The Water Cycle, or hydrologic cycle, is the journey of water from the land to the

sky and from sky to land again.
Some of the rain (precipitation) soaks and filters into the ground.

Plants also lose water to the air (this is called transpiration).


Some of the underground water is between rock and soil; this is called
groundwater.
When the clouds meet cool air, they precipitate (rain, sleet or snow) and water
returns to the land (or sea).
The water gas (vapour) condenses, forming tiny droplets in clouds.
The sun's heat gives energy to take (evaporate) water from the earth's surface
(oceans, lakes, etc.).
But most of the rain water flows downhill as run-off returning to the seas as salty
