Universal Design for Learning (UDL):

This blog will include audio files for children who have more trouble reading, a transcript of this audio for
those children who have hearing disabilities, and at times it will even include videos for my visual learners.
The blog is very user friendly and supports students of all kinds.

Lesson idea implementation:

In this project, the student will be asked to complete an assignment that is posted on the teacher blog for
homework. The teacher must create an audio file for the students to listen to that includes the assignment
that the students are to complete, as well of a transcript of this audio for those students with hearing
disabilities. Students will go on the blog and listen to the audio and complete the assignment listed.

This assignment should take no more than one night to complete. The assignment will be reviewed in class
the next day. This assignment will give students a little bit of a different view on assignments as they will get
to hear the teacher’s voice asking them to complete the assignment. It also allows for technology to be
extended beyond the classroom as the student will complete this assignment at home. Another thing that
using this does is it informs the parents of the assignment that needs to be completed. Feedback will be
provided in class the next day as we go over the problem. Another option would be to allow the students to
post on the blog with their answers and they could review their answers with their peers.

Importance of technology:
This is critical because it allows students to get their information directly from the teacher at home. This way
they will not forget what their assignment was because they can listen to the assignment on the blog and
read the assignment. They can also collaborate on the blog with the assignment and compare answers with
each other, leading to higher order thinking and higher LoTi levels.

Internet Safety and Student Privacy:

Students may have some internet safety issues with posting on the blog because some personal information
could be leaked without careful use of the internet. I would ensure that children’s profiles on my blog would
include first names only and no pictures of the children. Parents would also be required to sign a form
allowing their student to use the internet in this way in the classroom and at home. I would be sure to go over
all of the internet safety policies with both students and parents before assigning this to the class.

Reflective Practice:
I think that this assignment would be a great way to introduce counting money. I would like to see how much
the students can figure out on their own before we began that unit. This lesson would be further extended as
we would start going over this information in class, as well as using these kinds of blog assignments
throughout the semester.
