SDG are a collection of 17 global goals set by the United Nations General Assembly

in 2015.
All these goals have a seperate list of targets to achieve before 2030, but
all of them together cater for a better global population in terms of humanitarian
resources.l

What is it about
Sdg 14 main objective is to protect marine and coastal ecossystems from pollution
as well as making the water pure all around the globe. This can be accomplished by
reducing overfishing, marine pollution and ocean acidification.

Consequences
In our world we can visualize countless consequences of the marine pollution. So as
less drinking water, reduction of habitats, extinction of species due to high
mortality and an overall ravaged world. (examples)

Facts
The ocean covers three quarters of the Earths surface
The ocean contains nearly 200,000 identified species, but there are still left more
than a million to identify.
More than 3 billion people depend on marine and coastal biodiversity for their
daily life. As an example we have Nile River in Egypt.
The ocean absorbs about 30 percent of carbon dioxide produced by humans, buffering
the impacts of global warming.

Targets
1- By 2025, one of the targets is to reduce significantly marine debris.
2-Minimize and address the impacts of ocean acidification, including through
enhanced scientific cooperation at all levels
3- By 2020 effectively end overfishing, illegal fishing and provide an overall
better environment to all fishes.
4- Provide access for small-scale to marine resources and markets- open up
frontiers to broaden the artisanal fishers horizons.

Goals in action
1- A tidal wave of plastic- this goal is applying measures to reduce the amount of
plastic in the water
ex:
-89% of plastic litter found on the ocean floor are single-use items like plastic
bags.
- coastal clean-ups by volunteers in India
- in Peru they use a strong recycling tecnique that collects about 400 kg of waste
every day

What can we do?

-We depend on plastic. We wouldn't imagine our life without it
Reduce and reuse drastically the amount of single-use plastics you use; recycle
what you no longer need(images)

2- Worldwide, people eat four times as much fish today as they did in 1950. India
is the second-largest producer of fish in the worldis putting a demand on fish
supplies that is 2-3 times greater than the oceans can support over time.
At this rate, fish catch in tropical areas is expected to decline 40 percent by
2050, jeopardizing the livelihoods of millions of people. The project helps protect
life under water,
and helps fishing communities create sustainable livelihoodsways of making a
living that wont compromise themselves or their children in years to come.
3- Benguela Current is a shared resource between Angola, Namibia, and South Africa,

The project helped bring the three governments together to examine the ecologic,
socio-economic and governance issues across key sectors such as fishing,
tourism and oil and gas [extraction]. The countries agreed on and signed a mutual
strategy.
key to ensure the Benguela marine ecosystem continues to support the people of
Angola, Namibia, and South Africa far into the future. (images)
