THE HISTORY OF

THE FIVE GREAT KINGDOMS

The free nation of Varois (var-wa) is one that every person could ever dream of. It was
deemed to be the biggest nation to have ever existed. Its southern part was filled of all the
precious stones worth of thousands and thousands of gold. They say its riches were beyond
what mathematics could do. In the northern land, with its massive and beautiful grounds, were
where the nation’s Great Palace was built and where the great houses of lords and noblemen
stood. Everyone that’s someone lived there in the happiest and humblest ways. The lands in the
east of Varois had the most fertile land a farmer could till and so they always have the greatest
harvests of grains and other needed food for every year. The western lands of Varois are where
its armies are located. They never had the biggest armies because its soldiers were only
volunteers. The Leaders then never signed a decree for enlisting. After all, Varois is a peaceful
and free nation. They have no need to conquer and this knowledge alone made them safe from
other conqueror nations. Leaders, commoners and slaves lived in a nation where no boundaries
could hinder the way they bond with each other. The life in Varois was a life in sweet harmony.
All these started, happened and continued by its Great Leaders. From William I, II, III up to its
last great leader, William VII.

Chaos rose in pandemonium when the only son of the late William VII - William VIII - had
a daughter for an heir with an undesirable mark on her face. William VIII went mad and
questioned the stability of Varois to come. A Leader is not a leader if his heir is useless and ugly.
He turned the free nation of Varois into a kingdom and named himself a King for a true leader is
a King and not just to be called a Leader. He was called King William VIII, First King of Varois
Lands. He turned the Great Place into the Varois Palace and changed the nation’s Leaders to
Royals. He commanded the beheading of his wife, the reigning queen, whom he accused of
bedding a servant boy which resulted to an undesirable child and he married a lowborn girl of
great beauty, the Antoinette of House Silcon. He produced sons and daughters with the Queen
Antoinette. But his greed of power grew even more that years after, he started selling and
sending off his daughters to nations outside the Varois Lands. He made the law that as sons
would be the heirs to crowns, thrones and estates; the daughters would be sent off for
marriages that are arranged for them by their parents and blessed by the King to further their
alliances and expand the nation’s lands. He also thickened the line between the royals and the
peasants.
Years after, King William VIII declared wars and claims to lands outside the Varois’s
reach. He conquered other nations and named it as parts of Varois Lands. Not long after, the
Varois was threatened by other nations and its lands became its battlefield. Year after year,
bloods were spilled, houses were burned and the once peaceful and free nation of Varois was
turned like hell on earth. This endless war and its battlefield were called the “Bloody Lands”.
Finally, noblemen and great lords planned a coup de main to overthrow King William VIII from
his throne putting an end to his mad regency. But before they could put his son, King Heron I, on
the throne and decided that the free nation of Varois is no longer the free nation it had once
been.

Varois Lands and its lands were out of control and chaos reigned on its grounds. King
Heron I, with the help of the noblemen and great lords who had overthrown his father from the
throne, decided that Varois Lands can no longer be ruled by one leader alone. Its lands were
bigger after years and years of conquering outside lands. To ease the tension on its grounds,
King Heron I decided that Varois Lands should be divided into separate kingdoms to be lead by
different Kings who would still be each land’s ally. Varois Lands was divided into five; the east
lands where great harvests come from was called the Myriana; the southern land was called by
its rich history, the Seven Stones; the northern lands remained to have the biggest part of the
lands and its beautiful grounds where the great houses and the Varois Palace stood still is no
longer called Varois but, the Illyria; the majority of the lands in the west where the armies reside
and where great destructions took place was named Riverhills; then the remaining lands in the
west of Varois Lands where violence had miraculously not reached, was named Flaurinland after
the House of Flaurins whose men had protected the lands until their last breath to keep their
families safe.

The Five Great Kingdoms: Myriana, Seven Stones, Illyria, Riverhills and Flaurinland tried
to bring back peace in its own lands. It took generations for it to succeed and then at some point
it did. But once a man takes hold of power, its greatness blinds one and it makes them greed for
more. Allies lost its purpose and the five kingdoms became independent ones rather than what
it was supposed to be. Since then, good Royals and bad Royals were born generation after
generation. The good Royals were driven to bring back the Varois Lands back together again as
one to begin another melodious bond with its people. But the bad Royals, those who seek power
and riches, wanted this too but for their own purpose –to make everyone else bow down to
them so no one would ever dare to dream of overthrowing them.
