 Serve as the representative from the World Language Department on the School Improvement Team and
developed staff surveys and questionnaires to collect and analyze data on differentiation and remediation
strategies used by teachers in the classroom and used this data to develop a key process in the School
Improvement Plan (2014 - Present).
 Represented the World Language Department on the Media and Technology committee at Rolesville High
School (2014 – June 2016).
 Presented my undergraduate research Honors Capstone on John Dewey's philosophy of education

Missionary with Cristo para la ciudad, Nicaragua; June – July 2014


 Traveled to Managua, Nicaragua to serve as a missionary with the Hope Schools Program for 4 weeks.
 Toured public and private schools in Managua and Matagalpa, Nicaragua, observing in classrooms and
presenting the gospel in Spanish through a bracelet-making craft with 3 classes of middle and high school
students.
 Observed and mentored a first-year English teacher, providing suggestions to improve lesson plans and
classroom management techniques.
 Initiated a pen-pal program between my Spanish classes in the United States and my English teacher
mentee’s classes in Nicaragua.
 Received, sorted, and packaged used school supplies donated from the United States and uniform
donations and assisted in presenting them to various public and private Nicaraguan schools.
 Assisted in a week-long youth retreat in Matagalpa, Nicaragua with North American and Nicaraguan youth
and participated in team-building activities, Bible study, and translation of a presentation from English to
Spanish.
 Co-led a professional development session on strategies of teaching Spanish as a Second Language and
experiential learning to educators at the Nicaraguan Christian School in Matagalpa, Nicaragua.

Student Teacher at Fuquay-Varina High School, Fuquay-Varina, NC; January – March 2014
 Taught three classes of Spanish 1, creating a variety of activities to practice the language in context and
assessments to demonstrate communicative competence in real-world tasks.
 Researched John Dewey’s philosophy of education applied to foreign language learning, wrote a research
paper, received a research grant from my university, and practiced these principles with creative
communicative assessments.
 Participated in meetings with my Professional Learning Team to discuss ways to support students at all
levels of Spanish in preparation for communicative competence and contributing ideas for activities and
assessments, including a weather forecasting project and a differentiated reading task that I created for
my classes.
 Recorded and reflected on three lessons of a learning segment from the standpoint of Second Language
Acquisition theory and success in the classroom in the form of my edTPA portfolio
Student Teacher at Beijing Royal School, Beijing, China; March – April 2014
 Received a scholarship from the NCSU Study Abroad Office to student teach abroad in China.
 Traveled to China with a group of 9 other education majors and 2 NCSU professors for a 5 week student
teaching experience.
 Worked with a Chinese mentor teacher, observing and reflecting on comparisons and contrasts of
pedagogy and school atmosphere at this private school in Beijing, in relation to my experiences in the
United States.
 Taught TOEFL preparation and Spanish lessons to two classes of 10th graders.
 Assisted in the 1st Annual Beijing Royal School Science Fair, doing science demonstrations.

Spanish Tutor at North Carolina State University; May – December 2011


 Tutored college-level Spanish through Trio Student Support Services during both summer sessions of
2011, varying teaching methods to meet a variety of student needs.
 Served as the Spanish Department’s lower level Spanish tutor ten hours per week from August through
December 2011, assisting many different types of learners to succeed in their Spanish classes.

Leadership Experiences
Summer Camp Counselor, Raleigh Parks and Recreation; May – August 2013
 Worked as a summer camp counselor with Summer Explorers at Ravenscroft.
 Planned and led games and activities with my class of 5 and 6 year olds.
 Supervised and led our group of kids at the pool and on field trips to the bowling alley, museums, skating
rink, Adventure Landing, and parks.

Resident Advisor for the Honors Village, NC State University; August 2012 – May 2013
 Mentored students and built community among students on our hall and in the Honors Village.
 Planned and implemented a variety of community building and academic discussion-based programs,
including election awareness, current events discussions, university transportation options, study abroad
expo, and crafts.
 Served as my staff’s Multicultural Advisor and led activities with staff to raise cultural competence.
 Mediated and resolved conflicts between roommates.
 Won the "RA of the Year" award for the University Honors Village.
