the group to set a goal for themselves, note that this is not a
competition but allow the people to figure that out, make sure you have
enough space to do this activity
