These LEDs indicate the status of the function that is connected with
the corresponding key:
LED dark
corresponding function is not active (switched off)
LED lights
corresponding function is active (switched on)
LED flashes slowly
The function associated with the key is activated, but is not opera-
tional owing to the status of the controller.

Auxiliary OFF
This button switches off the machine's auxiliary units. Only effective
if spindle and program are off.

Auxiliary ON
This button makes the machine's auxiliary units ready for operation
(hydraulics, feed drives, spindle drives, lubricant, coolant).
The button must be pressed for around 1 second.
Tapping the AUX ON key is a clear function and causes the central
lubrication system to perform a lubrication squirt.

Single block
This functions allows you to run a parts program block by block.
You can enable the Single Block feature in Automatic mode.

When single block processing is active:

• SBL1 or SBL2 is displayed on the screen (in the channel structure
display line).
• the Text "Stop: Individual Block mode" is output in the channel
operating message line (in the interrupted status).
• the current block of the parts program is only machined when you
press the NC Start key.
• machining stops after a block is executed.
• the next block is executed by pressing the NC Start key again.
The function can be deselected by pressing the Single Block key
again.
SBL1
Single Block with Stop after each machine functional block.
If the function is enabled, processing is interrupted after each block
which triggers a function on the machine (computing blocks do not
lead to a halt).
SBL2
Single Block with Stop after each block.
If the function is enabled, parts program blocks are processed as
follows:
Each block is decoded individually and a stop takes place at each
block. Only thread blocks without a test feed are excepted. In this
case, there is only a halt at the end of the current thread block. SBL2
can be selected only in the Reset state.
You call SBL1 or SBL2 in Auto or MDA mode with the "Program
influence" softkey.

Cycle stop
After pressing the NC stop button after the controller has taken over
the function, processing of the current parts program is suspended.
Machining can then be continued by pressing the NC Start key.

Cycle start
After pressing the NC Start key, the selected parts program will be
started with the current block.

Spindle Stop
This key interrupts the running of the main spindle and the power
tool. If this happens during a feed movement, the latter must be
stopped first.

Spindle start in counter-clockwise direction

This button resumes the programmed spindle motion in a coun-
ter-clockwise direction. (Viewing direction: to the horizontal spindle
from the machine rear, to the vertical spindle from above)

Spindle start in clockwise direction

This button resumes the programmed spindle motion in a clockwise
direction (standard operating mode).

Feed Stop
This button interrupts a programmed carriage movement in "AUTO-
MATIC" mode.

Feed Start
This button continues a programmed but interrupted carriage move-
ment.
If the main spindle motion was also interrupted, this must be
switched on again first.

Display of the coordinate system

When the button is activated, the axes can be traversed manually
within the swivelled coordinate system.

Switching the machine off

• Press the AUX OFF button.

• Switch master switch off

Notes
• The machine is switched off with the master switch.
• It is recommended that the machine is switched off only
with the tool turret idle.
• Operations can be interrupted with the Reset key.
RESET interrupts all running machine functions.

Safety test (Integrated safety)

When switching on the machine, a safety test will be run automati-
cally to check the safety functions.
While the machine is in operation, this test will be repeated every
24 hours.
For this, 24 hours after the last test, the message "700155 Safety
Integrated Test stop requirement" appears on the screen.
The controller starts the test automatically and this message appears
on the screen:
• "235012 <Location information>TM54F: Test stop active"
After the safety test sequence, the message on the screen is deleted.
If errors occur during the tests, the controller switches off all auxiliary
drives (AUX OFF) and the corresponding error message appears
on screen.

Information:
In automatic mode and when operating the machine with bar
loader as an active program, the safety test is run automatically
after reaching M30 in the program.
After the test, the machine continues the operation; no interven-
tion by the operator is required.
During manual operating modes, keep the enable button pressed
down, until the red Test stop messages have gone out.

Feed setting
The maximum milling performance of the machine
with steel Ck 45 is 48 cm³/min.
The diagram shows the possible cutting depths
and feed rates for different milling cutter diam-
eters.

Example:
D=40 mm, t=6 mm;
Result: F=200 mm/min
The specified values apply to steel Ck 45 and
carbide cutters. With softer or harder materials,

Move axes automatically

Variant 1:
Press desired arrow key in order to start the po-
sitioning movement. The axes move with the set
feed until the button is pressed. Simultaneous
movement of several axes is not possible.

Move axes with the direction buttons

Variant 2 - pre-selection variant:

Move carriage with open machine door
The X and Z axes can be moved with open ma-
chine door.

• Switch key switch to the position "SET-UP"

(manual).

• Select desired axis.

• Now the axis can be moved.

Variant 3:
Press desired direction button and rapid traverse
button in order to start the positioning movement.
The axis moves in rapid traverse as long as both
buttons are pressed.

Variant 4:
Resume the programmed spindle motion in
or a counter-clockwise or clockwise direction.

Press the desired direction button and NC Start

button together and release in order to start the

Tool clamping in milling

spindle
Variant 1:
• Open machine door. Only after the machine
door has been opened, the hydraulic collet (2)
can be opened.
• Hold tool clamping button (1) down until the
tool with the tool holder (4) is removed from the
spindle (1). Insert a new tool.
• Release tool clamping button (1) in order to
1
clamp.
• Close machine doors.
• Acknowledge tool change with NC Start. This
Tool clamping button ends the clamping process.
• Continue workpiece program.

Danger:
• Wear protective shoes. Tools etc. may slip from the hand.
• Wear protective gloves; tools, workpieces and machine parts can be sharp-edged and can become
very hot.
• It is essential to hold the tool holder with your hand when loosening it. This prevents the tool holder
falling out of the milling spindle cone in an uncontrolled way.

Programming and control

Variant 2 Key "Enable Tool Change":

• All axes must stand still

No NC program must be active

• Press "Activate tool" button.

• Command to change tool appears. With this
variant, no changes are made in the active tool
corrections!
• Open machine door. Only after the machine
door has been opened, the hydraulic collet (2)
can be opened.
• Hold tool clamping button (6) down until the
tool with the tool holder (4) is removed from the
spindle (1). Insert a new tool.
• Release tool clamping button (6) in order to
clamp.
• Close machine doors.
• Acknowledge tool change by pressing the ena-
ble button. This ends the clamping process.
• Continue workpiece program.
