CLASS:5/5 B.ARCH
MULTI SPORTS HUB AT AMARAVATI

INTRODUCTION:

Sports, recreation or free time activities are now widely accepted as fundamental
elements of good quality life. They are essential to the mental and physical well being of
humans and in general of any present-day society.

Sports complexes are essentially large theatres of entertainment, which ought to be

pleasant to visit, like a cinema, and at the same time also be social and architectural land
marks in towns and cities. A sports complex is a closely knit well-balanced grouping of
indoor and out-door games facilities offering a wide range of activities on a comparatively
small land area.

The availability and quality of Sports Infrastructure is essential for a country to

achieve success in the global sports arena. The facilities encourage children and young adults
to actively take part in sporting activities and equip them with the skills to succeed and shine
in an international forum. The sporting culture in India has not been impressive in the past
and this scenario can be attributed majorly to lack of good infrastructure, among other
factors. The non-availability of infrastructure poses a major impediment to the development
of sports in the country.

NEED OF THE PROJECT:

Regional Demand for sporting facilities

 As per the Socio-Economic Master Plan for Amaravati, ~300,000–550,000 jobs,

including 105,000–190,000 direct jobs could be generated in the city by Year 10. Each
worker in Amaravati could bring an average of 1.6 additional family members. Given
15–25% retention rate, times a family multiplier of 2.6, estimated population of
Amaravati is by Year 10 is ~350,000–600,000. Experience in other fast-growing cities
also corroborates this.
 Given this estimated population size, and lack of any other existing facility in the core of
Amaravati, the residents would need world class sporting infrastructure. The proposed
facility will provide residents with access to Sport Academies, playing tracks, parks,
jogging tracks, etc. and help accomplish Amaravati’s vision of being one of the
Healthiest cities.
 Out of the estimated population, ~60% would be in the age group that can be actively
involved in sports; i.e., ~175,000-300,000 people. Of this, at least ~20% people would be
able to afford and be interested in facilities such as parks, walking, running, jogging
tracks; thus, the facility would garner annual participation of ~40,000-70,000 people.
 In addition, ~30% of the population would be children in the age group of 5-20, i.e.,
~100,000-180,000 children. Of these, ~5% could potentially be interested and can afford
premium sports academies, and given average training cycles of ~3 months, annual
footfall of ~1,300-2,200 is expected in training academies.

region by harmonizing with surrounding environment.

OBJECTIVES:

o To study and understand modern sports complex and its functions, architecture.
o To design a complex will show the relationship of different sport areas and other
functional elements integrated together.

spectators between venues, Security management Facilities.
o The relationship of indoor and outdoor environment.
o To design and manage pedestrian and vehicular movement.
o The relationship of buildings with public open space.

LIMITATIONS:

o Broad concepts like pre-engineered techniques studied through literature reviews, are not
sufficient to make such proposals. These techniques involve various techno-experts of
different fields. The structural stability of supports, retractable roofing system, floorings,
walls, etc. are not dealt in detail, but will give a structural solution.
o Traffic engineering and management requires physical studies on existing roads but given
data were taken from the local authorities and considered while designing entries and
exits.
o Provisions were made for the services of firefighting, air conditioning within the stadium.
