PUNCTUATION

1.CAPITAL LETTER
A capital letter is used for the first letter :
(a) of a sentence.
Example : We walk to school.

(b) after speech marks.


Example : She said, “The baby is cute.”

(c) of all proper nouns.


Example : He is visiting the Kuala Lumpur Tower.

2. FULL STOP
A full stop is used :
(a) at the end of a sentence.
Example : We are in Year Five.

(b) for abbreviations.


Example : My initials are T.A.E.

3. QUESTION MARK
A question mark is used at the end of a question.
Example : How are you today?

4. COMMA
A comma is used to separate items on a list.
Example : My father has a car, a shop, a house and an orchard.

5. EXCLAMATION MARK
An exclamation mark is used :
(a) after an interjection. (b) to show an expression of surprise
Example Help! Help! Example : Oh! What a lovely present!

6. APOSTROPHE
An apostrophe is used :
(a) to show possession. (b) in short forms
Example : This is Encik Awang’s boat. Example : I don’t like to sing.
