Essential Question:
How does human interaction
affect Planet Earth?
How does the Ecological Footprint works
● Measures the ecological assets
required for a given population
to produce natural resources
which it consumes.
● It tracks the use of six
categories which produce
surface areas.
● The biocapacity of a city,
state, or nation represents the
productivity its assets.
Ecological overshoot

Since the 1970’s the world has been in

ecological overshoot. And ecological shoot is
when us humans demand resources from the
earth faster than the earth can regenerate them.
Today we use 1.7 earths to our waste. This
means that it takes 6 months to regenerate the
sources that we use. Some examples are over
fishing, over harvesting forests, and releasing
more carbon dioxide than the atmosphere can
handle.
Overpopulation
● Overpopulation has undergone
into epidemic since mortality
rates decreased, medicines were
improved, industrial farming was
introduced.
● Most of the effects are severe, but
the most severe is the degradation
of the environment.
● If there are not enough trees in
the environment, it may cause an
organism to die.
Ozone depletion
● Without ozones, no human may be
able to walk outside.
● It is made up of three bonded
oxygens which float up to the
stratosphere, absorbing UV
radiation to protect all life on earth.
● Ozone-depleting substances (ODS)
can find their way up the
stratosphere to strip O3 of an
oxygen, partly destroying the UV
light.
Pollution
● 2.4 billion people were
unable to clean the water
sources from pollution.
● Human interactions now
still are causing
pollutions to the
environment.
GMO’s
● Genetically Modified Organism Superweeds are types of weeds that are able to
kill outcrops around farming lands. Turning over

survival of our overpopulating earth. crops. However, the soil can dry a bit early killing

in order to have an advantage.
● Humans have been using glyphosate
to eliminate weed around their
house. However not all weeds can
be affected.
● There are many weeds that can only
resist up to only 22-25 known
herbicides.
Global Warming
● Every year, human increase CO₂
levels consistently around the
world.
● Now, CO₂ levels now are
exceeding 400 PPM.
● The increase to CO₂ emissions
contributes to the average rising
temperature for our planet by
about a degree.
● The increase of temperature
causes the ice to melt and ocean
levels to rise up (currently at
3.42mm per year).
Tragedy of the Commons

It is a term used to describe

a situation in a shared
resource system in which
individual users acting
independently according to
his own interest rather
than for the good of other
people
In Conclusion
Our planet Earth has been affected by human cause issues which
were caused by their human interactions. What we should do to
prevent that from happening is by doing things which relate to
throwing our wastes away, recycling, using alternate sources other
that gas, reducing water, saving electricity, using solar panels, etc.
This concludes to the point that humans should be able to use their
resources wisely, and try to avoid any of the resources that would
lead to issues against our planet such as global warming or
pollution.
