- Cells are the basic building blocks of all living things
- They provide structure for the body, take in nutrients, excrete wastes, undertakes energy, undertake energy processes and divide and replicate - - each cell has various subparts, called organelles
A collection of cells together of the same type is known as a tissue
Collections of tissues arranged for functional purpose are known as organs
A collection of organs functioning together is known as n organism

LG: To develop an understanding of organelles in plants +animals cells
1. Re draw table – fill out answers (internet or textbooks)
2. Fill in Venn diagram 3. Create a poster for a chosen organelle
Cellular Organelles
Name Function Present in plants Present in animals
Nucleus It is the command centre of a eukaryotic cell and is commonly the most prominent organelle in a cell. It contains the DNA and controls the growth and reproduction of the cell Nucleolus A small body in the nucleus of a cell that contains protein and RNA and is the site for the synthesis of ribosomal RNA and for the formation of ribosomal subunits. Cell wall The rigid outermost cell layer found in plants and certain algae, bacteria, and fungi but absent from animal cells. Plasma membrane The cell membrane (also known as the plasma membrane or cytoplasmic membrane, and historically referred to as the plasmalemma) is a biological membrane that separates the interior of all cells from the outside environment (the extracellular space). It consists of a lipid bilayer with embedded proteins. Cytoplasm the material or protoplasm within a living cell, excluding the nucleus. Vacuole Vacuoles are storage bubbles found in cells. They are found in both animal and plant cells but are much larger in plant cells. Vacuoles might store food or any variety of nutrients a cell might need to survive. They can even store waste products so the rest of the cell is protected from contamination.
